  • Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2's gameplay breakdown video is out but thanks to some observant members in the community we now know a lot more!
    This game is shaping up to look great with its uses of Slime Meter like Slime Cancel, Slime Dash, Slime Block, Slime EX Moves, Slime EX Strongs, etc, etc.

    The gap between platform fighters and traditional fighting games is getting bridged and I couldn't be happier about it.

    i think for competitive, make the game however complex they want with multiple new mechanics to the genre. ide love to see them make the single player/co-op modes very in-depth. I may take the game seriously, but majority of the playerbase who never will should have a home where they can have a continued amount of fun for the overall health of the game.

      I don't think people are dumb to the point that they could not do at least slime EX, slime burst, slime block and Supers, I mean, that four are extremely easy to teach in a tutorial.
      although I would like a really good in-depth tutorial for slime cancels, reduced knockback, slime gains, slime dashes, EX strongs etc.

      @@sebastianortega9980 i dont think people are that dumb, but i think most do not care. lets say anyone in the world can do any advanced technique from brawl (DACUS, jab lock, glide toss, SDI, etc. etc.) if they followed a tutorial, either in game on from a video, but if you ever speak with someone in person they will say "subspace emissary was fun as hell" and i think thats lost on alot of fighting games that die quickly. nasb 2 hinted at a more expansive casual campaign so im hopeful.

      I do hope theirs an option to turn off the Slime Meter and/ or Final Smashes in matches. In case if you don’t like the new mechanics that much

      @@xDrAculax92 yeah no you are right, but what I mean is that a lot of slime meter uses are just the basic mechanics which the game is based on, I mean, by the time you play the campaign and some tutorial and some casual matches it will be pretty clear how to use it and have some fun, with items on and so.
      the four uses I mentioned are inherently to the core mechanics, not an advance tech

    I think NASB2 is in a perfect middle ground. Yes it has a lot of similarities to Smash but it also has enough differences to make it stand out. Most platform fighters try to do something super different and unique, and unfortunately it more often than not backfires. PlayStation All Stars is a good example of this, as well as unfortunately, Multiversus. As great as that game is, the heavy focus on 2v2 did kinda if hurt it in the long run. Brawlhalla imo is the only platform fighter that was successful while doing something completely different
    Rivals of Aether is a platform fighter that is one to one just like Smash, but with a slight change to the physics to make it a beloved title. So, I think NASB2 will be fine, even if has similarities to it. It’s doing enough different things that’ll make it an incredibly good time

      I still hope that NASB2 thinks to add in Batman as a guest fighter
      Since Batman did a crossover with the Ninja Turtles and the 60's Batman show (The Adam West Series) aired on Nickelodeon!

    With a more traditional grab system I wonder if they're going to go for more varied throws like other platform fighters. Some characters having combo throws, some characters setting up tech chases from throw, and some characters getting more damage or kills from throws instead of every character having the same tool would go a long way in differentiating the characters.

    Sad to see that the game's own identity is mostly gone from a gameplay aspect, but to be honest, I believe making all the aspects that they made closer to Smash Bros was for the best, the first game didn't feel bad at all to play, but it felt really unfinished

      Since the Sonic Movie aired on Nickelodeon
      And Street Fighter did 2 crossovers with the Ninja Turtles as of 2023

    I'm pretty pleased with how NASB2 is progressing. Seems like a good mix of NASB1's unique elements, some QoL changes borrowed from other plat fighters, adapted mechanics from traditional fighting games.
    I'll miss the strafe button, but as a Gamecube controller player, I'm glad I'll still have enough buttons to do everything now that there's a slime button.

    I wish the problems of NASB 1 weren't exclusively answered with "ok, lets just make it more like Smash Ultimate"
    There was things I liked about Nick that I wish were expanded upon and tweaked rather then just getting straight up removed
    I'm hurt a little bit - that a game I like is changing to be more like another one - Somewhat like a friend who's trying to change who they are so they would be accepted by the popular kids who were so mean to them prior
    The meter seems like a interesting idea - I just hope the game is not "Smash Ultimate but with Guilty Gear's meter"

      I understand your point but we have to be honest, a platform fighter has higher chances of dying if they differ from smash by a mile, why? because there is no point of dropping smash ultimate or giving a try to something worse in every aspect, maybe this game will be good and have a larger and committed community

      @@sebastianortega9980 I know, every change here is meant to have the experience be more smooth to those super familiar with Smash. I guess I just wished something else could exist in the space, something that did differ by a mile. Over the years I have grown tired of Ultimate and saw Nick as really fresh, almost as if it evolved from Smash 64 given how DI worked in its early days. It just felt different, goofier of course with double down air and such, but goofy kinda felt right for a Nickelodeon game. I wish different had a chance at surviving - my eyes lit up when I was able to grab someone in the air for the first time, and now that's gone

      I think you're right that Nick felt a lot like an evolved Smash 64. Nick 2 seems more like trying to make it more like Melee but with Guilty Gear mechanics

    nicely made video on the mechanics, all this meter stuff being baked into the core gameplay got me interested in how the game will play not only at a higher level but also at a lower level for someone like me who might totally forget about it lol
    also i really like your own little meter showing how long a section lasts, that's a nice touch 👌

    How I think grabs/throws should work:
    •grabbing and throwing projectiles works exactly the same as the first game
    •grabbing players works the same except you can't run and your jumps are cut I half
    •There are 3 options for throwing players, the light throw, strong throw and special throw, all of which can be angled in any direction avaliable to a control stick.
    •Light throws are typically used for starting combos or as a get off my tool, strong throws are typically kill moves or used to set up a spike, and special throws are a nicher situational tool that can help seperate different characters from eachother.

