Oh my gosh....just did this about two hours ago and my 2004 Odyssey is being very quiet and not waking up the neighbors! Hallelujah! Now I can run errands and lock the van again. Huge victory!!! Thank you so much for the video!
Thank you! I thought it was the neighbor's car going off all night from the direction of the sound from the back of my house. They just let it go. In the a.m. it went off again, and lo and behold it was coming from my driveway!! I unlocked the van, and thought that would fix- but it went off again in a half hour. I ran to UA-cam, and found your video. I hope this does the trick! I owe the neighbors, big time. Thanks again!
Thank GOD for you!!! Just went to fuel up the minivan for a trip tomorrow and lo and behold the alarm goes off right after I fill the tank!!! YES CARSEATS AND ALL!!!! Thank GOD for wifi & UA-cam!!!! I was able to turn off the alarm before returning to the apartments and waking the managers that live right across the stairs from us and our parking spots!!!! You are SO MY HERO FOR THE MINUTE!!! Hopefully the princesses will still be asleep when I get home at 2am!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
GREAT VIDEO!! You saved my butt at 1:30AM when my Odyssey's alarm decided to go off in the hotel parking lot. I spent over 30 minutes trying to clear the problem by resetting the alarm, opening/closing all the doors & hood, and driving around in hopes that maybe something got wet and driving would dry it out...a;; those things did nothing. So I did a Google search and found this video which showed me exactly what to do. THANK YOU!!!!!!
@poppoo78 The thing to do is eliminate ONE suspect at a time (not necessarily permanently) till you find which one is causing the problem. Some times it's the side door contacts being corroded so the door thinks it's open etc. due to changes in humidity and temperature.
Great video for a too-common problem. On my 2013 Odyssey you don't need to remove the plastic cover, or need any tools at all. Popped the hood, found the connector, and unplugged it. 30 seconds work for a lifetime of peace and quiet.
Our neighbor called us while we were on vacation letting us know are alarm was going off. We will definitely disconnect the sensor when we return. Your video was humorous as well as helpful.
Anything is possible. You're welcome! Another common culprit is corrosion on the sliding door contacts making connection intermittently as humidity changes.
Well, today is July 14th 2024 and this video saved me a ton of headaches! Daughters have vehicles and I let them park in the garage and I’ve been parking my 2016 Odyssey outside for a few months. Recently this has started doing this and I didn’t know why. It’s even easier to locate and unplug as the plug is pretty much park of the hood latch and you don’t even need to unclip it from the structure. Just look at the latch and it’s right there. Pinch and remove. Thank you so much. Now my neighbors can put down the pitchforks and snuff the torches and we all can get some sleep.
Thanks to guys like you that we, amateurs, can resolve little problems like these, that create such disturbance. Especially on cold Canadian nights. Keep posting these solutions. Really Appreciated.
Your video is awesome! I couldn't get the housing off, but I am a small enough lady that I could lean over and reach in, trace the cord back and pull the plug. If I pulled the wrong one and my alarm goes off again I may just set the whole van on fire. It's 1am, day 4 after snowzilla...way too cold out for this kind of tomfoolery!
This is a great video with more than its described purpose. I want to diagnose a parasitic draw on my '08 EX-L Ody and needed to "arm" the car to get it to fully shut down for the diagnosis. Once I found that sensor and unhooked it, the van honked when I locked it with the hood still up making it ready to go to sleep for the parasitic draw testing.
Great video, and great humor. It's 11 pm and I'm just had the same problem with my Accord. Neighbours were already outside before I was wondering what was going on. This video makes me suspect the hood switch. I'll dig into tommorow it. I pulled the horn fuse in the meantime to keep it from making a huge racket again tonight.
This video was very helpful. I recently gave my co-worker a jump when it was raining. A week late as it rain in Florida like crazy my alarm kept going off in my Honda Pilot. I took it to the Honda dealer to run a diagnosis and was told I needed to purchase a new key to reset the alarm. It didn't make sense to me but this video does. It was the condensation from the water and temperature change at night.
