I'm by no means an expert on Salmon Run, but one tip I've personally applied in Freelance, not just practically but also as a courtesy, is that it might not be a good idea to lure a boss unless *you* can kill it easily, for example if you're using a roller or brush, you might not want to try luring a Steelhead, since it's just going to sort of create a problem for your charger or splatling that they then have to deal with, rather than just keeping it at arm's length until they can deal with it on their own time. Essentially, don't force your coworkers to do extra work because of something you might want to do, not only because it might annoy them, but also in Freelance games you might overestimate their skill and get them killed, and messing up the entire team.

Another caveat is if you're going to do luring, it is absolutely critical to take out any fish sticks near the basket immediately. They can ink turf and impede mobility in an awful hurry. Also with steel eels, I abandon any plans to get too cute with luring if there are more than one of them. Two or more steel eels working together can easily wrap around you and then you are completely screwed. This is where I really miss having the splashdown special.

The tip of leaving Stingers, big shots, and flyfishes alone after defeating them couldn’t be more true. A good portion of losses come from 2 workers being on the perimeter of the map trying to deliver these eggs slowly, while the potential eggs around the basket are enough for Quota. And those two other workers are prolly overwhelmed by Bosses at that point.

I love when I have the rare team of freelance randoms willing to lure bosses. We pretty much always win those runs. But when my teammates are determined to kill everything right where it spawns on the shore, I've learned it is best to join them as you mentioned. Trying to get things to the basket just lets the stubborn shore runners get overwhelmed quicker and leaves me with needing to go out and save them anyways, better to join them in the fray at the shore and hope things work out.

My performance got much better in Salmon run when I started luring, but then I began to realize how many players don't understand its merits because just today (at the time of me typing this) I had 3 freelance runs where my teammates would kill a Scrapper that just spawned at the shoreline at the start of the wave. I get that it's really easy to get all 3 eggs in the basket at the very start, but if we're all doing that, then the chums and etc aren't being dealt and it'll take longer for everyone to notice new bosses.

As someone who is stuck playing freelance I've become very good at knowing when to lure a boss and when not too, I've become very good at telling the skill level of my co-workers, normally after wave one I can tell what there skill level is so I know what I should lure and what I shouldn't like one time I noticed that my co-workers were not that good at taking down steel heads so I not sure not to lure them and that I had to deal with the steal heads so my advice is to observe your co-workers and see if you can tell what there skill level is as that will help you out in making decisions on what to do!😁👍

This makes me think that one of the best communication options on the D-pad Nintendo could add is "Lure here!" or something like that

A good mechanism for luring when it comes to coding is that you could change the “Lure here!” into “Lure (boss name)” by marking a boss with damage and the code will implement the communication to say “Lure (boss name)” to give the crew a general idea of which boss you’re trying to lure so they don’t lure a steelhead by accident. Overall it will take a bit of time to create this code in order to get every boss’s name and hit box down. Afterwards It’s all just a matter of copy and past.

You would think this would be an obvious thing to do as I'm left wondering why the first thing someone does is intercept a Scrapper on a narrow path on Spawning Grounds during low tide. They'll stop the Scrapper then stand there expecting someone else to go circle behind it on the narrow path just to get swarmed by the Chums, Cohocks, and Smallfries that are all lined up behind it. I see this every time and once they do this I just give up unless a roller is in the rotation.

Something to note about low rank teams especially; sometimes people will let themselves get mobbed and die seemingly out of nowhere, because they're too focused on trying to shoot down a boss and aren't looking around themselves.
If you see some of your dumb rando teammates laser-focusing on a flyfish, the best you can do is just shoot the chums that are inevitably surrounding them. It's not flashy or impressive, but someone's gotta do it or the whole team will suffer.
You get more orange eggs that way anyways, and you can still grab a golden egg or two afterwards.

