Today on the 1911 Syndicate, Jake and Chris compete in their first shooting match. We shot at the World Pistol Shootout to see how we would do in a competitive shooting environment. The results were.........just watch the video.
Drop your questions below for an upcoming Q&A vid
For Q&A:
1. Why didn’t Chris run his HK P30 in the match?
2. You guys getting the Stealth Arms Platypus for review/testing?
3. Planning to do any pistol suppressor videos?
This is the most relatable video you’ve ever made. I’ve never shot rare HK’s in snowy canyons with drones soaring overhead to make me look bad ass, but I have damn sure failed to engage a target on a USPSA stage. Now let’s get those hit factors up!!
Huge props for doing this. I’ve been competing for a few years now and would be intimidated by these stages. The best way to learn is having no ego and hopefully this will get more people into competition
Right. Then try doing it on camera haha
@@1911syndicate Thanks for showing y’all competing. I have been wanting to compete and it has pushed me over the edge to go ahead and sign up today.
Just started USPSA and Steel Challenge in 2023.
It reminds me of how lost I felt when I started. I knew I was a good shot, but m😊ving and shooting rocked my world. Any great game allows you to compete at the most basic level, then take a lifetime to master.
You guys need to be complemented for having the balls to do this and share with your subscribers. Good job! Monday morning quarterbacks need to remain in the back seat where they are most comfortable.
Haha that’s exactly how we feel about it. Legit our first time ever doing this. It’s vastly different then how we typically shoot 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ we enjoyed ourselves and thank you for being super kind and supportive 👊🏼👊🏼
It’s a risky move but someone gotta do it
Good on you guys for doing this. It will only make you improve every aspect of your shooting. Tactical or competition it's still speed and accuracy.
Agreed man we had a great time
Yes, but people can easily build very bad habits for self-defense
@zack991 I think if you have trouble separating a uspsa match and a defense situation you should train more before you carry a firearm in public.
Respect for going out and doing a sport yall never done. Would love to see how better you guys get if you plan to continue doing it.
Man thank you that’s very kind of you 👊🏼👊🏼
As a local Utah resident I am curious if you guys would be attending or hosting any shooting/range day events. Would be super cool to meet and hangout with you guys!
I think we’ll be at Shootah for about the first half of the day. Maybe a match here and there
Jim's Goon Life. Nice to see other good uploaders in this comp.
You guys should do more of this content. This was great!
Took a 45 min lesson on competitive shooting. It was much harder than I ever expected... I sucked, but did get better towards the end of the lesson......
Right. It’s like speaking a language. Probably not gonna go good on day 1
Honestly taking a lesson on competitive shooting if you never shot it before is a waste of time. I always tell people, they need to drive in head first and just shoot a match for the first time. And when shooting your first match the main thing you should worry about is not breaking any safety rules. Once you start gaining experience, this is where you start to realize what you need to train on and work on. My very first match in 2021 I sucked, didn’t get any kind of lessons or training, dove in head first and placed in the bottom 20%. Fast forward a 1 1/2 years I’m now a master in USPSA and knocking on the door at making GM at 93% (GM is 95%). The hardest part is actually taking that very first step.
I laughed so hard.... "Jake how many people participated? uhhhh 70" . First match and you showed up and didn't get dq. You guys will get better with practice and I think for your first match maybe you should have picked something easier. The courses didn't look easy at all. 👏. But good times either way.
😂😂😂 we had a very good time haha. But yes we were almost dead last 😂😂😂
Mission accomplished no DQ
First off big props for shooting a major as your first match, and not getting DQ’d. My first few months of uspsa I would constantly get ftsa’s. The more you do it, the easier it gets to come up with a stage plan. So glad you guys stepped out of your comfort zone and shot a competition. Hope to see more content like this!
Thanks man. By the end of the day it felt a lot better than the beginning of the day. Apparently this was not an easy match to begin with
Its easy just find the oldest fattest dude there and copy what he does
For Q&A:
1. Why didn’t Chris run his HK P30 in the match?
2. You guys getting the Stealth Arms Platypus for review/testing?
3. Planning to do any pistol suppressor videos?
Keep at it fellas
Thanks dude 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
Thanks for showing us competitions from a beginners perspective. I usually just see dudes ripping through. Coulda used some more rules and regulations but
I always think I'd do well at one of these. It would probably go just like this , hoping at best to not embarrass myself.
