- A West German Graetz X50 Geiger Counter/Radiation Dose Rate meter.
This measures beta and gamma rays with it's internal GM tube and can read Alpha, Beta and Gamma radiation with it's external probe which plugs into the side.
This meter reads from 0-50 Roentgen and can measure in the milliroentgen range. One of the best of the Cold War counters I have come across yet in terms of utility and size.

I have bought a geiger counter once. A cheap diy one. Altough it only really detected high radiation doses. It broke though, and i wasnt going to use a geiger counter that only detects actual worrying doses, so i threw it in the trash.
The Chinese ones are getting pretty good that are around $40.

Liam, I think you need to take precautions - gloves and mask when using your smoke detector source. That one is very strong.
It's an alloy not a dusty material like radium.
But yeah I do use gloves when handling rocks, radium painted dials etc.

Hey, question in regards to pen dosimeters. A bit ago someone sold me a polish DKP-50 charger with a MOD charging device and I’m wondering if that should be working as I haven’t seen the marker line move outside of resetting. I’m wondering if it’s broken or just not noticeable and if I need to get a new dosimeter pen?
It might be the pen is broken, if it fits fine and charges you should as you adjust the dial see the line, I do have some pen dosimeters though where the line/fibre is really faint and hard to see.
@@Weaponsandstuff93 I can see the line move when zeroing but outside of that it doesn’t move afterwards. Even after longer periods.
Reminds me of the F&H FH 40 T …
I think that was the previous model of West German dosimeter, basically this but a bit bigger I think.
