@craigpawalawski4232 It didn't look effortless, the second rep slowed a top towards lockout and a slight hitch. All these things contribute to what somebody might hit peaked. I don't think 505kg is on the cards for him but I'd love to see it. Hicks is a great bloke.

@@craigpawalawski4232 I think a real tragedy is the fact that Thor could legitimately put it out of reach if he really peaked for it in the next year or two. I really want to see it. But I'd certainly agree a freak like Mitch is definitely capable of a 500kg deadlift at some point for sure. But I don't think anybody has the capability of beating Thor, IF he hits his potential. He very well might focus on other things and miss his chance. It could happen.

@@giovannicupello1977 Not really. It could have been any weight, his dad was the one checking the weights, on their own scale. Then he immediately retired so no one would call him out on it in a future competition. Now that he´s back he better pull it for real or always be the guy who didn´t do it for real (real means in a competition, under pressure with properly calibrated weights and impartial judges).

    • @scottanderson7454

@@sgthl well for one it was literally the same judge (magnus ver) who Giants live use, two it was quite literally weighed on camera (unlike any before seen record)- if you want to argue confirmation bias because of it being his dad, Eddie has a stake in Giants live and therefore was business partners with those most invested in seeing a 500kg deadlift..
Thors event was sponsored by rogue, and hosted by WUS who were a legitimate promoter at the time- they similarly hosted Maddox for the 800lb bench attempt, both stoltmans, heinla, riannon lovelace etc.. so unless you are implying ALL of them used fake weights because it wasn't 'in competition' then I am not sure how your argument makes sense.
Thor has also shown many many times how good of a deadlifter is in competition, with his world records (raw) in the elephant bar, and some great performances at previous dl champs, giants live shows and worlds so again not sure why an athlete of his calibre would fake a lift he was going to do at a comp prior to covid anyway.

    • @Gndlf_TheOrange

@sgthl that's such a daft argument. Nobody realistically argues whether it weighed 501kg, they literally unwrapped each plate and weighed them live on camera for everyone to see. The argument is more the conditions and whether it counts if you're doing it on your own, in your gym.

Eddie made history but his repetitive cringing not being able to digest that it was broken by a stronger man made me despice the guy. After Hafthor smashed him in the ring, I threw his autographed book in the trash and started watching Hafthor's content backwards from the 501. It was infact after Hafthor broke the record, Eddie and Giants live released the fake video, trying to discredit the lift and framing him to be a bad sport. The more I saw from Hafthor, the more I realized how wrong I was about the whole thing. In my eyes, Hafthor's 501 is the world record and the debates around it will only last a little more. He will take the record to an unreachable territory to everyone else except him. Good luck Hafthor I know you will do it!

@william_f_beedle18 dude, records are meant to be broken. Tell me a single strongman record that has stood more than 10 years? Thor and Eddie are not fond of each other, and there is nothing wrong with that. Eddie became the first human to prove this was possible. Before 2016, no one thought this was even possible. Why didn't Thor break it a week after Eddie, but it took him 4 years to only add 1kg while Eddie was 35kg to prove humans could lift half a ton? Think about that. Say what you want about a boxing match one opponent took it very serious and the other didn't and underestimated the opponent; also about Giantslive et al, records are meant to be broken and at the moment Thor is the best deadlifter alive period but that does not diminish Eddie deadlift achievement in anyway

Hafthor was doing full shows unlike Eddie. Also, he was doing full shows when he broke the record also. He won the Arnolds 7 weeks before the 501. Hafthor's 31 international competition wins versus Eddie's 1 is clear proof of this.