When it comes to luring I take it on a boss by boss basis
Maws - do it every time it's easy and free eggs
Flipper floppers - most of the time as well usually only a threat when your being overwhelmed
Scrappers - Generally yes but I find if you got a solid coworker it can better to just hit it point it in the direction of a co-worker and kill it
Steel eels - I prefer not to since they are too disruptive near basket
Steel heads - depends on rotation if you got something good for killing them go for it but you will lose alot of ground fast.
Slamming lid - way too disruptive I prefer to either kill them quickly or if there are priority targets let it stick around and use it to kill another boss.
I personally find egg toss makes luring less important (big exepction for fog tho) but moderate use keeps me consistently as a top performer for golden egg delivery.

I just wanted to mention, in this game, u can now use the snatchers to help u get eggs closer to the basket if theres eggs on the shore line. in every wave, the snatchers all come from one spot in the water, to go gather eggs, and they also go back to that same point when they got them, unlike previously where they just go to the closest body of water. u can use this to ur advantage, look to see where the snatchers are comming from and if theyir flying path goes by the basket somewhere, dont kill them, let them pick up the eggs and then kill them when theyre flying over the basket. This works only half the time though as on most stages theres only one shore line that alines with the path of where the snatchers spawn from. but its really useful when theres a lot of eggs on the shore and the snatchers can just carry them back over for you. but it does take a lot of time for them to gather them then fly back over so make sure you know where theyre comming from earlier than later and which ones you should and shouldn't kill, it wount work at the last 20 seconds or so because they fly so slowly, and they pick up each egg individually really slowly. but thats all just wanted to say that because thats a good way to also lure and fix the problem of eggs on the shore line.

It’s so discouraging to see your team rush a scrapper at the shore at the start of a wave. It’s also really common when dealing with a static boss for players to engage everything else in that area rather than taking out 1 or 2 then retreating. Failing to meet quota with 20 eggs laying on the shoreline is the worst

I feel as if luring works best when you have a team of folks you can outwardly communicate with. Trust is a big issue with freelance in Salmon Run and I find it difficult to place faith in randoms to properly be able to kill bosses they lure and it ends up causing a complete mess at the basket a lot of the time.

It should be noted that throwing eggs has a small area around you that will do 100 damage to anything too close to you, which can kill smallfrys and reglar salmonoids instantly, so it can be used as a last ditch effort to 1: Get an egg closer to the basket and 2: save yourself from being swarmed. This is especially useful on griller waves.

  • @PyraXadon

One thing I recommend learning if you're able is to sort of 'bomb flick', if that makes sense. Maws are among the easiest bosses to kill and lure, and in a lot of situations, especially in one where you're trying to go elsewhere, you can basically do a drive by to throw a bomb into the circle and then leave for a co-worker to pick up the eggs for you. The 'flick' part comes from the movement you do to throw the bomb as you may be shooting the adds, but see the circle in the corner of your eye. To which you would flick you controller quickly to throw the bomb, before redirecting yourself to go/do something elsewhere. Useful as well if maws is just on you and you can turn around quickly to throw the bomb in the circle.
So many times in Splat2 and 3 do I see players just wait around for maws to pop up around the circle to refill their ink before throwing, which is just something you don't need to do.

A good technique for dealing with Scrappers, especially if they’re one of the first bosses to spawn, is to sneak behind and shoot them so that their exposed side is facing the basket. You’re teammates can then splat them much more easily, and get it’s eggs faster.

I also the D-pad to communicate every time i see a priority target, and try to disengage the soonest compared to my coworkers, as most people tend to stay for too long on the shore, resulting in not having a good oversight on the battlfield as a whole.

The problem with Salmon Run is that (in short) the game give more rewards to the person who put more eggs in the basket. Normally I play as a crowd control and the member luring the pack (and even Cohozuna), also panting and repainting the key access to assist my team, and throwing eggs from the cost to close to the nest (yeah, most people do not know about luring and just want to put eggs in the basket to raise their counters, is understandable and not blaming anyone), and end up being the guy with less rewards. Salmon Run must reward players who assist with the eggs, giving at least a badge for "throwing eggs", so Nintendo should fix this in the future. Note that the booyah! also helps to distract and to divide packs when they're attacking one team member, and luring in those cases means to drag the pack away from the nest, to avoid getting all the members being trapped in a box (commonly splatted all at the same time).

