I get what you’re saying. But try looking at it this way. Cole been saying he’s the best, yes. He shouldn’t have kept saying it if he didn’t expect someone to test him. So Kendrick dissed him. Cole replies, but then doesn’t feel right about it because he doesn’t believe what he’s saying. It’s not genuine. Cole has always seemed to be a genuine dude. So he apologized for dissing Kendrick because it’s not authentic.
People are saying it is hip hop. It won’t turn to street beef. Really? You don’t think the diss tracks will escalate and turn more personal? You don’t think they would try to one-up the other? Why are Hit ‘Em Up, Either, No Vaseline considered to be all-time great diss tracks? Because of what they’re saying in the songs. They’re personal. Cole didn’t feel that way about Kendrick.
I don’t think Cole should’ve released the diss track. Cole got what he asked for, I agree. He was talking all that smack. But I’m not about to stop listening to his music over this. He’s still a top level MC.