Wow, thank you so much for making this video. Hadn't run my 2002 Odyssey for a while and the battery was dead. Jumped it and the alarm kept going off. On the 2002 getting at the connector was even easier than your video. Disconnected it, problem gone. What was the high end mommy van 20 years ago is now dad's outdoor RV/truck. 269K and still rolling. Just need to go get a new battery now (LOL). Better than a new vehicle. Thanks again.
14yrs later JUST NOW still helping us, TY! Soo It's 4:47AM 🙄 lol Staying overnight, at a friend's house. (So embarrassing 😕) Horn started about 45m ago.(4:02a). Went off for 3rd time about 27min (4:30) ago so finally went out and opened drives door and then shut it -unlocked-, disarming system. Immediately came in to search and found ur vid. -Will update soon. Thx again ! (Sign off 5:02am)
Thanks this problem was not only going off in the middle of the night but it was also draining my battery to the point were i had to replace it. YOUR THE MAN!!!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video and making owners of Honda Odysseys with dysfunctional alarm systems a lot happier and well rested without the van alarm waking them . :-)
Hello.. Now I have done as in the video but the next day the alarm went off for no reason once more.. To shut it up I removed the horn fuse. I repeat the step's and still had the horn till I placed the key in the driver's door then it was quiet.. No here is a question for you.. I sleep in my van for I deliver peoples packages. HOW do I disable the alarm with out the remote??
Its 3:30am in NJ. After the third time that My 2002 Honda Odyssey alarm went off, I got up and go infront my computer and searched. Thanks to you and now I can go back to sleep not worrying for the alarm to go off again....zzzzzzz
Great video, saved my day. I had exact same problem with 07 CRV, alarm was going off for no reason. After I watched this video, I find out the hood switch for security system was the culprit. Instead of disconnecting the switch, I cleaned it up. I am hoping it fixed the problem. If it happens again I am going to just disconnect it as suggested by the video. Honda should improve the quality of the switch.
You just save an Odyssey from a sledgehammer! Couldn't get it to stop and in the middle of the night my neighbors were willing to help! I and my neighbors thank you!
Brian, Great job on the description for the fix (and the hilarious yet timely stop on the breaking and entering instructions). Just to add to the list of possible causes: 1-Had my tranny changed 2-The latch mechanism was handled, lubed and put back in order to install the new cooler 3-The air temp dropped from 70s to 40s in one day 3-The alarm started going off that night at the shop (draining the battery) Got it home and after a few annoying sessions and your video, its fixed. Thanks, Andy
Finally a fix to that! Ive been having to park my Odyssey outside and I have to leave the hood open so it won't go off but I'm always worried someone is going to mess with it or steal the battery. Thank you sir!!!
You know how much thanks you get for this, man... it is directly proportional to how loud and insane it is to have your head under the hood trying to figure out what is wrong. If stress is indeed a killer, I'd say a little more than 30k views has saved at least a life or two. Cheers.
Gary Joliet,IL The instructions were perfect. I did in less than 5 minutes. I think the fix will work because the lights didn't flash and the horn didn't sound after pushing the lock remote (twice for the horn). After unplugging the hood lock switch, the lights flashed and the horn sounded just like the car used to. Thanks
Thank you. Yesterday I disconnected what I thought was the hood latch. It was the fan heater switch. whoops. The hook latch connector is in fact connected via a white push connector under the metal as described in the 2001 Oddessy I just popped it loose, used the screw driver to pull apart the connections and viola. no more random hood latch car alarm sounds. Thank you !
Is the sensor in a similar place on a 2010 Honda Odyssey? Also, the interior lights cycle on and off on rainy nights. Probably a door sensor instead right? How do I just silence the alarm so that even if there are bad sensors the alarm won't go off?
Hi there, I just wanted to express my thanks to you for detailing how to fix this particular problem. My 2002 Odyssey's alarm had been going off the last few nights (probably from it getting cold outside, is my guess). I was able to follow your instructions, and I have disconnected the defective switch, and hopefully this will solve the problem. I did break the little plastic connector while try to get it apart, but it's not like it ever needs to go back together, right? Thanks again!
This video really helped me. Everyone in the neighborhood will appreciate this. Only thing, on my 2004 Odyssey, I didn't need to remove the black cover. After I took it off, I realized that it was not preventing me at all from removing the wire clip. Had I originally known that, this would have only taken 2 minutes to do.