I remember my first match lol. I got fckin hammered. You get better as you go. Also i loaded but didn’t chamber one time. Wait til the mag doesnt seat and drops out after you fire. Shooting on the move and reloading under stress is a great training aid. I’m a much better pistol shooter from shooting matches. It develops muscle memory and makes you work harder. Also glad yall didnt DQ on your first match
Magical things happen when the timer beeps. That stress inoculation shakes down your mind, body, and gear. I’d highly suggest trying to find a 2Gun match. They blend in a bit more of the “tactical” side, and stage planning becomes less of a factor.
My attitude when I was shooting these thing is not to let the top guys cut my time in half. Later I worked on getting my times down but never stressed out if I did not keep them from cutting my time in half. You get faster and have more fun just shooting and learning from watching for me.
Definitely should’ve just barrel rolled between the two pipes on that stage.
I’d have to disagree. There will be a lot of competition shooters that will hold their own in a shoot house. Because a lot of us were in the military and started out as tactical shooters.
Tonight on 1911 Syndicate: Jake manages to not remove a hostage target for the first time, Insert Name here confuses the crew, and Chris' ammo as reliable as your hooked on heroin neighbor.......
Baahhaahahah 😂😂😂
Hey that’s true!! I didn’t shoot a no shoot
You shot a match? Now you'll get killed on tha streetz!!
For real, good on you for stepping up to take a match and for taking good lessons from it. I'm also a "tactical shooter" but I shoot matches all the time. Rather than water down my tacticality (that's totally a real word), it has made me faster and more accurate. If I ever have to fight with a gun, I'm sure that the nuts and bolts of marksmanship and gun handling will be more on autopilot thanks to my competition experience, giving me more mental bandwidth to devote to the rest of the "not getting killed" part.
Them streetz ain’t ready
I DQ’d my first comp, yet I learned so much. Totally worth doing regularly if you have a range that offers them
I still have my first stage run ever…boy oh boy did I learn about stress when the beep goes off and upgrading guns that didn’t need upgrading. Looking at you extended mag release 💀 Took a quick screw driver to it to pop off the paddle! “Smooth sailing” from there.
Matches are fun and teach so much! Working my way to A class myself. Looking forward to seeing more of this type of content!
You guys are having fun! And, frankly, encouraging!
Ditto all the other positive comments you've gotten.
Thanks for a great video!
🤙🏻
Hey thank you Ted we appreciate the nice comment and supper and you’re right we had fun which is all that matters
Funny what stress can do to one's shooting skills. I've experienced it in training classes, and it gave me a much better understanding of my capabilities. Kudos to you guys for putting yourselves out there and allowing us to follow your journey.
CONGRATULATIONS to you both for completing your first competition. I know it was hard but it look like you both had fun & here's to many more in the future 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
It’s most def not easy! I tell people all the time it’s a skill set and it’s a ton of thinking.
Ton of thinking. I like to think a viewer could tell the shooting wasn’t the problem. It’s the thinking game of it all
Shoutout to the DFW homies. Jimmy and the squad are good peoples.
Just looking at each stage had be puckered and clenched. Mega Props!
Awesome, no ND or DQ, so thats a win. And not last on your first match!
Right 😂😂😂 as long as I don’t get DQ then it’s a win for me
Kudos to both of you for having the balls to go out to your first match and compete. It is a humbling experience that will serve you will as you continue your shooting journey. Hats off to ya'll.
Question for the Q&A: Given your new experience with shooting competition, how do you compare it to taking a formal pistol class? Which do you think is the greater value for developing pistol competency?
Good question
So proud of you guys for doing this! Can’t wait to see more competition content from you.
Damnit. No one has ever said they are proud of me. 😢😢😢 thanks bro ❤❤❤❤
Massive match for a first try. Great job!
Gingerbread is throwing heat! Good job+
Did my first IDPA 2 gun match last weekend. Lots of fun very challenging, and great people to hang out with. Placed 17th out 30. Now I just have to learn how to game the game better.
Damn bro that’s bad ass. Thank you for watching and commenting Jake and I for sure did not get 17th😂
This is awesome. I approached my first match just about the same, thinking: I just don’t want to be DQ’d, lol. Most important points you mentioned: check your ego, and it’s a great way to test your gear; and then it’ll be a great time. Just about everyone has a good attitude, cheer you on and can be a awesome learning experience. Looking forward to more match footage. 👍
🤙🏻
Yeah I would say shooting fast and accurate goes both competition and tactical, competitive is probably just more target rich and the tactical side also involves using cover effectively and angles too.
