I was tearing up too. And also nodding at her every word because she felt every single thing I felt, which is the best thing about books, honestly. Sending you both a big hug!
"You can't love someone out of depression." 100% yes - same for anxiety. My abusive ex got so mad that my anxiety and depression didn't just disappear when he came along.
*Me:* I'm okay owning ONE copy of Wayward Son. It's an alternate edition with cool art inside and I need to buy a copy of Carry On with the illustrated cover anyway so they match, I'm saving money for once, I- *Kat:* Hey did you know this dark blue edition exists? *Me:* Well fuck, where's my wallet?
I was listening to the audiobook of Wayward Son and didn't know that I was already at the end. So you can imagine my reaction when it suddenly was over!
Wayward Son was an emotional rollercoaster. I just finished and feel slightly bruised. Despite Baz's sometimes questionable dinner choices, I enjoyed the heck out of it.
I added so many books to my tbr from this video! I'm so here for f/f enemies to lovers!!! Also your thoughts on/reaction to Wayward Son are so exactly like mine, all the way down to the "this kind of reminds me of a Rick Riordan novel" bit lol. I may have started crying a little while watching this. I totally understand not being able to make a full review
Ninth house is amazing! It has many triggers (which are all over goodreads) but they’re not there just to be there, there’s reasons for it. Leigh Bardugo did an interview about this and people have whole essays on goodreads about it but my point is- don’t read it if you’re triggered by those things but if you aren’t, they are well done (in my opinion.) the audio book is also amazing!
Yay I'm so happy you loved Wayward Son! Carry On is one of my top 3 favorite books and I pretty much had the same feelings as you about Wayward Son. Also, I have you beat... I have 5 versions including the kindle book and audiobook :)
Ok I rly need to order that novella. Also I had a feeling that was the general tone of Wayward Son which is why I’ve been hesitant to start it but it also sounds rly rly beautiful. LOVED THISSSSSS❤️
just wanted to come back and let you know that i checked out this is how you lose you lose the time war and read it in one sitting! thank you so much for recommending it, I would never have found it without you!
Thank you very much for getting me to buy Wayward Son. Not at all what I usually read. A YA fantasy road trip. Ummm no, thanks. But hearing you talk about the mental health aspects of the relationship arc made me buy it yesterday and I read it all in one go and will be picking up the first book tomorrow. Goodness me, what a ride. And I hear you on hitting close to home.
for years everyone has wanted vampires, except agents and publishing houses - I love that Renee Adieh and Jay Kristoff are bringin' it back mainstream.
First of all, I just read Wayward Son like a week and a half ago (because my Barnes and Noble order got cancelled 3 weeks after it came out and a day before it was suppossed to arrive (which was horrible by the way) so it was a mess to ordered another one) and I think I was kinda in denial because it is just now that I'm starting to look for reviews and stuff and that's something i usually do right away... Second... I just felt so connected to your opinion because I really didn't know what to think. I've been watching you fangirl over this book since I read it a couple of years ago and I really had to know your thoughts on this one because I couldn't make up my mind. I cried a lot in the first chapters because all I want for them is to be happy and the fact that they love each other so much but either of them wants to say anything to upset the other not knowing that it is destroying the both of them just really broke my heart. Then the rest of the book felt like I was just expecting for something to happen that we never got and I got into it knowing there was gonna be a third one but still it just didn't happen. Maybe it was because we were expecting just cute moments for Simon and Baz but I think it is what made me love it more after I finished it because it is not just a cute relationship but a very real one and I just know that Rainbow is gonna give us that happy ending we want so that made me love the book even more. When I first read Carry On I had to read it again like 4 more times in a row before I could put it down and that is not what I felt with this one but at the same time I totally understand why and now I feel like I'm ready to read it again and again until the next one is released and I just feel like i can't wait more than a year for that one. Something that do bothers me is how the art and the little spoilers Rainbow had given us gave us a mistaken idea of what it was gonna be but I really hope for all of it in the next one. Over all, Simon and Baz will forever be in my heart and I loved to see more of them even if they made me cry. I loved wayward son and can't wait for AWTWB and hopefully your full review too someday. Love. PS: OMG did I wrote all that? Sorry
I agree about wishing I knew Wayward Son was a middle book. I was expecting Carry On 2, which is not what we got. I do love the hinting at Agatha being asexual since it’s underrepresented in a lot of pop culture.
