Fun fact about the paradoxes: if you wanna read up on them you’re not supposed to read the Scarlet/Violet Books, but the occulture books in the library. In there they have small gossip tabloids about them however they’re just as barebones as the original SV books

One thing that annoys me about the Past Paradoxes is that they don't appear to be inspired by specific dinosaurs/extinct animals. Like, Great Tusks is a Mammoth, Sandy Shocks is maybe a caveman, and that's it already. Like, sure, fans SAY Fluttermane is a Pterosaur, but like... It really isn't. It doesn't flap its wings the way Pterosaurs do, it doesn't land and crawl around on them, hell, its wing-bits don't even have the right shape. Sure, Screamtail has saber teeth... But so do some tiny deer to this day. Roaring moon does take inspiration from Mega Salamence, but even after that scrap, the actual past goes largely ignored with the past paradoxes.
The future paradoxes have a similar issue. Not only are they robots, but aside from maybe Miraidon they all look like they were built by the same person. And for what purpose?
Iron moth looks like it could be a satellite. Allegedly it might be an alien invader. Why it looks like the other paradoxes in that case, who knows. Why it isn't based on a Pokemon associated with space like Starmie or Clefable instead, who knows.
Iron Valiant looks like it could be from a robot apocalypse setting, maybe, with its "human like robot" vibes. It also looks like it could be a robotic minion used by a supervillain, which the Scarlet dex entry suggests. It looks like it could be a caretaker meeting a security system. It looks like it could be an enforcer. It looks like it could be a sapient robot alien. It looks like it could be a mannequin designed to show off military gear. What is it? Who knows, but it sure looks like it could be a lot of things.
ALL the Future Paradoxes are like this. They could be dozens of things. Some look a lot like they could be specific things. Maybe Iron Bundle works as a firefighter. Maybe it carries water to people stuck in disaster situations. Maybe its a circus clown and uses its waterball to spray people. Maybe it's a mobile nuclear rod cooling unit. Maybe it's a weird art piece and the ball was a fish bowl, all the beings inside having rotted away by now. Maybe it houses brine shrimp. Maybe it's from an apolocalyptic future where ground rock types are threatening to destroy humanity and waterballoons are more efficient than most bombs. Maybe its a childrens toy. Maybe its a double agent robot meant to dunk water on enemy robots to shortcircuit them. Maybe it's a camera designed to look like Delibird to film them in a natural environment, and the ball of water just means absolutely nothing. Maybe it's that last one but the water is part of a weird counterweight or gyroscope contraption. Maybe its a deep sea exploration companion, and the water ball used to be an oxygen ball, but the mission went awry and it flooded. Maybe its an AI opponent for a bowling-esque game. Maybe the bundle doesn't actually contain water, and its a molotov cocktail, or a wasp trap, or IV-drip fluid, or an artificial womb.
They aren't real, of course, most likely even within the canon of the games, themselves. Why they decided to leave the imagination process to a character who seems to have such an either unclear or boring (if it really is just "Pokemon but robot/dinosaur") vision of the past/future, I do not know.
We could have had decrepit, plantcovered robots from a postapocalypse. We could have had a cobbled together one that just looks like an utter mess. We could have one that has mutliple containers for mysterious specimens attached to it. All we have is a satellite bug and a lizard-bike.
We could have had mon designs that reference prehistory on more than a vague surface level. We could have had designs inspired by actual animals, or the retroactively obviously wrong historical renditions of animals from the Crystal Palace days, to hint further at the "these are fake" theory. All we have is a naked mammoth with a reptilian tail and a lizard-horse.

The Ultra Beasts were a better execution on the otherworldly Pokemon concept. Their designs are all unique to each other. They have both codenames and actual names. We get to explore a small part of the worlds they're from in the Ultra Sun/Moon games and see a bit of their personalities there too. Paradoxes on the other hand all have similar design concepts, like the Scarlet paradoxes being dinosaur-like or the Violet paradoxes being all robots. And don't even get me started on Violet's naming conventions for their paradoxes just being "Iron ____".

