Buddhangala Monastery, Ampara

Deep within the lush jungles, approximately 7 kilometres off Ampara and closer to Arugam Bay, lies the Buddhangala Monastery. It covers an expansive 1280 acres and is perched on five distinct rocks. Dating back to the 4th Century BC, during the era of the Digamadulla Kingdom, Buddhangala Monastery has endured for centuries, witnessing destruction, rediscovery, and the quiet perseverance of forest monks.