I agree 100% with this comment dude. You explained that well thank you for watching and commenting 👊🏼
1 year in and not getting DQ’d is still my main goal lol
It’s funny that for your first match you chose a fairly complicated one with a relatively high round count
😂😂😂 right?
@@Chrisblau hit those local matches so you’re actually competitive and have fun
@@jonnytestnj2668 yeah we’ll see dude. This was a major match so I feel a local non major would be more fun and be more competitive. It’s just the time required man 🤷🏻♂️
holy shtt...this was fkn great...no ego at all. fkn awesome
That was the goal
Stage planning is definitely one of the most important parts of USPSA to master. I heard a GM say he rehearses each stage about 80 times at competition matches. I burn out after about 5 times 😖
Holy shit that’s wild. I guess that what it probably takes to get to that level though right 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
@@Chrisblau “Winners practice until they get it perfect. Champions practice until they can’t get it wrong.”
No kidding. I was done after 2 dry runs haha
Who gets to walk the stage 80 times?
Trying a new sport for the first time, you should expect to get stuffed (I did). And it doesn't matter all that much how much shooting you've done on your own, USPSA is a whole different ball game. Respect for showing up, shooting and posting all your stages, good, bad and ugly.
Hey thank you man that’s what it’s all about and I agree 100% with everything you said. Thanks for the support and thanks for watching
Thanks and as funny as it sounds, add the pressure of filming you first day of a new sport
Good job doing a comp!! It's good to put what you train to practical use. 🤘🤘
I clearly remember my first comp shoot with my only goals being 1. Don't get kicked out for a safety violation and 2. Don't be last. Mission Accomplished! #notlast 😂
Truthfully not getting DQ-ed was the main thing we cared about.
Everyone starts somewhere. I would like to give it a go next winter. I've shot a couple small/local competitions but nothing like you guys did. Great job
Jim's Goon Life sneaking in there. Love the content
Right? He is 2 feet tall and can probably sneak anywhere 😂😂😂 love the guy we were stoked he came out
1. Good on you two for trying it.
2. How the heck did you get this far in life without trying USPSA (or something similar) before now?
3. Keep doing it. It's fun and it will help you continue to build the skills you may need for more serious matters.
4. In the future, consider shooting matches exclusively with your actual carry gear, the way you carry it, regardless of which Division it fits.
music in the intro is lit.
Nice work! I went to my first competition last month and had a blast! Encourage it for anyone who likes to shoot and wants to test or expand their skills.
NGL I thought you guys were way better than you actually are. No offense. It goes to show the power of dressing up tactical and having high quality production. It gives the aura of competency and professionalism.
Lmfao Remember your first match Rambo?
@@roywall5231 I don't blame you for reacting emotionally because you're low IQ and thus naturally defensive. But my original comment really wasn't meant to offend. I was just "thinking out loud". It's just that these guys presented themselves and came across as better shooters than they actually are. Which goes to show the surprising power of media. And I find that pretty interesting so I just typed out my thoughts. Think about how many other youtubers out there make themselves look like legit shooters with good production and angles, but really they're probably missing or getting huge groups. I first came across this phenomenon regarding Instructor Zero who looked amazing in his videos but when I checked his scores he was shooting only at A class level in IPSC.
That's not bad for the first time. TRUST ME.
Haha thanks dude 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
I’ve been shooting competition for 5 or 6 years now doing a sport called SASP (basically steel challenge for kids) and I love it
I really enjoyed this, definitely looks like a challenge
Much props for bringing this content to the channel. Really feel competing & tactical shooting have more in common then realized!
Agreed man they also have major differences and I see the value in knowing and understanding both 👊🏼👊🏼
@@Chrisblau 👊 🥃
Thanks for putting this out guys. This was great content.
No thank you Thomas 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
I've always been in the tactical camp, but I shot my first uspsa match recently and man it was humbling haha I had 2 FTSAs and 2M on a cover target. I ran it with my edc and from my appendix rig from concealment so I was just out to have fun, but it definitely gave me the competition bug. Great video guys!
I understand the whole “not pointing your gun at those watching” but why trading and force people to Cary and move in such an unusual/ unnatural/ awkward manner? Why not just temple index while moving?
This is a great video.