    The first game was missing depth, even with all the strange mechanics they had. I'm glad they we're able to add depth to 2 by having a meter and having more moves, that's how adding depth should be done.

    The loss of strafe makes me almost certain if any character was cut, it was Catdog. That mechanic was basically what made them so unique in the first place, I can't see them return without it

      Theres now a 4th special button so they might just make neutral special the character swapper if they do come back

    I hope that the bit of slime from being hit is only for shielding a hit
    man, negative penalty would be cool
    I think that super moves will help with the whole casual accessibility thing. If you're bad at getting the small moves in you can still capitalize with big hits every once in a while, and then you get to see the fun cutscenes!
    So THAT'S why Nickelodeon All Star Brawl knockback felt so weird...!

    people asking why non of this cannot but added as an update to the first game.Well here's thier answer.....because they Straight up overhauled most the basic mechanics and movesets. i mean non of it looks like its from the first game in the slightest and im here for it.

    The casual players arent going to be struggling theyll probably just use their meter for supers like casuals do in most fighting games. They will also not play much online outside with their friends. The lower skill players trying to survive online play are the ones who are in for a world of pain tho.

    I mean final smashs are banned, but terrys busterwolf is pretty close in damage, and isnt banned, so if supers are just like terrys go, i dont see it being too much of a problem. I also think that the slime meter will probably somewhat simple/have a tutorial, so it can act like babys first fighting game while still being competitive.

    One complaint I have about a lot of plat-fighters is how hard they try to not be smash. Smash is a fantastic framework to build from, stuff like the heavy attacks , meter, and unique characters is more than enough to make it its own thing without having to go so too far as taking away airdodge or making everyone have a cargo throw. This is only a good thing IMO.

      While I did like how they tried to give the first game its own unique gameplay and mechanics, I also think adding mechanics to Smash's framework is also a good thing to do. So far, I'm really impressed with how the sequel looks.

      exactly, every platform fighter who try to distance from smash by a lot end up dead, why? because you have smash Wich do everything better.
      with this game they are building around smash and adding something new and unique for the genre, giving some incentive to play NASB without losing overall quality, graphics, movement and attack options

    I cant lie, ill miss air dashes. You can use them as a third jump, juke your aerial approaches, and fastfall with vector. Kinda sad but if i can still express with slime we're gonna be okay.

    I feel like the competitive aspect of this game is definitely going to ward off a lot of newcomers and harm the game in the long run. A lot of people playing a game involving nickelodeon characters are probably just looking to play casually, so having so many complex fighting mechanics might seem daunting at first.

    My only problem is that they added back airs which means i can't freely turn around in thy air when i want to, this is da same problem i have with smash n many other platform fighters except PlayStation all stars, i hope da game still has da strafe mechanic n back airs work just like how Hugh uses his back air attack in da 1st game

      @@dylansmith5206 a lot of the roster has been leaked, many new characters and vets returning and it was 95% confirmed by Plankton. However I doubt the splash art is the whole roster bc quite a few staples from the base roster of the first game aren’t on it AND not every character was on the box art of the first game

    Really sad that the Rock-Paper-Sissors trade mechanic was cut. It was one of the things I liked about the first game.

    A beta tester confirmed that ultimates can be blocked and the game is a little slower than nasb1.

      I think if done right, it'll be like fighting game supers where they're balanced enough to play around. They haven't really shown off enough to make a good call on this

      @@NickBrawlGuy yeah that is true. I'm really happy about the grab changes. I felt having a universal grab sounds good on paper but really doesn't balance the game. Some characters need better grabs and throws for combos while others should have worse grabs because they don't need it. That's balance.

    Is anyone on PC willing to help about a beginner? I've had NASB for over a year and wasn't able to find many people to play. I'm used to 2D fighters, not platform fighters. So I'm getting the floor mopped with myself when I try. I played little bit of Melee and Ultimate with a friend who really liked Smash, so I'm familiar with a bit of these types of games. But I have no idea how things like taking turns and combos really work. And forget about landing a kill, I always gotta get the opponent to like 200%.

    i played the first game for a day and i honestly didnt like it, the more complex mechanics and look of the game make me interested in this new one. i think thats a reason why so many characters have new moves and changes

    Not enough characters, it's too simple, characters are too OP, too many mechanics....yall will NEVER be satisfied. This is what kills games instead of embracing what the game does bring