Apart from the general design issues I find it very obnoxious that they added such a big list of unbreedable exclusives to each game. I already didn't like it when previous games had big lists of exclusive legendaries but they replicated that here even without that kind of supposed pedigree.

I think it's even worse than you make it out to be. In every new generation of game they have a hefty amount of returning pokemon. I can't imagine we'll see very many paradox mons returning in upcoming generations, if any at all. Story-wise it just wouldn't make a lot of sense to include Iron Hands in gens 10+, for example; at least not without Gamefreak just kinda ignoring context of how the got there. Or making some shallow hand waving context that doesn't actually explain anything.

There’s a theory that the reason these pokemon look so similar thematically is because they aren’t ACTUALLY from the past or future, but what the professor IMAGINED they would look like. the “time machine” just manifested them physically. this also explains the “imagined pokemon” section and how likely it is we’ll be getting those two in a DLC.

So, waltzing around the upper layers of the academy's library, I found a couple books that explained the Paradox Pokemon. One book for each.
It told me the most bare-bones bullshit ever. It's the crap that's barely hinted at in some of their Pokedex entries. So not only is the Pokedex lying, WE STILL KNOW JACKSHIT ABOUT THEM.
"Iron Treads is believed to be an alien superweapon" ok cool, DAFUQ DOES IT DO THOUGH!? I'd love to figure out how a Hydreigon boned a PS5 and created my personal favourite Future Form. I'd love to learn more about the supposed Ancient civilisation that Iron Bundle comes from. I'd kill to learn about how the Pokemon of the past are actually different from their modern counterparts aside from a type change and being slightly more aggressive.
Also, fuck Paradox Pokemon for removing the chance of more interesting regional forms. I would've loved a Paldean Misdreavus and Mismagius, but instead we got a dead Aerodactyl called "Flutter Mane". The only good ones are Winged King aka Koraidon and Iron Serpent aka Miraidon. And they're only good because:
    A. they are cute and cool. I just love reptiles and giant motorbike ones that love sandwiches and do Sonic Spin Dashes are AWESOME.
    B. just like you said, we actually know shit about them and we get to see them do stuff.
I also feel like Gamefreak missed the opportunity for more real world evolution. We have HOW MANY speculative evolution stuff? You telling me that Gamefreak couldn't just look up "Curious Archive" in the UA-cam search bar and watch their shit on the many speculative evolution stuff people have made?

@@droomish1 first of all, thanks for calling me smart. You didn't need to. Second of all, yeah, I agree.
I just wanna know what's actually going on with the Paradox 'mons just like you. "Iron Hands is a cyborg athlete" ok, but... how does any part of it work? The only one we kind of understand is Roaring Moon, as according to Mega Aerodactyl's Pokedex, Mega Evolution just partially reawakens long dormant genes in a Pokemon, so Roaring Moon is what regular Salamence would be like in the past. A dragon that is closer to its mega as the long dormant genes are still active and haven't been lost to millions of years of evolution.
If only all of the Paradox Pokemon were more like that...

Paradox Pokémon so unique and interesting
Because we actually don’t know what they are. I love the fact that Koraidon’s Code name is Winged King and Miraidon’s Code name is Iron Serpent.
What makes these Pokémon very interesting is due to the fact that they might not be real, hence a Paradox which is something that doesn’t make sense and false but has a slim chance to be real.
The whole theories surrounding the existence of paradox Pokémon is extremely more interesting than the Ultra Beasts imo because they have a lot of info which makes them boring because we know a lot, but when it comes to the Paradoxmons they have a sense of mystery.
The Occulture books are another interesting thing introduced in the Pokémon universe because they are one of those magazines that talk about the supernatural and Extraterrestrial and are most likely fake.
Like in Scarlet they have Paranormal Magazines and in Violet they have Dubious magazines talking about supernatural beings in Scarlet while talking about Extraterrestrial beings in Violet.
Plus the code names are, well yes a bit dumb but that’s what these people back in the day called them.
So I’m other words Paradox Pokémon have substance but it’s limited in a good and interesting way imo.
By the way there are theories saying that these Pokémon are created by imagination. They may not have information but that doesn’t mean they have no substance to them.
    In my opinion.

