I recorded five nights of Carmen to produce this recording. Every note was of this quality or better. Count me among those who believe her best recordings were those done live, and I'm very proud to have produced this series of three CDs.
Oh, how we live this earthy sound coming from her soul. Never copying anyone. Just finding a different approach to the songs. Ella, Sassy, Anita, Dinah didn't leave much room, but Carmen found it through sheer talent, intelligence and creativity. Sooo great to listen to her!
Carmen is a treasure. My wife and I have seen here many times. the greatest lounge singer ever. A great piano player. Carmen wrote some songs for Billie Holiday.
I love this lady. I know a personal friend of hers. And Ms. Carmen would come to visit her. Sometimes she would stay a couple of days or a week. She was so cool. I miss my friend who was famous herself. But that is a comment for another time. R.I.P. Ms. Carmen McRae. And my friend Mrs. Irene Ketchings.
Sounds like a great collection. We never missed a live session with Carmen. Whether she performed at The Jazz Workshop in Boston or Sandy’s Jazz Revival in Beverly.
Fearless and with such great "Panache"! I loved listening to her recording of this song in the '70s, but this version is to die for. "The Singer's Singer" for sure. TXS

Live great, but check out the recording "The Very Thought Of You". Then you'll change your mind.

She is so smashing. Outside of Dusty, she is the only one who does justice to this sexy song.
And who's the pianist he's crazy good.....it's hard to accompany a singer when there narrating a story. All the musicians are smokin'
Thank you for speaking my thoughts. Carmen, stylist extraordinaire. I had the pleasure of seeing her in person. A life pleasure.
