Never thought about a cat being a medical alert animal, but it makes sense. Cats are very attuned to situations. Beautiful weaving job and great adaptation for a warp board. 😊
@@HawksongWeaving You really have a knack for taking the varied types and colors of yarn you collect and making them into a cohesive whole. Just donated my little bit to your guild. When your guild is ready to accept items, I'd like to go through my yarn stash and send you what I find. I don't have as much as I would have 3 years ago because that's when we downsized and moved to a much smaller place, but I'm sure I'll have some nice yarn to donate (I only kept the nicest yarns when we moved). I also have a bunch of thick crochet (macrame-ish) yarn I bought to crochet baskets. I probably won't be doing that again -- would your guild be interested in that? It's cotton & synthetic fibers. Let us know where we can send yarn (or other supply) donations!
Beautiful! I personally loved the purple light show. It did not distract from the weaving and added a beautiful ambience. I love the fact that you’re able to create beautiful things out of other peoples throwaways. Happy, weaving, and Merry Christmas 🎄
I just subscribed, and then started watching the video. I finally found another weaver with POTS. Who understands what I'm going through! It was because of pots that I stopped weaving, even though I truly enjoyed it. The constant up and down and flare ups make it impossible to weave traditionally. The set up you have as your warping board is genius!!!! Do you have an instructional video on how you set it up and wrap with it? I am so going to use the same setup. I am so excited to get weaving again!!!!
Check out the Disability Adaptive Tutorials Playlist! I hope you have success with this! Also not a sponsor, but Klaralyte is the sodium/electrolyte supplement that I've found works the best and is the most affordable, so I genuinely recommend them to everyone with POTS. I usually bring extra to art markets because the venn diagram of disabled and artists in my area seems like a circle sometimes.
I have pure autonomic failure so I understand your issues and love this warping method your using. I’ve not woven anything due to the thought of warping up so thank you for sharing ❤
This is the first video of yours that the algorithm recommended to me. I am an autistic/ADHD person near MA with a love for fiber arts (mainly knitting and crochet, but looking to branch out and try more fiber arts), and I wanted to say thank you for introducing me to the Mill River Marginalized Artist Collective! I will definitely be checking you guys out when I can, and give weaving a go when I have the time!
Totally get why the the person sending you the yarn bought the scarf! They knew the yarn, and the scarf is absolutely lovely! Lots of love from Denmark 🤗
Desk looks very good and it’s beautifully lit. Thank you for encouraging me to get my loom out. I’m just playing at the moment using my stash to see what I can make. The scarf looks lovely xx
Simple tip for checking that copper thread. Take a tiny bit of the copper thread and burn it. Place it on a fireproof surface and put a flame to it (a lighter works best). If it’s plastic, it will melt, ball up and smell like burnt plastic. Metal thread will curl and melt at a higher temperature, if at all.
Watching you work with your hands has a very ASMR feel to it. I do hand quilting and I crochet with thrifted tarn, get thee behind me I do not need another hobby! lol Best wishes from a Canadian.
Absolutely beautiful, and your description of the yarn and your weaving process is wonderful. Just curious, would you be open to doing a video about the loom itself why you chose it over other designs and widths, and why certain reeds work better than others for patterns? I know you've discussed some about the floor loom you got this year, but I don't think I've heard you talk much about this one other some basic anatomy of the loom itself.
Absolutely! The short answer right now: The 15 inch Schacht Cricket loom I use in my videos was the cheapest table loom I could find because my partner was purchasing it for me at a time I had very low self worth. I've made things work with this loom, but it's not ideal for fancier weaving. But I can absolutely get going on that video!
My first thought on seeing the words purple and copper was omg, it's another Tamora Pierce weaving, because those are Alanna's colours! 😹 Also, if the LEDs give you joy, then that's what matters the most. =^.^=I have a weaving of my own on the go that I haven't touched in months because the edges are not exactly neat. XD I'm even thinking of taking it apart and starting fresh on it.
Sorry, i cant rembr names of each piece of machine...i'll call em what i see they do... I noticed da yarn she pulled thru on spool(??)was kinda left at an angle before pulling down tighener... Is there a reason for doing it that way? Versus having entire yarn piece closer 2 rest of already made scarf?? I think weaving is very interesting & i'd love 2 give it a go. I've not seen a lap size one before, so this is super great news knowing its out there jus waiting! Im a current crochter but i also learned 2 knit as a teen. When i started, i got variety of yarns donated too. It was some gorgeous left over balls/skeins...that i'd not have been able 2 afford otherwise. Growing up we called our mom a hippie & we always had some kind of artsy stuff around da house. Maybe im jus wanting stuff like it around me now, as a comforting tool, as i so miss her. Anywho, thanks for sharing ur craft! I love colors in scarf...purple is my fav Edit: 22:08 can anyone tell me what she's doing here? Thx in advance
I'm having a hard time seeing the copper but I love the purples! The music did get repetitive, so I would prefer something with a bit more variation for future videos. It was so nice to watch you weave; I've done it once and it was so fun. Right now I'm trying to figure out what to make with a soft skein of autumn-y yarn.
Really nice work and those yarns are a beautiful combination. I'm a newcomer to weaving, what kind of loom are you using? Would you say its beginner friendly? Thank you!
I'm using a Schacht Cricket Loom, the 15 inch wide model. It's very beginner friendly, light enough to lift easily, but sturdy enough to survive landing when you underestimate how fatigued you are.
Another lovely piece, I'm so glad I found you. Is mass-market (RedHeart style) acrylic yarn something to donate to MRMAC (I love the logo btw)? And if so, to what address? All the best from a fellow fiber artist from NJ.
How are you healing from your surgery? And how has mobility (upper body) changed for you? Weaving and other needlework is so much less pressure prone early disrupted since the revision of dog ears, which the doctor told me was inevitable in body types like ours. Now only my numbing of the hands due to the instability of my neck needs to be dealt with. It is still being in un (self-)diagnosed EDS land state for me, and my physio and me need to keep working on getting as much muscle support as possible for the joints. I am so glad, you are talking about how little is enough to subluxate finger joints. I even dislocated while packing my sleeping bag back into the pack sack. And a toe got stuck in the seam of my jeans while getting dressed.
I'm all healed up, the scars are slowly subsiding and stretching, which I'm glad about as I plan to incorporate them into a chest tattoo (there's a tumblr post about how to say "I hate you, you moron" in Victorian flower language, I'm getting those and some poisonous mushrooms growing out of the scars). I did get smaller dog ears in the front, and larger ones on the sides, but I honestly find it amusing as it reminds me of when you tug too hard when darning jersey knit fabric and it gets all bunched up.
I was going to ask you if you have hEDS. I do too but it hasn’t moved into POTS. Best wishes to you fellow zebra, be as well as you can and find joy where it happens. Please check out Opus Elenae, she does Medieval clothing and other artwork. Big supporter of marginalized communities. I can see how a nice collab could be in the future. Your work is beautiful and I hope your channel prospers. Subscribed.

That was beautifully crafted.
I loved the way you ended it with all the shots of the cloth you wove -- the richness of the colors and the classic beauty of plain weave.
I love tying the warp back into the weft. It feels right, and I get such unique squares of color each time.

Hahahahahaha... your comment about being paid to be told you aren't disabled. Oh my gosh... that made my night. And that is also why I'm subscribing
