Taking Boards to my E-Waste Buyer

  • Took in a good haul of motherboards, hard drives and other stuff to my buyer today to clear out 3-4 months of board accumulation.
Ended up having 548 kg's of motherboards, 686 kg hard drives and a good pile of mid grade boards that added up to quite a good earn, although I do buy motherboards so it's certainly not all profit.
Now to set up my space with cages and reduce how many times I need to handle commodities.

You just sold enough to make some U.S. recycling companies jealous!
I'm talking about some of the ones that move 20 to 30 tons of steel per hour.
Because it's so new to them, most just have 2 grades of boards, low and high, that's it.
    I won't sell, I depopulate everything!!!

You got the right attitude. If you do it for money its not allways worth it. But if you do it as a hobby anything you get is a bonus!! Keep on hoarding. Or as you say...Strategic Stockpiling!

I picked up three units at almost 3000 lbs each payed $550 for all three plus plus $430 for trans made over $3200 in Scrap. $550 for the cables I sold to one of my customers. I still have very high grade boards in my collection.

What do you do about the hard drives possible having illegal info on them and them being in your possession. It has been something that has kept me from scrapping computers.

Well it would be do-able but very tough. There is one main company that collects all electronic scrap and has most of the contracts to collect the scrap. It would need a big outlay including vans and scrap cages where people would deposit the waste, and a company official set-up to do. The other problem is volume as Sweden people don't understand about the value of electronic scrap so you would need to educate them also. Having said that I have been tempted to try :)

I've been servicing regular clients but have slowed down advertising for new customers.
I'm getting as much scrap as I want to handle so it's been good, but unless I got a factory and staff, I wouldn't be able to keep up as 4 years of going hard starts to creep up on the old back.

    • @ernestpetzrick7741

The business seems so destructive, all about making some money, nothing compared to the money made using a brain to create and make the stuff being thrown away. If only their were some videos teaching how you could be more constructive with it, all that stuff was millions worth of technology and it will be turned into a few hundred quid for an individual.
