I see a lot of people debating the origin and semantics of the raga names itself which is definitely a worthwhile conversation to have with respect to scholarship. What this video illustrates though, which such finesse, is the distinct styles and traditions of the singing and the composition in the schools of music. While carnatic seems to be dealing with an almost erudite exploration of the movement of each note, Hindustan music seems to explore the pauses between the notes themselves. Beautiful!
Amr Tamimi no abheri dosent hv shudha dhaivatham....u r saying about the abheri concept of dikshitar.....the commonly used abheri is purely the janya of kharaharapriya...so no shudh dha....dikshitar named the commonly used abheri as karnataka devagandhari...actually the scale of abheri of dikshitar is :s p m p n s and s n d p m g r s....the avarohanam hv shudh dha...veenabheri is a famous composition of dikshitar with this scale.....the scale of commonly used abheri is s g m p n s and s n d p m g r s...this is purely the janya of kharaharapriya...so no shudh dha...
Balu sir, you are of course correct regarding the Abheri of Dikshitar, but my point was the following: there is no tradition of Abheri having chatusruti dhaivatam. Abheri in both Thyagaraja and Dikshitar school has shuddha dhaivatam. It is only in the 20th century that Nagumomu has been sung with Chatushruti dhaivatam. They changed the dhaivatam, but kept the name of the raagam the same, so now Abheri is established as having chatushruti dhaivatam which is incorrect in any school.
though the raag bhimplas was existing in carnatic music, they changed the name to abheri just to prove carnatic is better than hindustani.. why this ego. the song from konjhum silanghai - singara velane was titled as bhimplasi.
Ranganathan Srinivasan what do you mean friend? The number of similar ragas with similar names are just rare actually. If I say there is a dhanashree, abhogi, hamsadhwani(originally of south, now also in north), sindhubhairavi and a littlr more. All other similar ragas are named differently. Mohanam and bhoopali bilaval and sankarabharanam khamaj and harikamboji kafi and kharaharapriya Malkouns and hindolam Pantuvarali and puriya dhanashree the list goes on and goes on

Attractive singing. Please stop calling this raaga Abheri though, it is karnataka devagandhari, abheri has shuddha (dwisruti) dhaivata (komal dha).

Both are too technical- where is the soul in this?
I disagree. They are singing soulfully!
You're the one who has no soul
