    I'm a huge fan as well.
    One of the best opening lines ever written: "The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed."
    Long live The King!

      Disagree with almost the entire list, except for the long walk. That was always my favorite forever growing up. Read that thing like five times. Rare--well, old Stephen King used to do sci-fi short storys--foray into science fiction genre for Stephen King. Although, I guess technically, all of his stories kind of contain an element of Science Fiction (or supernatural,which is basically the same thing). Speaking of, The Jaunt short story of his is another one of my favorites, also scifi... Hell I don't know what I was talking about with the Syfy comment earlier, cuz what I might consider my favorite book of his nowadays would be 11/22/63, a time travel story, aka the most genre specific quintessential science-fiction subgenre of all time. Pet Sematary might be what I would consider his most literary, not just for pure entertainment purposes, book. Lot of thematic elements about life and rebirth that are executed very well by King in that book. Dark Tower - - I've read the seven books of what would be considered the original "septilogy" a combined total of 18 times. Only thing that I would like to say about those books is that every single one of them is better than the one that was written previously. So, the first one's the worst one, The Drawing of the Three is the second not goodest, and the best one's the last one. It's crazy how that worked out, but it is so true if you read them. Green Mile, The Langoliers, Apt Pupil, Hearts in Atlantis. Couple of deep cuts there. The eyes of the Dragon was probably my favorite for a long time in grade school. I read that I don't even know how many times. It's really great fantasy, and that's coming from a guy who's not really that big on fantasy. The Stand is his most overrated work in my opinion. I read it twice, once as a fairly wee youngling and then once more recently and its still not that captivating to me. I like Dolores Claiborne infinitely more than The Stand.

    There is just something about Stephen King; he allows you to completely immerse yourself into that world. My favourite is definitely The Shining. Complete eye opener for alcoholism and family tragedy. I personally couldn't get in to The Firestarter. I don't know what it was but I just couldn't do it. I tried about six years ago now so maybe I will give it another go!

      Firestarter is the only horror movie/ novel that gave me recurring nightmares for years. Paranoid shit about government conspiracies and CIA dudes stalking me and having nowhere to hide... My other recurring nightmares are usually about my teeth falling out, or not having done a term paper that's due, or car accidents... mundane shit... That something managed to tap into my psyche to that extent says VOLUMES.

    Have only read 11.22.63 so far (I feel so far behind), but absolutely loved it. I'm a big history and politics nerd, so this was a perfect first King novel for me. I will be trying to read as many King books as I can get my hands on now! Not into electronic versions, so I will be scouring my local second-hand bookstore for anything King...

    My favorite Stephen King book, so far, is 11/22/63. I read it in the beginning of this month and just loved the overall story. It did not feel like 800 pages when I was reading; there was nothing I found bad about this book. It was like this epic historical fiction/time-travel/thriller. The Shining and Misery are close. I need to read more. I've only read about 5 (gonna start my 5th,Dreamcatcher, next month). I'd love to see more of your top 5's :)

      It is kind of a kid's book, in a way. It was my favorite book of his for several years (it was my endlessly rereadable fictional bible in grade school), probably until I read The Body and Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption and Apt Pupil in 6th grade. Those three novellas, released at the same time inside of one book, are genre-defying, mind blowing, and life-affirming, timeless tales(shout out to the winter story from Different Seasons also. The Breathing Method. It is really good too, but it's not on the masterpiece level that transcends the author and the society that produced it, like the other three.) Nothing wrong with books conceived to be read by a child audience either. The Phantom Tollbooth is still one of my all-time favorites. Green Eggs and Ham is velveteen peanut butter smooth, too.

    I've watched this video so many times! I've started collecting his books last summer and have read them nonstop ever since. He's by far my favorite author. I love your list of favorite books by him, I actually just read Firestarter because you made it sound very interesting, and I absolutely loved it. The only other book you mention in this video that I've read is The Stand, which is the first book I read by Stephen King.
    Quick fun story... I live an hour and a half away from Stephen King in Maine and I actually ran into him (literally) a few years ago at a thrift store in a town called Bridgton because I was really young and distracted by a toy I found. Also, he used to go to my mom's school every now and then because he was good friends with her english teacher, so that's part of the reason I wanted to read his books because we live so close to him and my family has met him.
    Anyway, I'm currently finishing up 'Salem's Lot because I'm just picking random books that sound interesting to me, and I need some suggestions for what to read later this year. I'm not picky when it comes to Stephen King, I love his type of writing and out of all the books I've read so far (only about ten) I haven't had a single problem with any of them. You should make another Stephen King video in the future because I absolutely loved this video :)

    I, too, am a diehard Stephen King fanatic! My first was "The Dead Zone", & from then on I've read nothing but Stephen King. He paints pictures with words! "The Stand" is my all-time favorite, with "Eye of The Dragon" running a close second. Third place is "11/22/63" (the day JFK died), fourth is "Under the Dome", and fifth is "Four After Midnight". I could go on and on, I've read so many....
    His books are ALWAYS so much better than the movies, although "Carrie" & "Firestarter" were among the best movies I've ever seen.

    • @chrismiller1319831
      @chrismiller1319831 8 років тому +5

      I have to disagree! I really enjoyed what Kubrick did with it, and for the time, the changes were probably pretty smart, but the novel to me just had so much more depth and the transition of Jack Torrence was SOOOO much more interesting in the book. Watching a deeply flawed man who has a wake-up call and tries desperately to do the right thing and become a good man, but ultimately fails. It was just beautiful to me.

    • @bassplayer2011ify
      @bassplayer2011ify 7 років тому +2

      Yeah no I love Kubrick's Shining but to say it's better than the book that is pushing it. It's really close but the book is better for one reason and one reason only say it with me now... character development. The reason why I hold the film in such high esteem is because although Kubrick used a lot of artistic license their were scenes lifted straight from the book word for word and of course Nicholson was amazing.

    Never really read Stephen King, this top 5 video has made me legitimately want to read all of his stuff. If a majority of other characters are mentioned in the dark tower, what books should I read before hand, so I understand the references?

    • @MoreMoreOrange
      @MoreMoreOrange  9 років тому +2

      ***** Honestly you pretty much have to read everything in his bibliography to catch every reference in The Dark Tower. Just read it whenever you want to and don't worry about the references. They aren't overly important to the overall storyline. Probably the most prominent character that makes an appearance is one from Salem's Lot. So maybe read Salem's Lot. (It's kind of a vampire story, very good) Then just crack on with TDT. Usually I suggest reading TDT before reading everything else or read everything else then TDT. Your pick. (Liam just started reading King's work and he went with TDT very early!) You won't miss out on anything by reading TDT without reading anything else. Hard to explain. Go for it however you wish. I cannot advise very well. lol

Never been interested in reading his books but since have read (audiobooks suit me best) listened to many of them. Don't like sci if or paranormal stuff but this book was fantastic. Also great to listen to his "on writing" audiobook which he tells his beginning as a writer and his motivations, interesting hints about what to write or not if you are a budding author.

    One Stephen King book that I absolutely loved, and feel is fairly underrated, is Dolores Claiborne. Its one of those King books that gripped me in tight and I just kept reading until I finished the book in about 4 or so days. Definitely recommended, its also a really powerful and emotional story, and the way he writes it from the perspective of the main character just makes the development and story that much better. Great video, by the way!
