Yes! Great news, thanks Dave.
Thanks Dave. The video was just what I needed before I get my hands on the BMPCC 4K. I am learning DaVinci Resolve 15 at the moment.
Thanks Dave... great to know :)
thanks, i can't wait to test color grading the new BMPCC 4K
Nice, now to see how ProRes RAW compares in the weeks to come!
You have got to do some tutorials in Resolve! You are by far the best!
This is the start of a new era!
You mentioned the text layers on screw things up. Could you say what it does? Either comment or video? Thanks. Great content as always!
I am not a Resolve expert but what happens when I playback with the titles turned on it starts dropping frames even without color grading. I would think a text layer would add almost 0 to the computer processing since it seems to lightweight of an item. Now if I use a 1080 timeline instead of 4k then it plays back fine.
Thank you.
what about 4.6K URSERS are we getting t Blackmagic RAW in future firmware?
Get a Mini Pro Dave, so we all can get tips ; )
I basically decided on it because of the BRAW (I was worried about the huge file sizes of the Canon C300).
What encloser or disk array are you using nowadays? Sorry if you explained before. I did some similar tests as you, and even on my MacPro 2013, runs pretty smooth (but only if the material is in a SSD)
Thanks for this, Dave. Does this mean you are considering purchase of a BMD camera? 😉
Curtis, are you planning to buy one? what are your thoughts?
Curtis already owns the Ursa Mini Pro, I believe.
I am. I am thinking of selling my a6500 and getting one of these but also get the a7siii when it comes out. The colors look good and l enjoy grading BM Film much better than Sony Slog.
Very cool!
Yes, I have the Pocket 4K on pre-order and currently shoot with the Ursa Mini Pro.
You have your timeline set to 23.976 and these clips, according to the info I'm seeing in Resolve, were shot in 24p. You might want to adjust your preferences. You'll get even smoother playback.
Hey Dave. Is the face refinement tool available in the free version?
great video as usual Dave! and it’s interesting you’re using a PC but you can edit ProRes? I thought it was only for Mac
You can play it but not create it on a pc.
I would like to know your hard drive set up. Do you keep the files on a separate drive? Where do you save your project files and do you keep cache/scratch on a separate drive also? Thank you.
Check out my last computer build call Hal and find the time marker for that discussion. I have many drives.
Do you think this might be a good B camera to my C100?
Ooh
EposVox fancy seeing you here!
Bummer us URSA Mini customers aren't getting it but we have 12 bit prores still 😁
Did you know the compessionrate of the bmd testfootage?
what tool are you using to smooth out the face?
"Face Refinement" tool.
Import your .BRAW directly into Adobe Premiere Pro with our new plugin : Autokroma.com/BRAW_Studio/
That doesn't look smooth when you first play it though. You said no dropped frames, and i can see it isn't freezing up a bunch, but that can't be playing the full frame rate, right?
It is my capture program.
All I have are E-mount lenses for my Sony A7SII and they wont work with the BMPCC4k. Are we getting lenses for the new pocket 4k? Let me know haha.
I should have kept my M43 glass from my old GH4 instead of selling them, this camera looks pretty nice.
@@DaveDugdaleColorado I have no aps-c coverage lenses to adapt with a speedbooster either. I'm not sure if I should get actual MFT lenses or get aps-c and a speedbooster just so I don't need to stand back the full amount needed for a full 2x crop you know...
Veydra makes a line of very nice cine primes for m43 mount. SLR Magic does, too, plus they have some DSLR lenses with FF coverage that should SpeedBoost very well. Lots of choices when you SpeedBoost, as I did on my old original Pocket. I got rid of all that last year, though, so it's going to be a whole new kit for me.