Oh yes, Halloween is year-round in my little shoebox place. I've added another cute Halloween sign that will live on my shelf year-round. I still need to reread Carry On. I am proud of myself for starting my reread/catchup on The Diviners before the last book comes out in February. Ooh, I found Cursed at the library so I'll be able to read it this month. I've read The Mists Of Avalon but I'm kinda on the fence about doing a reread and diving back into that series because of all the stuff that went down with the author. As for Ninth House, I do plan on reading it and the library cooperated and thankfully it is an ebook because I'm creeped out by snakes on covers. The Beautiful reminded me a bit of a trilogy by Alys Arlen only that one takes place in the present and there are witches. For me, vampires never went away. After hearing people say comeback I just randomly made a list and off the top of my head I was able to come up with twelve and all twelve were series and okay all but one were adult. Grady Hendrix is coming out with a vampire book too next year.
@@saranevano4485 The author and her husband were horrible people. The daughter Moira Greyland wrote a book called The Last Closet about the abuse but it is hard to get through not just because of the abuse but because this woman is so anti-anyone that's not straight. The husband was a pedophile and back in the day he was protected but I believe he was eventually convicted and his wife knew about it. This is totally a dilemma of can you read a book written by a monster and just enjoy the book. It's not like she profits from it anymore and I think the proceeds go to some sort of charity.
@@weirdstrangegirl oh. Thank you for your answer. I think I'll try to read the book eventually and see if I enjoy it for itself, as you say. But I don't think one can totally forget about the author as a person while reading the book.
I REALLY want a full video of u talking about Wayward Son bc it was really a caos in my feelings and hurt me in ways I didn’t know were possible mostly bc I’m kinda still struggling with depression and seen Simon like that, seen Baz like that, i cried every single chapter. Also I would love to hear all your theories and thoughts and just hear u talking about it, I’m still I so conflicted with my feelings, but no doubt I love this series, I love my boys, I love this book and I love Rainbow Rowell
Reading Ninth House right now and not sure how I'm feeling about it right now. The first 110 pages weren't so great. Then something happened that was unsettling and kept me reading. It just might be getting better. We shall see.
*spoilers for Wayward Son* Katy! How do we feel now that we are around a week or two away from the release of the new book? And do we think that the waterwraith saying that Simon gave back all of his power plus some is foreshadowing that he will get the extra power he gave back? The sword on the front cover on the new book is basically confirmation he gets it back, but I was thinking maybe the fact that they were on the beach and that wave that didn’t stop hits Simon was maybe the waterwraith giving him some of that power back somehow. Thoughts PLEASEEEEEEEEE 🤍
The beautiful caught my eyes at my local bookstore. Also it should be interesting for me to read at least once a f/f book. There are so many books I want but then I checked my wallet... a big slap in the face. Haha.
Huh.... you kinda make me want to read Wayward Son again just so that i can read it with your perspective in mind. Looking back, I kinda wonder why I was not as emotionally affected by the book. I say this because I suffer from mental illness as well and has very similar thoughts about how it affects relationship etc. but the story never triggered these thoughts. I think maybe it's a fantasy novel and not a contemporary one and I kinda just ignore those emotional aspects of it... hmm... time to reread~
Kat! First off, I’ve been watching your videos for very long now and I love them (just wanted to tell you that), and second - I waited till I could finnaly get Wayward Son and read it before I could come back here and hear yout thoughts, and Thank You because you helped me understand my own feelings about it so much better! Even though I finished it a minute ago and I’m still processing. After watching you I just wanted to push against my nerves (I always feel quite wrecked about writing public comments) and tell you this and that I’d love to listen to any more in depth thoughts and fellings you might have about it - if you ever do want to make that video. 😊
I would like to recommend a brazilian literature classic, Dom Casmurro, but I think it's hard to find this book in english. It's such a good book, taking place in Rio de Janeiro in 1857 and 1875
I was wondering if you'll be making a video to talk about how the new UA-cam/coppa regulations will affect you and booktube as a whole? I'm a small channel and would love to hear your views on it as "books" are "child attractive" so we'd all be affected by the FTC's new wording. I've seen some smaller booktubers talk about it but none of the bigger channels so far, so I'm asking a few to try and see what's going to happen.
I JUST FINISHED WAYWARD SON and I was not prepared. I worried I'd changed so much since Carry On came out that I might not to relate to the characters anymore but then we open with Simon being depressed and basically agoraphobic and I'm just getting over a bout of agoraphobia that lasted years due to a bunch of traumatic events and it was really cool that his life and development kind of matched my experiences YET AGAIN. I think Rainbow Rowell is a magician. Also if Agatha doesn't smarten her ass up and buy a handgun in book three I'm holding an intervention for her.....
Hearing you talk about wayward son made me cry. Hits close to home here, too.
