  • It does not take a genius to replace a car's wiper blade. Even if you don't know how to change your engine oil, you may be able to replace the wiper blades because it is easier. In fact anyone can do it and it does not take time at all. The only questions you may have are: How likely is it that I will damage something? If it is so easy to replace the wiper blade, how is the blade held on so that it does not come off when in normal operation?
    Since your wiper blade may be different than those on your friends' cars, the more variety of the design the less confidence you have because it can be confusing to even talk about it.
    In this video, we examine 9 different cars, Japanese made, American cars and European designs. Once you learn the principles through these examples, even if it is something you have never seen before, you can figure it out easily.

      yes, by design the wipers are very tightly fastened, thus it is better to watch the video carefully and understand how it works the first time you DIY. The second time will be much faster. Thank you for taking the time to share your precise time spent, your comments will help other viewers.

    Extremely well organized and concise. That was a lot of work to research and produce.
    If you want to expand it a little bit, you could help me out and discuss the bayonet mounts on Mini Coopers (2013). They are very hard to source.

    • @GeniusAsian
      @GeniusAsian  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you for taking the time to contribute to this topic, this will also help others. When you say "They are very hard to source" , did you mean it is hard to find the proper part for replacing? Or is it about removal or installation? I like bayonet type because it is very easy to install, you will hear a click sound once it is latched in. However it may not be easy to remove for the first time because you don't know which direction you should pull. Since bayonet is not "hook" type, so you don't have to pull the opposite direction first. Hope this helps.

    Tip: Buy silicone blades online. They can last years if you keep your windshield clean. Use RainX windshield fluid. The thin shield of film it leaves on each use reduces friction on the blade. Brick and mortar stores sell rubber blades because they wear out quicker. Extreme low and high temperatures ruin rubber blades. Silicone blades aren't affected by these temperatures. Silicone blades can cost double the rubber blades but you will change them much less often.

    Good video, but you just glossed over the pin type connection and in particular how to remove the blade from the arm. I'm working on an 85 chevy chevette. I see the pin but don't know how to disconnect it? Your answer appreciated. Thank you.

    • @GeniusAsian
      @GeniusAsian  3 роки тому

      does it have a latch or a button that locks the pin? You need first to lift the latch. If it does not have a latch, you need to rotate the blade 90 degree. Another type that does not have a latch, you just need to pry it off with a flat screw driver, the pin could be quite tight, you may have to wiggle a little bit.

    Excellent instructions! You, unlike so many instructors, understand this concept: it's not "easy" until you've done it....and you can't do it unless you know how the parts disconnect and then re-connect. You are A+ teachers!

    • @GeniusAsian
      @GeniusAsian  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you for taking the time to explain why you liked our video. Some people just prefer step 1,2,3 without explanation, I noticed that when I add explanation the video become longer thus youtube does not rank the video well, that maybe why creators don't do it and also that is why I am very glad that someone like you can appreciate this. I agree with you "understand this concept" is very important, another benefit is that once you understand it you will never forget, for example for many years I did not have the confidence and forget how to do it: ua-cam.com/video/No-rx8hjDZY/v-deo.html

    I have a 9x3 J hook and trying to install a wiper from the dealer on a 2011 Subaru Forester XT. I really appreciate the detailed instructions as I am sure the video took some time to put together. I don't think your video shows a connector similar to this one. Subaru part number SOA591U424. I am having a heck of a time figuring out how it works. The instructions in the packaging make it look like is the kind that you pop the hinge, slide on the J hook and snap the cover back in but the instructions do not match the wiper itself. Very frustrating. The plastic piece pivots but it does not come out very much. If you push and pivot the hinge it simply presses against the blade on the other side and the plastic piece pops out. It looks like it might have a tab but it is very hard to get your finger in there. I guess it is possible that Subaru of Dayton sold the wrong blade to the person who picked it up for me. As I type this maybe I will double check part compatibility. The blade was $14 but it is the first replacement I have ever had on the car since 2011 so I am willing to pay extra if it lasts 10 years!

    • @GeniusAsian
      @GeniusAsian  3 роки тому

      wiper blades wear out when in hot summer, dry winter, sunlight, freezing temperature. So it is the failure of rubber fillers rather than the frame. Many wiper blade manufacturers share the same rubber filler suppliers. I got cheap wiper blades from home depot, they are still working. In the video I showed some extra parts that came with the package, those extra parts were not used, they pack those parts to fit different car model/makes. They do this to have higher volume purchase, higher volume means lower overall prices.

    steel is softer than glass. you can not scratch glass with steel. however, the soft rubber blade DOES scratch the glass. this is because, when you drive, there is inevitably sand dust in the air. SiO2 is very hard material, it gets stuck on the wipers, and as the wipers move, they scratch the galss surface, and produce the well known rainbows on the glass surface. i always wipe off my rubber blades frequently sometimes.

    I prefer to use something like a mousepad underneath the bare wiper arm instead of a cloth. we use them at advance auto parts (although they're bigger as they're made for wiper replacements, but they're pretty much just big ass mousepads) and they not only grip better but if you lose grip of the wiper arm and it snaps back down and smacks the windshield, you won't be left with a chipped, cracked, or smashed windshield.