Today marks a strange occurence in life where I actually think about and proactively take care of something before it becomes a terrible and/or embarrassing experience. Thank you sir and I bid you a farewell!
This is extremely helpful. I have a 2002 Honda Accord and it's the same issue. Alarm just goes off randomly, USUALLY at night. I got tired of it and disconnected my battery when I got home from work. Other sites say a low/bad battery can also be the cause, so make sure to eliminate other possible causes. I had my battery tested and it had bad cells. I replaced it and 30 seconds after replacing it (literally, I'm not making this up), the alarm went off. This weekend, that sensor is coming apart! BTW, that Odyssey horn sounds EXACTLY the same as my Accord, haha.
Thanks Brian, After looking for the switch under the hood (The 2008 Odyssey does not have the hood switch, at least not one that I could find) I finally disconnected the horns to stop the noise and the staring from passers by. A cop drove by looked at me ad kept going. I guess he wasn't concerned that I might be stealing it. Ultimately I pulled the 5 fuses that the remote start/key-less entry has and that stopped the nuisance. The factory key-less entry works fine. Thanks
Thanks so much alarm was going off every few minutes around 2 to 3 in the morning. Thank god we saw this post and it worked. Thanks for taking the time to post this.
The alarm on our Toyota Avalon 2006 went off the first time ever at 5 AM. I shut it off with the button on my remote. What would be your educated thoughts on this? It has been around zero to 30 degrees F. No unusual moisture. Once no foul?? Thanks.
Thanks Brian! That's quite a BRAIN. Very thorough on mechanical and easy instruction to fix. My Odyssey has been acting up, bet the neighbors were wondering that the F*** is with this van.
Thank you very much! Your video helped me save time in troubleshooting and pinpointing the same problem with my 2008 Civic Sedan with 90K miles. I disconnected switch, unscrewed 3 10mm bolts, detached release cable and large spring. Soaked entire assembly in environmentally friendly "green" paint thinner I bought from Walmart. Rinsed under kitchen sink and used an old toothbrush to manually scrub the nooks and crannies clean of greasy gunk. I paid special attention to the switch assembly. Air dried, reattached, and tested. No problems! Should be good for another 90K miles.
Brian, Thanks for posting your video. The alarm on our 08 odyssey has been getting finicky to the point that the key remote won't turn it off and even unlocking and locking the drivers door with the actual key doesn't stop it. I am going to take a look at the hood switch and try disabling that. My other concern is that some how the remote start we had installed a couple years ago may be causing this? Thanks! Matt
thanks bro!. I just started having this issue on my 2011 honda CR-V. It was raining hard the day before. I didn't know what to do, so i disconnected the battery. Like you said, it happens around early morning 4am-5am. At first, i thought someone had tried to break into my car. I've disconnected the connector and now i can get a good night's sleep finally.
On "either side" of the tailgate door or on the latch it connects to at the base of the rear of the back area in the vehicle? I did remove two screws on either side of the gizmo on the tailgate door, but that did not give me access to much. Could you please specify where the bolts are? FYI, I used auto grease to lubricate the tailgates door latch and have not had the dummy light appear or the alarm go off, but I'd still like to pursue disconnecting the alarm at the tailgate. Thanks so much!
Have an 02 Odyssey and this worked great!!! On an 02 you don't even need to remove the plastic cover. Just pop fastener as shown in the video and unclip the connector.
Thanks so much for the tip in the parking garage for a doctor's appointment and it went off my waiting on you appointment we get to find out how thanks millions
I've just tried this on my Honda CRV 2007, which has been going off like crazy for no reason randomly.... i hope it works cause i'm so tired of running downstairs late at night to turn the thing off constantly! If i'm right, the wired were pretty much on view when i opened the bonnet, so i hope i've pulled the right plug! Will keep you updated! FINGERS CROSSED!
It just happened to me last night. Neighbors are pissed. Thanks for the video. I will replace the latch today with a used one. Next problem is my hood doesn't lock anymore it's stuck open. Maybe hood latch cable problem. Thanks for amazing tutorial.
