This week features tips and tricks to restoring a Honda CR500r.
So another worthwhile project hits the screen. No less the beast, a 'Man bike', Cancelled in the name of safety, What ever you want to call it. This is the last un-restricted crazy idea from Honda to produce a bike you simply can't use to it's full potential. Dull 4 stroke restricted racing still sees the CR500 2 stroke competing and winning in many unrestricted races after 30+ years of so-called- development. I want one. I want it in a glass case just to know I have something that belongs to another age.
Lets see if it is up to the hype..

Jaco pastorus in the background I think 🤔 how bloody marvellous!!
Isn’t it sad that we are the music freeks 🙄
@MyRestoration1 Music is in my blood . I have classic fm on period but love the Steely Dan / Jazz grooves you kick out every now and then . Quality machine restoration demands quality music anyway 👌
@@bluesplayer59I was playing the group Yellow Jackets btw but of course Jaco gets too spot on bass. Check out ‘4am’ by Herbie Hancock. Turn it up..possibly my fav J session..
Excited to see you getting into electroplating parts! Thats going to give you a lot more options for restoring hardware on future projects.
That's the plan!
I love this project SO MUCH! It is moving along at a great pace, well done man!
Thanks 🙏 . Yes it’s a real time pace setter for me. Hopefully done this November if all goes well 😅
FIRST
I’m in need of a kick start lever for my 1987 cr 500
You will notice mine is an 88. Could not find an OEM. Try JCracing uk based. He has a replacement one which I think is in the video. It wasn’t better then what I had so sent it back. Quite acceptable if you are stuck
Where did you get the wheels? i am in need of a set
Good luck! The rear rim I picked up in California from the same guy I got the tank from. I have a front. Pm me to contact him if he has bits. I’m looking for the engine head hangers…
@MyRestoration1 ok I think there is a place in Oregon that has rims that are close. I will have to go with them.
@@TNTMOTO perfect 👍
The original rims for these were not DID but actually Tagasako rims
Really? I’ve only ever seen DID pale gold for the 87. Can’t speak for the other models. I’ll look into this. Thanks for chipping it 👍
My all original 87 CR500 has DID rims. @@MyRestoration1
Should be did rims
I like your films but I'm unsubscribing from all the channels I follow due to UA-cam's incoming adblocker policy. I don't want to be tracked and I don't want malware delivered via ads.
Thanks for the heads up..I do it for the enjoyment so check on every now and again your hits still help the channel..
I don't mean to disadvantage the content makers but I feel pretty strongly about it. I hope YT sees sense. I can't avoid the ads on my smart TV but I don't mind that, as I can't be at risk on the tv but would rather not have them on my laptop. I'm hoping some kind of collective message gets back to YT but I'm not sure they'll care!
What ads?
@@TimH123 😂
Mate of mine did the Desert 1000 (500km x 2 days) back in the 80's on one of these. Thing was insane, I rode it a bit and it might well just have been a unicycle cos that front wheel did not want to be anywhere else but up in the air in any gear. Vasbyt !!!!
I raced a stock 84 500r, and it was a brute..Honda makes some long lasting fun bikes..💪🤠
Great workshop practice as usual!
Looking great so far!
We had our atc 250r tank hydro dipped and it came out like your rear fender it was incredible. When we sent it out it was sanded down to 1500 grit
Hydro dipped..That’s paint right?
You said super super lucky re rims but never explained
I’ll explain in the next video 👍
Lovely work indeed!
Thank you! Cheers!
Always a pleasure seeing a new episode in my feed, great work. May I ask the name of the silica based epoxy that you used? Cheers
It’s home made. West systems with a west systems filler and bond powder 50/50 mix. It goes like butter. I didn’t use silica sand in the end as I felt it would sheer under pressure. Let’s see..
