  • Using Barnacle Buster to flush my Yanmar 4LHA-DTP 200HP from 2007 heat exchangers / raw water system to clean and improve cooling. I am using the recirculation method for 4 hours.

    Thank you. Your post helped us a lot. Specially dimensions of the hoses so we could come prepared to the boat with all equipment.

    Hi Vincent - I set up exactly as you show but had to keep topping up the water, overall putting 200lt through the bucket.

      Hi Gary! That’s odd, it’s a closed loop and on the 4LHA the cooling system takes about 5L then bucket, hose, BB are probably another 10L so 15 in total. Are you sure you had no leaks?

      @@vincentbourcier7111 Hi Vincent I think I have worked it out I have a raw water line from the first heat exchanger going to my shaft bearings, thanks

    Hi Vincent- just a quick question re the impeller - did you remove that prior or leave it in - was wondering how the impeller bits go past it when running the flow backwards. Good vid thanks!

      Hey Jason! I left the impeller in the pump because it was bypassed in the loop. The impeller bits I found when flushing with fresh water were bits from old impellers from years ago. I treated the boat with barnacle buster shortly after I bought the boat. Hope it helps!

    I have almost same motor do u know what size fittings i need to attach pump to hoses? Thanks so much great video

      Hi Glen Varza! I don't really get your question but if this can help, I didn't need to use fittings to connect the pump to the hoses it all fitted fine luckily. If your pump output is to small what you can alway do is to either use a small section of hose that fit the output with the inside diameter so your outside diameter will be greater. Or you can use electrical tape and wrap it around multiple times till you reach the desired diameter. Hope this can help! Sorry I couldn't reply earlier, we had troubles with the tropical storms over here, good luck!

    Will this do a complete flush considering the thermostat valve will be closed?

    • @vincentbourcier7111
      @vincentbourcier7111  11 місяців тому

      It’s only flushing the raw water system, the thermostat is in the fresh water system. If you need to flush the fresh water system it’s a completely different story.

      I see. My engine is raw water cooled so I have been thinking that to do a complete flush I would not to remove the thermostat.

      Sorry about the typo. I meant I would need to remove the thermostat so that I can do a complete flush.

      @@StevieB_Slowbart fresh water and raw water system are two different loops in your engine. Fresh water is a closed loop and raw water is a open loop. The water from the raw water is cooling your fresh water loop that is cooling your cylinder walls. That allows to use sea water to cool down the engine without have sea water running through your engine block. Sea water also cools the oil, the air and the gear box oil. This video is intended to clean that whole raw water loop because sea water gets in there and all kind of small organisms that restrict the water flow and cause over heating. If you have to clean your fresh water loop you should search infos elsewhere.

    I see you used the Barnacle Buster concentrate. What ratio of BB to water do you mixed?

    • @vincentbourcier7111
      @vincentbourcier7111  4 роки тому

      Ken Yap I used 1 part BB for 4 parts of water, it’s what they advise on the label.

    Is this needed for fresh-water sailboats?

      It won’t hurt you can try if you suspect that your heat exchangers are dirty.