If you think you're a good shooter, go to a match you'll get humbled. If you don't think you're a good shooter, but you want to get better, go to a match. Everyone will be willing to help you and you'll figure out what you can do to get better.
Hats off to you gentlemen! Great video, great match!
The first match I ever did I got 14/25 and it was a 2 gun match. The hard part about that match was they had a 5 dinner plate healing targets, which if you didn't hit correctly the round would go straight through or would rebound the target.
I think you guys would really like IDPA competitions. Would love to see a video of you guys doing that
I’ve been looking to getting into this. Loved this video. You can tell you guys were shooting better and better as you went. Great job guys
They should make some augmented reality device to wear to help move through the course.
Y’all would probably classify as high c class (maybe low b) which isn’t a bad place to start. Keep shooting more matches and you’ll find your tac shooting will improve also.
The way I see them in a match it’s looking more like D level. Static shooting maybe C but not B. Currently I’m a B and it took a year to get there
@@ikeo1 almost all classifiers tell you exactly how you have to shoot the stage though so they’d be considered static which made me come to my conclusion.
@@ikeo1 D class stage planning with high C, low B shooting.
Nice job gentlemen, if you want more tactical side, try IDPA
Y'all rock for doing a USPSA style match. I'm coming from IDPA, and these USPSA stages are crazy complex! I thought I was the only one who "forgets" targets! "Buzzer Brain" is a real thing!...Your stage plan goes right out the damn window! Beating young "techies" who've been playing first-person shooter games since birth...is NOT a thing! LOL.
🍻
First couple of minutes was my first match too, lol. The shooting is the easy part, the hard part is doing the course properly
I went watch my first local match two weeks ago to get an understanding of what, when, and how. Glad to see this content. I’ve been to several top tier pistol classes but never have done anything like this. I’m just looking to find interesting ways to shoot the guns I own like you did here.
Hell yeah dude. Hope you get in to it. I’m still thinking about getting into it a little more but we’ll see
Any plans you make completely go away as soon as that shot timer beeps.. good on you guys for giving competing a try.
What everyone else said! Well done guys.
Hey thank you Rick that’s very kind of you 👊🏼👊🏼
Nice seeing this type of content. Bridging the two sports will eventually come. The hard part is determining score since slow is better in tactical vs fast in uspsa.
I couldn’t agree with you more due that’s exactly how I feel. Thanks for watching man we had a great time
How is slow better in tactical? It's the still the first good hit on target wins. Acceptable accuracy, the fastest. Just because you move slower doesn't mean "slow" is the goal. They are different skills, flowing through and around positions of cover on the tactical side, patrolling and such, vs agility and pure weapon handling on the USPSA side, but in the tactical world once it's time to make things go boom the entire point is to get the hit that counts before the other guy. In other words...acceptable accuracy, the fastest.
This is the excuse every tac timmie makes...that and the "bad habits" killed in the streets mouth diarrhea. Tactics is IS NOT sport, but the sport side of shooting makes you better in every area of tactical shooting since you take those developed skills (agility, gun handling, manipulation, etc) into "the fight" with you.
@@benjaminlanzotti1374 watch combat footage of a gun fight then watch a competition. The two are not the same. Stuff crosses over for sure and fast and accurate is fast and accurate. Comps will obviously make you a better shooter. Tons of for we mil guys shit and train both and they even mention his some guys were good in a combat scenario but melt down at a comp and some are good at comps and average in combat.
@@Chrisblau LoL are you serious? One...I don't have to watch anything. I served...and taught marksmanship to warfighters LITERALLY. On and off deployments. I've lived "combat footage" and know the difference.
I never said they were the same...did you even read my comment? "Slow" is a manner of approach...of course it's going to be slower since we aren't on the flat range anymore. You are MOVING DIFFERENTLY, with a totally different perspective.
My entire point is that shooting competition regularly gives you a better skillset that you TAKE INTO that different approach, IE when it's time to shoot and make things go boom you are more capable in almost everything that matters outside the specifics of your TTPs.
"Slow is better in tactical" is not an actual point...which is why I replied to the guy. The tactical approach IS SLOWER, but that's a result of the approach, not the point or goal.
Competition gives you a MORE CAPABLE tactical shooter period. A seasoned competitor is going to a better gun handler in the majority of circumstances, and produce acceptable accuracy, faster. That is the goal of a winning competition shooter...and it's the point of gunfighting. Acceptable accuracy the fastest.