Thank you so much. Had to leave the key in the ignition last nite. So far, so good. Not quite the same but close enough to hopefully make the fix. For my 2010 I'm praying I got it right since it still starts 😁🙋 Honda CRV
You're welcome Kathi! Thanks for subscribing! Another common cause is a failed OMRON brand relay on the A/C (air conditioning) circuit. They keep the magnet on the compressor clutch on all night.
3:40. The Odyssey horn in particular is so loud, I took a pair off a junkyard van and installed them on my LBC (little British car) for safety reasons!
Great video. We were woken up at 3am to the horn blowing like someone had there hand on it. It stopped when I started the car but started blowing the horn once I turned the SUV off again. It was a steady horn sound and not the normal on and off alarm sound. This is a 2008 Acura MDX by the way. Could the hood switch cause this condition as well?
Hope this works on my 2012 CRV - alarm has gone off two times in two days. Any ideas on what would be making the car think one of the doors is open when the temp is cold?
I did this and it still goes off. I've read about a Honda shock sensor dealer add on and looked for it (suppose to be mounted next to the cruise control brian next to the steering column) but I don't think mine has it. What else should I look for?
This just happened to my 2009 Odyssey, its been raining for 2 days and the temperature has been a little chilly outside, its unlocked right now and the alarm hasnt went off. I'm gonna try to unplug the sensor and see if that fixes it
Brian, my wife's 2008 Honda Pilot had a dashboard dummy light showing that the tailgate wasn't locked/shut even though it was. I sprayed some WD40 in the tailgate lock area and solved the problem. Unfortunately, the solution was temporary as the security alarm sounded later that day. Will detaching the plug under the hood latch solve my problem or is there a plug I can detach at the tailgate? If I need to detach one at the tailgate, do you have any guidance you can offer?
My 07 Ody still goes off with the connector disconnected. I saw another vid where a jumper wire was inserted. My connector has two wide and two really tiny connections. I jumped the wide slots and locked it up. Fingers crossed.
@briansmobile1, Hey Brian, if you just disconnect the switch (like you showed in the video), will it cause the car to think that the hood is open all the time? Do you need to use a paperclip/jump wire to close the switch and then reconnect any of the wires that were connected together to bypass the hood latch part? I'm trying to fix this issue on my 99 Acura TL. Thanks!
Thank you! 14 years later still helping people!

Rakesh Kumar did it ever go off again? Mine has been doing this at night and I got a shitty note from an unhappy/unsatisfied mother.
You just save an Odyssey from a sledgehammer! Couldn't get it to stop and in the middle of the night my neighbors were willing to help! I and my neighbors thank you!
Thanks so much you saved my life from an annoying alarm.👍👍
Brian,
Great job on the description for the fix (and the hilarious yet timely stop on the breaking and entering instructions). Just to add to the list of possible causes:
1-Had my tranny changed
2-The latch mechanism was handled, lubed and put back in order to install the new cooler

3-The alarm started going off that night at the shop (draining the battery)
Got it home and after a few annoying sessions and your video, its fixed.

Love, love, love, simple to the point channel's that cut to the chase!!! Thank you, sir!
Finally a fix to that! Ive been having to park my Odyssey outside and I have to leave the hood open so it won't go off but I'm always worried someone is going to mess with it or steal the battery. Thank you sir!!!

There's a difference between unplugging and fixing. Still helpful regardless. Thanks bro!

Thanks, I did it on my 200 Acura and its fine now. Cheers from Montreal
@dustycoyote1 I'm not sure. This van always went off just when locking the doors.
Thanks for posting this video. My van woke me up this morning. Temp dropped from -2 to -28.

are you saying that this will disconnect your alarm permanently?
Thank you SO MUCH! I have my horn FUSE unplugged right now, and it's the middle of the night, but tomorrow I plan to do this.
Thanks Brian,
After looking for the switch under the hood (The 2008 Odyssey does not have the hood switch, at least not one that I could find) I finally disconnected the horns to stop the noise and the staring from passers by. Where are the horns? 😭 I need to disconnect it
4:30 AM, just did what you suggested and it makes sense. Saw the sensor and plugged it out on my 2011 Honda Civic. Thanks Ranjan
:) hehe....this was our van. Oh, that sound....haha...it was no fun. Thanks for getting that done all those years ago, Brian!!
