It sounds like a song from the 70's because it IS a song from the 70's, 1977 to be exact. A lot of couple slow danced to this one. Johnny's voice was very familiar to me because I had grown up listening to "Secret Agent Man", "Poor Side of Town", and his other big hits. I love the sound of the crickets in the background!
It’s great to hear this again. Johnny Rivers had a lot of great hits. Saw him in concert about 10-12 years ago and he put on a great show and sounded fantastic. Thanks Craig for your request and thanks Harri for your reaction. Yeah, it is from the 70s. Beautiful! 👏👏🇨🇦
Beyond Rivers' amazing career as a performer and songwriter, it was his contributions in the business side of the industry that burnishes his legend. His record company Soul City Records signed The 5th Dimension, launching their hit-making career. He gave Jimmy Webb his first break by having The 5th Dimension record his "Up Up and Away." He also connected Webb to Glen Campbell with "By The Time I Get to Phoenix" and Laura Nyro to the 5th Dimension with several songs including "Wedding Bell Blues" and "Stoned Soul Picnic." Truly a giant in music in the 60s and 70s. Thanks Craig and Harri.
Originally done by The Funky Kings in 1976, Johnny released this cover version in 1977. This was his last top 40 hit in the US and his 2nd gold record. Reached Number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100's and Number 3 in Canada. Johnny's vocals are so beautiful, with heavenly harmonies, the violins and orchestral backing just an amazing addition. This was pumped out of my transistor and absolutely warmed my heart back then. A great time.Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Craig. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Johnny unfortunately became a forgotten singer I rate him as a great singet thankfully reactions from you Harri and others are shining a light on his great singing and songs.
When I was a kid my dad would sit by our enormous stereo console (it was the 70s) with a glass of bourbon and listen to Johnny Rivers and Elvis. This songs brings back sweet memories of him.
Song written by Jack Tempchin, who also wrote Peaceful Easy Feeling and Already Gone by the Eagles. He also co-wrote a lot of Glenn Frey’s big hits of the 1980’s.
Johnny Rivers is a top notch musican.. I've seen him live. He's a total pro. He's decent guitar player too. He played on guitar on the songs leads and all. He has many hits.
Harri, this is a favorite of the Carolina Beach Music Festival crowd and in the beach clubs. I think you would like the music of General Jackson and Chairmen of the Board, the Embers, the Fantastic Shakers, Band of Oz, The Tymes,, The Entertainers, The Tams, The O'Jays, and so many, many more. Lots of horns and saxophones in beach music. I really think you would enjoy this type of music, the groups and songs.
Special in my heart, and I will tell you why. My late girlfriend and I met late in life. We were in our late 50's and she had hip replacement on both sides, she was upset because she grew up a dancer won awards but she couldn't dance for me and that upset her so much 😢. Once we sat on our couch, then I got up and dimmed the lights. I put this song on then got up and said Dance with me lover, I held her close and just slowly moved, she cried. I said i love you Dannie Jo .We were to be married 7-4-23 on her birthday, but I lost her 3-26-23. I hold this memory until I'm with her again. I love you Dannie Jo.❤❤
We saw him in concert about 10 years ago. It will always be one of my favorite concerts ever. All the classic songs that the whole audience knew. Great night.
johnny rivers had some great original songs, but he was also great at covering other artists' songs. i always liked johnny's songs. he was an anomaly during the british invasion hippie sixties.
Craig - I haven't heard this in quite a while and it immediately came back to me. A sign of a great enduring singer Johnny Rivers. Well done Craig and Harri.
So nice to hear this song again! So sweet and pure. Was very young when this came out; never knew who did it or much of the song beyond the chorus; loved really listening to this through for the first time with you, Harri! 😊
Another artist I grew up with. Johnny could sing different genres of music including pop, folk, blues & rock 'n' roll. He had a lot of hits during the 60's-70's such as "Memphis", "Maybelline", "The Seventh Son", "Secret Agent Man", "Summer Rain", "Midnight Special", "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" etc.

Thanks for the info on Mr. Rivers, I knew about his hit songs but was not aware of those things he did behind the scenes.
Always loved the song Rockin Pneumonia & The Boogie Woogie Flu too!🎶
Nice review Harry. Even though this song came out 46 years ago, it remains a timeless classic. It has held up well through the many years.

He was just sooooo HOT! I remember dancing to this with my soon-to-be husband. It felt like he sang it just for us.

Our wedding song, many years ago
Johnny's Cover of Chuck Berry's " Memphis" is Awesome Harri, you should try that one. He was very popular ❤
Probably the most underrated singer/ songwriter of the entire Rock & Roll era.

I'm not sure that there's any way to go wrong when it's Johnny Rivers! Love him and your reaction!

Not a bad song in his catalog. You can't go wrong with anything he recorded. He's still performing to this day.

Hello Harri; Please react to " Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu " by Johnny Rivers. Very good song, I think you will like it.
Johnny Rivers' music is timeless. I suggest never playing this song when you're along in pain from losing your lady. It brings so many tears.
Great reaction Harri. !
Jonny Rivers was from Puerto Rico
Pretty song
This was a wonderful request Craig. It’s a favorite of mine. Harri did a great reaction too🌺
Thanks!
Thank you John 🖤✌🏾
Lights go way down at the roller skating rink and time to go around a few times arm and arm with your girlfriend.
Have you done anything by Tommy James and the Shondells "Hanky Panky" "I think we're alone now" "Crystal blue persuasion" "Crimson and clover"
❤😊👍
So beautifull !!

johnny rivers covered songs better than the originals. don't know how he did it.
Find it sad that these younger people involved in music have never heard so much of the 70s music. Johnny Rivers was far from a one hit wonder
Another great Johnny Rivers song is "Secret Agent Man" - ua-cam.com/video/6iaR3WO71j4/v-deo.html
Wasn't that song nice to sway slowly to?