@@genjii931 I ajve a sigma 18-35 1.8, should I get a speed booster or sell and pick up some cine lens? I'd save 799 on the speed booster and could sell my sigma for 400/500. Need some. Help getting. Into video, coming in as a photographer
@@veganchasers2213 If it were me I'd get the speedbooster although that lens might not be the best to manually focus with but I would tolerate it. Speedbooster is expensive but if you love that sigma like a lot of people do, keeping it and using it on different systems is pretty cool.
still not shooting 4K vids!only got the D750 but in march I will order the D850 and sell the D750!a new i7 pc for sure!this old 920 is getting laggy!
920 with a decent gpu is perfect for 1080.
that codec should be in every camera...
more than a codec. the ursa decodes the half the raw in camera to create the codec
I can run these no problem with my old Sandy bridge i7 2600k and my I5 8400h
You are comparing 4k ProRes vs 4.6k BRAW... It 25% BIGGER... So processing the image going to be more intensive. Also, I'm not sure how it work, but I know you can apply a lut by default to the BRAW video as sidecar, so maybe you are applying 2 layer of color correction as well.
I also noticed that there were a lot more masking and keying nodes on the BRAW than the Prores, so that could be slowing it down even more. The prores just looks like it has a lut, color corection and curve adjustment all in one node.
I don't understand what camera is this you showing me
There are many, I’m discussing codecs mostly.
the only gripe is that they all look choppy here on YT, what's the reason for that?
Might be my capture program.
probably, 16 cores is not enough? :D
Also I had mixed frame rates on the timeline.
So basically the same thing as RedCode raw or arriw raw or prores raw... Hmm it's the codec wars all over again, btw CinemaDNG let's you do those things now but it's not meant for more lossy compression on the raw and it isn't a container but hey you can pull out frames with out any need for a program to open up BMD RAW
At least cross platform
So were not gonna talk about that "cleavage-node" ?
So that wasn't ProRes RAW in the comparison?
no
No this is a new Raw format from BM.
Ha! I know it's BRAW. But not comparing it to ProRes Raw seemed a trick missed. Comparing it to ProRes seems pointless. But that's me.
I don't think that comparison can be done yet from the same camera.
Good point. When you get the opportunity to do it I'll tune in :)
Pretty nice isn’t.
Face Refinement tool - BMD added it then abandoned it. Every pro I know tried it and quickly realized that if the face doesn't track, you have to recreate it using power windows anyway - so it is basically a waste of time, til they add the ability to edit the mask. Very frustrating that you can see it on the face and when it tracks off - you can not do anything about it. So wouldn't encourage people to use it. I know it's not what this video is about. If the ProRes is the best for editing then why not just import the BRAW then generate Optimized media( if that is possible) - do all the editing and even the color grading on ProRes, then export the BRAW media? Then you get the best of both worlds.
I have found it tracks 100% of the time if the person is facing the camera like in a interview, so it has been very useful for me.
Well, that is fortunate for you. At some point though, you are going to start grading an interview and after doing several clips - someone will brush their hair away or turn their head and the tacking will go off - at that point you will have to recreate with power windows and blur- midtone detail etc., everything you did in the clips before to match it or live with it. All because (unlike any other tracking in DaVinci) you can not edit or change, keyframes if it loses the tracking. Every pro I know, thought that this plug-in had loads of potential but are waiting til they fix it to be editable, before committing to it in a workflow.
What's black magic raw?
google.com
It's a new recording format that is easy on your computer when editing.

VHS I hate people like you
@@christophershivers6257 i cant stand people like that either, why tf cant you just help someone out if they are trying to learn??
I'm seeing dropped frames everywhere, m8.
Compression and render settings don't do that.
My capture program might.
This isnt 10 bit you liar!
I’m not sure why you are saying that. Are you speaking of my timeline settings?
@@DaveDugdaleColorado No your youtube settings. How can I see the results of hdr if you won't make it in hdr
You know you can download the footage yourself and play with it, then you can see you own results. Then you would not have to worry about UA-cam. Still not sure why you are calling me a liar.
@@DaveDugdaleColorado xd don't worry your videos are much helpful
Does this camera gives more clean and high quality image than a7iii and high end 1dx ii? 😅
