He sure wasn't thinking about Unbound when he said it, but Greg Lemond's famous quote sure applies. With the fastest Unbound heading North and for the first time a truly separate start for the Women, the competition was intense.
Isabel "Iz" King looks back on her 2024 race, her history with Unbound and why she keeps coming back for more even when this gravel race is hard enough to make you lose your mind.

One of the most humble and modest racers out there! Did not know who she was when I showed up at Sea Otter 2023. (parking right beside her on Thursday for practice lap) She acted like she was just an average racer when in fact she is one of the best and I will continue to cheer her on! Go Iz!!!

Great that they Changed the start format with elite men’s and women’s start separate. Makes it a race, both groups can then work to make a selection from the start. Good change makes fare from the start to finish.

My favorite part about Iz, is that she gets dropped on local group rides yet here she is, trying to race against actual professionals. Sure, she has no chance and gets dropped easily, but she's out there spending her own money and giving it a shot.