Thank you Brian!! You informative and entertaining video saved us from the dreaded and extremely
You're welcome Andy! Way to get it done!

Thanks Brian! That's quite a BRAIN. Very thorough on mechanical and easy instruction to fix. My Odyssey has been acting up, bet the neighbors were wondering that the F*** is with this van.
I'm glad to hear I could help you out. You sound like a nice guy.

thanks bro!.
Will disconnecting alarm sensor, dis arm the alarm for reset or should I just replace it
Great advice - clear and helpful and complete - you take all the mystery out of this horrible design/engineering FLAW on my Honda Pilot !
A thousand thanks for this video. I've had several embarrasments from this problem. great video
Thanks!! Problem fixed! My co-workers will be happy NOT to have a disruptive car alarm going off anymore!!
Any updates on this fix on your Honda.
+driftkids13 NO MORE ALARM X
+tanya kidd The alarm still functions...its just disabled the bonnet where the issue was - common fault on this model x
@karmaduk The other cause I've seen is the factory CD player when they get a penny in them.
Thank you great video.. Do you ever work on Freightliner truck?
Great video. We were woken up at 3am to the horn blowing like someone had there hand on it. It stopped when I started the car but started blowing the horn once I turned the SUV off again. It was a steady horn sound and not the normal on and off alarm sound. This is a 2008 Acura MDX by the way. Could the hood switch cause this condition as well?
Thank you for the video. My husband tried this and even cut the wire and we are still having trouble with the alarm. Any ideas what to try next?
+Joy Bratton Me too
I'm having the same issue
Me too
Hope this works on my 2012 CRV - alarm has gone off two times in two days. Any ideas on what would be making the car think one of the doors is open when the temp is cold?
Thx, its 4am. I will try this in the morning.
I did this and it still goes off. I've read about a Honda shock sensor dealer add on and looked for it (suppose to be mounted next to the cruise control brian next to the steering column) but I don't think mine has it. What else should I look for?
My 98 crv seems like it doesn’t have a sensor. Any ideas what’s triggering the alarm?
with the rear open, you remove the bolts on either side and you should be able to gain access.
This just happened to my 2009 Odyssey, its been raining for 2 days and the temperature has been a little chilly outside, its unlocked right now and the alarm hasnt went off. I'm gonna try to unplug the sensor and see if that fixes it
@ briansmobile1 I think I got the sensor unplugged, but my question is does this disengage the horn from working completely?
+TheGallopman think it just disables the security in the bonnet, doesnt connect to anything else
Have a 05 Honda accord im trying it tomorrow, I just left the car unlocked, my neighbors are freaking pissed 😤 an myself, thanks for the help.
I unplugged it on my Honda crv it didn’t help me so I’m just not locking the doors until I can figure out what it is . Good video
What model year(s) does this apply to?
Thanks man! Very Helpful. Got a smile from me despite the awful alarm and stress.
My 07 Ody still goes off with the connector disconnected. I saw another vid where a jumper wire was inserted. My connector has two wide and two really tiny connections. I jumped the wide slots and locked it up. Fingers crossed.
Bit of a resurrection. Solved the same problem on the Acura. Thanks for posting this.
Will it pass inspection if you keep it disconnected?
You're welcome Steve!
Can it be the same reason for the honda pilot2011?
Thanks for this. Just disconnected the alarm wire on my 2011 CR-Z, and hope that does solve this very annoying problem!
Just tries it on my 2000 Acura el. I'll let you know if it works.
Thank you
Thank you. You have saved me alot of heartache.
@Mail4dalej You're welcome
My alarm has been going off when I am IN my Honda Ody with the door open! What the heck? Is it due to faulty wiring in the door?
So, I disconnected the plug and the alarm kept going off. Any other fixes besides the latch plug?
@briansmobile1, Hey Brian, if you just disconnect the switch (like you showed in the video), will it cause the car to think that the hood is open all the time? Do you need to use a paperclip/jump wire to close the switch and then reconnect any of the wires that were connected together to bypass the hood latch part? I'm trying to fix this issue on my 99 Acura TL. Thanks!
