- Went off-roading in July 2018 at the Cliffs Insane Terran was loads of fun in. This was some highlights of our day's adventure. Hope you enjoy and if you have any other questions that the video doesn't cover make sure to comment below and I would be happy to answer.

I just got one for 250. It came with 3inch lift. All it need was tune up and battery.

Great seeing XJ’s out on the trails. Just found your channel. I subscribed!! My thumbnail is my 96 XJ, frame stiffeners, long arms, fox shocks, coil springs in the rear 8.8 rear axle with e-locker, 35’s, cage, winch, bumpers, lunch box locker up front, and a Dana 30 because apparently I like breaking and changing axles on the trails 🙄. Lots of lights and light switches ha!

Ive had 4 jeeps now, 1 wrangler and 3 xj cherokees, first things ive always done before any other upgrades is a nice aluminum radiator and an lsd in the rear axel. It always blows my mind when guys spend thousands on upgrades and tires but not 300-400 bucks on an lsd or locker
I had to make tire and suspension upgrades because of a popped tire and busted leafsprings on a YJ before it was even a year old. It flexed noticeably better than showroom with the trackbars removed, brakehoses relocated, anti-swaybar disconnected, and leaf pack clamps opened. 30" mudders and modulating the parking brake allowed it to accompany many locked rigs on trailruns just fine.
It also needed lockable storage right away because the neighborhood around my school was sketchy. I put in several Tuffy boxes and an alarm in the first year of ownership.
I threw a grille screen, hitch, and roofrack on it right quick too, because I do things other than offroad.
IMO, a come-along or a winch should also come before lockers, but I don't hate on locked rigs that need a strap or winching now and then.
@@RKmndo dont take my comment the wrong way. I wasnt talking crap. My opinion is coming from a viewers point of view. I see so many videos of off road rigs with 10 grand in upgrades, but still have open diffs. Obviously a winch is great, but aren't always an option to use, and can be very dangerous. Ive had stock height locked diff Cherokee's out perform friends open diff jeeps or trucks with lifts and 35 inch tires. Its just personal preference
@@RKmndo i also used to try the e-brake trick, but it isnt as effective as many people think. Your adding the same amount of resistance to both tires by applying the e-brake, but the tire in the air still has less resistance than the grounded tire and the one in the air will power right through it effectively doing nothing. On my first ever trail rig, i mad a bracket to mount a second e-brake handle from the junk yard, got a second cable, and had 1 e-brake for each rear tire. Whichever tire came off the ground, id lock that brake up and send all power to the tire on the ground. Just an old-school tip for ya

My XJ came with LSD in the rear. I think it was stock.

Elliott's Outdoor Adventures Yeah we are from SE Wisconsin. When we offroad in Wisconsin it's usually up north on the pipeline or the nicolet national forest.
OutJeeping ya I heard of the pipeline but heard it wasn’t that good anymore....some of the trails got shut down, have you been up there recently
Elliott's Outdoor Adventures I was up there 2 months ago and you really got to know the area to find good spots. My grandpa lives up there so he knows where to go. But yeah alot of the line is closed or just to deep to make it through. Some spots have hard bottoms and others you sink right down in the sandy soil and get water in your floor like I did lol.

Well he had more momentum and brand new mud tires at the time so that would explain it.

Just a casual observation... it doesn't look like you are aired down enough. I just don't see very much bulge on those tires.
Jason Guyton I only went down to 20psi and the others were down to 15. I didn't want to go too low because we didnt air up till we drove 3 hours home.
Gotta make sure you have a good bulge showing. 😉👍

winch line dampeners don't do shit , Just watched a video on dampener tests they fling as far as lines with out , so do synthetic ropes at least a rope won't take your head off. Usually.

You'll get there one day, I started out at 15 with my jeep going one piece at a time with a part time job at the grocery store.

Sean Unrein what jeep are you trying to lift? 2" budget boosts are really cheap and installation is pretty easy, and you can add upgrades as you go from there, plus holidays are coming up, could ask for a $100-$200 lift kit.

All of yall need new tires i could take a civic through them trails. Or i could creep my sas liberty though them. But none the less entertaining to watch while my jeep sits parked for the winter.
The mud at this offroad park is very different from anything else. It's very thick, slick and full of clay. Don't matter what type of tire you have, they will fill up the treads instantly.
Some of the lines being chosen are really bad, because if you were on your own you'd be in trouble. Sorry, all I see is a bunch of dudes trying to prove a point and abusing their rides! This video is hurting my balls!
No point in off roading to baby it. Mine was the white one. Saw a big hole and hit it because the trail was blocked but went for it anyways

ZJ is much more better than XJ, from all points of view; more comfortable, more powerful ...... ; but in USA the most are crazy for XJ; I don't know why ! Can you explain to me this matter ?

Mostly just rust issues and possibly anything sketchy that the previous owner may have done.

The new hurricane mopar engine is very similar to what you are describing except it's a 3.0L I believe.

I’m doing an xj build, how necessary are frame stiffeners for the unibody?
If you do a lot of rock climbing or plan to keep your Jeep for a long time I would highly recommend them. Otherwise with the unibody twisting many times over obstacles they can create stress fractures.
Where are the cliffs? What is the purpose of having the hood popped to the first stage?
The Cliffs Insane Terrain is located in Marseilles, IL. Hood was popped for cooling to prevent heat soak on the trails.

Looks like a great time! My only thing is - I was always taught not to hook a winch to a strap - the strap is a common point of failure, and if that thing snaps.....game over

Hey guys..love my cherokee. Am looking for another but few are for sale. Seeing a lot of grand Cherokee with the 4.0L, but never really paid attenton to the grand other than they had problems with the v8. Any downfalls with the 4.0 in the grand? Do they have the same troubles and such as the cherokee? Any advice is appreciated.

On harder obstacles we were in 4L.
@@OutJeeping why not 4L in all obstacles? I'm just curious. I have a Grand Cherokee 98.
Some obstacles require more wheel speed especially in the mud. I should say at a park like this most of the time we were in 4L. But if there is some distance of light trails we were in 4H or 2H.
If your ZJ has a 6 cylinder, you're doing it wrong.
But a 4.0 will most likely out live the v8's that came in the zj's
@@OutJeeping well cause the 4.0 barely makes enough power to move itself, let alone hurt itself lol. All jokes aside they're all stout engines that will take a good beating.
@@elpatas2594 Well alot of it has to do with gearing to, a 4.0 with 3.55 gearing with 33's can be pretty sluggish but while in 4 low it's still got some balls

@@OutJeeping That's so awesome!! I have a 99 xj, bone stock, and I've only been stuck 1x....Literally bogged down in a swamp cause my buddy didn't take it with enough speed. Took an hour of rockin, but it got out under its own power. Been in love with her ever since!

Mid Texas is a great place literally no rust just sun damage on clear coat super simple fix
You can find rust free ones in Wisconsin for around 3k pretty easily