I don’t think the paradox Pokémon are actually from the future or past. I think they are just imagined versions brought to life by the weird disk pokémon. I don’t think that the time machine is really a time machine either, I think it’s tied to the disk Pokémon. definitely think there’s more going on. some of the answers lie in the sketch of one of the supposed DLC baits: “A drawing of a fantastical Pokémon as envisioned by our sketch artist. The size and ferocity of the strange Pokémon that dwell in Area Zero's lower reaches tickled the artist's imagination, prompting this sketch of what other species that inhabit these depths might look like.”. The professor became obsessed with occulture magazine which is itself derived from the historical accounts of the scarlet/violet book. but- it’s all propaganda. it makes it even sadder that they abandoned their child. Arven even notes the paradox pokémon CAN’T be what the historical account is referencing because the book predates his parent’s time machine. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i think given that, the weird gaps in information we receive is appropriate, at least to me!

My only problems with Paradox Pokémon are the names and the uncreative designs. They should have the names that are similar to previous Pokémon, not the convergent ones. Those should have completely different names that may be a slight resemblance.
As for the designs, I'm mostly disappointed with the Future Paradox Pokémon. The Past ones could be made a bit more unique but there are so many pieces of media that speculate on what the animals could look like. Sure, some like Iron Thorns make sense to have as robots, but why not take inspiration from outside sources?

However, almost nobody notice that they are doing the same with other parts of the game unfortunately.
Each generation has been introducing this new group of strange new pokemons/forms that are tied to that game and are incredibly difficult to come by in the future just because they don't expand on them.
I would have rather just have ultrabeasts (just like I would have rather just have megas), they are an amazing concept and with a great execution that just needed to be explored more, but noooo, we cannot have that, better come up with their cheap knock off soon just to abandon it soon after as well.

If the theory that the paradox Pokemon are a not actually from the past and future, but are products of what someone imagined these Pokemon would look like in the past or future turns out to be not true, then the only way the future ones make sense is if they were artificially augmented Pokemon made by some evil team that got loose and out-competed their non-cybernetic counterparts, driving them to extinction. It would also explain why they are based on either fully evolved Pokemon or Pokemon that don’t evolve: why would you augment a Pokemon that has not even reached its natural potential yet?
This would be such a cool premise for a sequel game: going to the future to stop an evil team from creating Pokemon that would cause the ultimate ecological disaster and having to fight off these cyborgs along the way.
Unfortunately, that is never going to happen. Their thought process when designing the future Pokemon was probably: future = robots instead of doing some reading on speculative evolution, which is actually a thing in biology IRL.
Also, the past versions of the Legendary Beasts make no sense: how are dinosaurs Pokemon supposed to evolve into more mammalian ones? They could have made the past Legendary Beasts based on synapsids, a clade of which was around during the time of the dinosaurs and of which mammals are the only living subgroup, but were much more diverse at one point and even could be superficially mistaken for dinosaurs if they were still going for that dinosaur-like look. I’d suggest basing them off Ice Age mammalian megafauna, but Raikou already looks too much like a saber tooth tiger.

in this same vein, take a minute to examine the deeper meaning behind the goofy ass past and present forms of pokemon that look like their normal versions but with very explicit and obvious (so much so its literally spelled out into their names) motifs of their respective time period? Also flooding the fields full of Pokemon removes the reward of you know....poke-hunting your butt off for rare Pokemon. I'm not saying some places shouldn't be exploding with Pokemon but talk about doing our job for us. 😆 Removing the Legends Arceus catching system was not a win Nintendo. You actually HAD to sneak or risk losing items or that rare mon. 😅

With all the RPGs to bite off these days too. I really feel your point in this video. Nintendo could've bit a little from Monster Hunter, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and many others. 😆
