Aloha sister, nice to hear from you. It took me three tries to capture the sound of the autoharp in a way the conveyed its magic. Luckily I got three tunes in the can so we'll get to enjoy some more of those flying fingers. Fran
I'm just flabbergasted at how he plays so many chords to complete the music which he is playing. Not just the chords, but the strings that make the sound of how the song/music is supposed to be heard. Amazing! I thoroughly enjoy watching him play the autoharp, and I make sure that the volume is up higher than it should be because I want to hear the chords he's playing distinctly. Beautiful! Mahalos for being so gifted.
Beatrice, your enthusiasm makes me smile. I know just how you feel even though I don't play autoharp, because I study Led's guitar playing just like you study his autoharp playing. Fran
I'm looking forward to dualing autoharps between the two of you--that would truly be something to behold. Really nice performance Led--you gave the harp-playing angels in Heaven a run for the money. Also, belated Happy Birthday to you Led! Fran, I enjoy listening to your smooth, gentle playing style--thanks for making this top notch entertainment available--this performance is bookmarked and Liked!
I hate to disappoint someone who spends the time to leave such a generous comment, but I don't expect to ever pick up an autoharp, especially not when Ledward is in the room. His playing is so amazing that I can barely keep my mind on the guitar part I'm trying to play. Fran
Mahalo for your comment, very interesting. Are you thinking of the feeling of leaving Honolulu? Or have you heard the song in the airport? As you may know, the song is about leaving Honolulu, but on a ship rather than an airplane. I think the song was written before the first airplane flew! Fran
Thank you, David, nice to hear from you again. Sadly the trip is drawing to a close, but I do have a few more videos to work on and I might even catch one more before we go. Fran
Hi, Brian. Our "arrangements" usually just flow out of the moment, with occasional looks and nods to try to communicate where we're going. We're both amazed when we end together (grin). Are you doing overdubs of your songs or do you have a group you record with? Fran
@@franguidry I think you and Led are on the same wavelength musically. The arrangements do sound natural and I can notice the communication between you. It’s a gift! You can see how much you both get from playing together. Fran, I would really like to thank you for listening to my music. I’m an amateur musician with a big interest in folk and roots music. It’s what lead me to your beautiful music. I played professionally many years ago but only for friends, social gatherings and the occasional jam session now. I love recording music so all my songs are overdubs. I play all the instruments and use virtual drums if needed. I never try to record a song to sound the same as the original, it just doesn’t work for me. I record the basic song with voice and guitar and go from there. I’ll try different things and hope for the best. They never turn out how I think they will and I’m always amazed that they they usually work out!
That is some sweet playing you two make together, always brings a smile to my face…. I appreciate all the extra detailed recording notes you add , some day I’ll put that knowledge to use😁🤔 Someday I hope my garage music sounds that great! 😊
One of the secrets to getting good recordings is to record a lot and not show anybody the bad stuff (grin). This was my third or fourth try at capturing the sound of the autoharp, but the result made it all worth it to me. Fran
Wow, just Wow. Have Led playing Autoharp on one of my CDs, think it is Waltz of the Wind, not sure. You both surprise me every time you put a video up Fran, you both have many fans, this old'n included.
So nice of you, Graham. I feel really fortunate to be able to capture some of Led's magic to share. I've seen Led play autoharp before, but this new one really lets him take off, and he obviously enjoys it a lot. Fran
That garage has seen a lot of great music over the years. Have you seen the PBS Hawai`i Na Mele show with Led and his sisters? www.pbshawaii.org/na-mele-traditions-in-hawaiian-song-ledward-kaapana-and-family/ In the garage, actually the garage extension under the tarp, pouring rain, camera set up next door and shooting through the hedge! Unreal! Fran
Thanks for visiting and taking a moment to comment. There are more videos of Led and his autoharp playing, I hope you find and enjoy them as well. Fran
Good thing, because no matter how hard I try I can't stop getting older! I thought Ledward would catch me some day, but I'm always two years older every year! Fran
@@franguidry Aloha, FranG. If it's fun for you, can you imagine me on the computer ... raising the volume higher in order for me to catch all his fingering, his finger nails playing the strings! Just beautiful. I have to play my autoharp with 5 picks ... one for each finger/thumb ... I just love playing my autoharp. It's old; worn out, but still can make the music for me to sing along with. I really enjoy playing my "old" autoharp out in the yard, catching the makai breezes to keep cool. Oh, how wonderful to reach 90 and still enjoy all my learned music from whenevers.... so lucky to have you guys play the music I love. Aloha/Mahalo.
Mahalo that was beautiful. Makes me want to get my autoharp out and tune the blasted thing. Led your's is beautiful. It looks like Koa to me. When are you two going to put out a video together. You are both wonderful. Much aloha Sandi In Oakland
Aloha, Sandy. Led's auto harp has a wood veneer but it is structurally made of carbon fiber. He loves it because it holds tune so much better than his wooden ones. Your comment indicates that you can sympathize with his experiences with wooden autoharps. Imagine flying around the country and trying to keep it in tune - oh my! Fran
I was planning to shoot with the garage as the background but Ledward suggested bringing some of his potted palm trees over to form a backdrop and I must say his idea worked wonderfully. Fran
Wishing my uncle could've played alongside w/Led. He also could play kiho'alu, beside autoharp....& he had Killah le'o ki'e ki'e!...A-L-O-H-A, uncle Henry!
Yes indeed, another added to his collection of conquered instruments. I asked him if the uncle that inspired him to learn the instrument played like that or if Led added his own stuff - naturally he is adding to what he learned and making his own special sound. Fran