And saying "this way!!" has no way to convey "yo sillies, stop splatting maws and cars over there!!!". But if I join them - surprise surprise! - we will have missiles fired at us, or steel eels circling the basket area, because while we were busy splatting things on one side and getting all the eggs, other bosses spawned elsewhere. I mostly got the problem that other freelance players dedicate too much time recovering eggs from the shore, so i need to take care of the horde and sometimes it works, but sometimes you get weapons that cant reliably take out certain bosses and then it falls apart quickly

I dont see much luring in freelance matches. What I do see often is when a big shot spawns at least one other player sets up shop there to the detriment of the rest of the team, and many times has that ended our game on a loss.

I'm guilty of that, but not because I'm bad at SR, but I was grinding to get the Big Shot Badge, as he's my favorite Salmonid lol. I got the badge finally so at least you can take comfort knowing one random person online won't do that anymore lol

All too often, teammates are slaughtering easy kills like Scrappers and Steel Eels as soon as they surface and then we don't make quota.

I don't know if this will work in freelance but how about using This Way near the basket when you see easy to kill bosses like maws and scrappers to tell the team to let them close in. Would that work?

Hi I have a question how would one lure a slammin lid

    • @HDHaZmY
      @HDHaZmY  Рік тому +1

With Slammin lid it's important to stay away from it when it spawns so it stops closer to the basket!

I'm sure I'm not the first person to say this, but I noticed you weren't really squidrolling in easy areas.
6:32 This is a good example, you could've squidrolled for every egg you picked up here, would be a bit faster, and more fun!

  • @demonicdude1328

Some bosses should be killed on sight like steel eels and slam'n lids, but scrapers and maws can be lured all the way to the basket with little risk

I sort of disagree with the leaving the eggs alone from bosses such as bigshots, flyfish and Stingers. If there are multiple bosses near a big shot, you can knock them all out and use the cannons to get the eggs much closer to the basket, No real point to just leaving them there if you are already clearing those bosses out

  • @rnbrocks187

So I have to admit, it looks like the difference between whether luring is helpful or harmful depends on the stage.

My biggest problem is that mostly my team mates are on one coast, all three of them collecting eggs, while am surrounded by three Bosses at the other coast and a bunch of smaller salmonids... Like I need help over here why are ALL THREE of you just collecting golden eggs? And they will stay there even so I said hey this way and then I die, cuz than it's already five Bosses surrounding me 😭 and i got a high rank, why are my mates so weird?

My favorite strategy (at least when the rotation suits it) is just one word: MURDER
If every boss just dies, then there will be no real threat and there will be countless eggs scattered everywhere!
If my weapon and special complements it, I tend to go for the ones that stay at shore first, because they can't really get killed by dropping a booyah bomb or a reefslider near the basket.

    "Luring" is nothing new.
In the video game world, pulling and kiting is used to round up mobs to help farming.

    Yes, thank you !
Lure the bosses or let them come closer to the basket, but don’t rush towards bosses as soon as they spawn !
One major thing I wish more people knew about : when a Flyfish spawns, don’t kill it, simply cripple it. Throw one bomb and move on, and if a teammate is already on it, focus on something else ! They always drop their eggs in the worst spots.
Only 3 can spawn on a map, and 3 damaged ones are not that much of a problem. Also, it will help spawn more Mawses, that can be lured directly to the basket !

I believe luring is less relevant now that egg throwing is in salmon run. Because oh boy in s2 there were wayyyy more wraps than there are now. I mostly get wraps when the weapon rotation requires a higher skill level. But these tips are definitely great and luring can still be helpful I just think egg throwing made it more manageable overall