@@benjaminlanzotti1374 you are 100% correct I misunderstood your comment. I agree with what you said and my bad for misunderstanding 👊🏼
Looks like a fun day with a good group of guys.
That’s what it is all about at the end of the day isn’t it 👊🏼
Great Video Guys! Question: MPX vs B&T ?
Awesome job! Love how you just put everything in. If that was your first match, you guys did great. I chose bowling pin matches to start. You guys just jumped in with both feet.
Hey thank you dude that’s very kind we had a great time and really enjoyed ourselves. 👊🏼👊🏼
No guts no glory amigo
Would not need a heavier contour to thread the barrel, just a wider diameter at the muzzle.
Not many other ways to get experience operating under pressure.
Yep, when the timer goes beep, uhh plans sometimes go out the window. Did I shoot that target? I can't remember, shoot it again. Damn it it's got 4 holes.
Hahaha truth
😂😂😂 exactly dude
Sad, it seems the thread I responded to stating publicly available information from the individual himself is no longer here. Not sure why a criticism of someone not related to the channel needed to be deleted.
We don’t delete anything dude he might have reported the comment or somthing 🤷🏻♂️
Serious question. Not trying to sound like a jerk. Why did you guys not run the kit I usually see you running? Looks like you jumped all in on the USPSA style belt and kit. Wouldn’t you want to use what you are most familiar with?
I used all of my normal stuff. Chris ran a competition rig because it’s the only thing he could run that fit the gun he had that day
You need to step up to 3 gun guys! IPSC is the best way to improve your handgun skill set, period. 10 stages is HUGE, was that over 2 days?
One day dude. It was a very long day 😂😂😂
I'd love to try this!
Do it 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
Is it me or were your Infinitys malfunctioning Way more than $$$$$-priced guns should be??
Ferraris take more maintenance then a Honda civic. Gun was shot a lot the day before and I should’ve cleaned it 😓😓
Gun cleanliness seemed to create issues with reliability (or maybe it was ammo, I don’t shoot competition). I don’t see you guys as slobs with your guns, so I would love to know how dirty they were going in.
Yeah gun was just dirty man 🤷🏻♂️ also that gun is brand new and I don’t know if there is a break in period I should’ve asked infinity that but it was just dirty. I should’ve taken it apart after the day before and the rounds it had on it but I didn’t 🤷🏻♂️😓 if I remember correctly it smooths out and stops having issues after stage 3 or so?
At least you have belts, my first match was out of pocket😂
Also the only person I was worried about beating was my buddy… which I did.
Did you figure out why you had light strikes, and will you do more comp video’s in the future? I really like match videos
Gun was dirty my fault for not cleaning it. Didn’t think it would matter and came back to bite me in the ass. The day before we put a shit ton of rounds through that pistol
Ok. You didn’t finish as you had it pictured in your minds eye.
But how many Women and Paraplegics finished ahead of you?
(I ask because the answer to that question at MY first major Match was; several. It was motivation to get serious with it.)
Great attitude Chris!
Helpful hints:
MOVE with purpose
STOP over-refining sight picture/shots
HAVE A PLAN, BEFORE you get inna box
Dude thank you for the tips it’s seriously appreciated. The refining the sight picture clearly slows me waaaay down
Yo I love you’re channel 😆 you funny as hell 😆
Good on you guys! I remember back when I shot competition it does take it out of you.
Especially this one. 10 stages, 350 rounds
At 12:32, what electric ear pro is that? What thigh rig are you wearing? For the longest time, I thought having a holster which has a strap around your leg was banned.
Sordin behind the neck model. It’s a safariland rig for the thigh
These are some tricky stages
Clearly far to complicated for me 😂😂😂 Jake performed much better
Seemed like a lot of malfunctions???
Showed up with an Infinity and a Jersey
It’s how we roll
I subscribed to your channel and happy I did! Congratulations on competing in your first match. Do you have details on the guns you shot in this match? Ammo?
Competition makes you better. It's alot of fun, and good training. You go out there and have fun. You guus should do some level 1 matches to get going and learn how to read a stage. I've only been doing for a couple of years , and that was the big learning curve for me. It's so much fun, and you get to meet and hangout with like minded people. I would love to see you guys do more. I liked watching it.
Come join us in Salt lake at the big salty. Twice a month!
👍🏻👍🏻
Recently shot my first match, though IDPA, and I am hooked.
It’s not only a great way to test the shooting skills, but the mental and physical side too
