- Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton says the SBS bosses received a thrashing at Senate Estimates following a controversial interview from the night of the Voice referendum with Warren Mundine.
The heated debate with former SBS board member Warren Mundine on The Point brought in complaints from viewers, resulting in a Senate Estimates hearing.
Mr Houghton said the interview conducted by SBS host Narelda Jacobs was “completely unprofessional”.
“But what can you expect? Our taxpayer dollars have long been funding activist viewpoints and prop up political viewpoints on the hard left,” Mr Houghton said.
“Perhaps that cash should come with further strings attached.”
Defund the ABC and the SBS.

Roostercogburn1984, I agree that the ABC and SBS should be defunded. However I am disappointed that the Coalition politicians , who had several years in government, did not address this issue when they had the power of the purse. It’s easy to talk big from opposition but harder to actually do something when in government. If they had even taken the step of insisting the ABC and SBS adhered to their respective charters and faced monetary penalties ( I.e. reduced funding) if they didn’t it would have been a step in the right direction. We are all poorer for the loss of trust in mainstream media that many of us now experience. I never willingly watch either the ABC or SBS and am sceptical about the quality of news coverage on Channel 10, 9 and 7.
Warren is the national treasure.
As far as I’m concerned; all news and current affairs programs from both the ABC and SBS should be completely defunded. They don’t represent all of Australia. Not even a majority.
Both these grubby unaccountable toxic media rabble is stacked with racist entitled protected species like loser cry baby Grant.

Albanese should be made personally accountable for:
-Running poorly prepared referendum in an attempt to constitutionally implement racial and ethnic inequality in Australia;
-Artificially dividing Australian people along their "yes" and "no" preferences and provoking, at least, public tension;
-Hurting our Aboriginal brothers and sisters;
-Spending a substantial amount of public money for this cynical populistic stance.
And filth Abo Sleazy made absolutely no effort to get bipartisan support and just shows what an arrogant racist clown he is and the rest of the grubby corrupt gravy train sending Aus down the shitter.

The incident was reprehensible and SBS should unreservedly apologise to Warren Mundine
Saw the interview and was dismayed at Narelda Jacobs behaviour towards Warren Mundine, however, Warren Mundine had the last laugh when the Country voted "NO" and defeated the yes camp.
I wrote in and complained.Warren was treated with little respect he was ambushed.
I wish I had thought of that.
The treatment of Warren Mundine was absolutely appalling and how anyone can defend that is outrageous.
I rang SBS & put in a formal complaint.

Narendra Jacobs was rude and Warren Mundine was not given any respect. I can’t believe this is AUSTRALIA, where a referendum is supposed to be about letting the people give have their say. Yet, the NO supporters have been trashed, shamed and bullied. I’m glad I voted NO. How could we trust any of these politicians and activists to do something right😠

I think that given their ratings defunding the ABC and SBS would in effect amount to abolishing them - who would buy them as a going concern? Their properties and fixtures and fittings should be sold and put into general revenue.

Taxpayer funded corporations such as these should have barebone programming, covering *important* stories that aren't covered or won't be covered by mainstream commercial channels for whatever reason. Extra content should be funded by those who wish to watch it. SBS on demand has "over 15,000 hours of premium, curated online content from Australia and around the world". Movies, TV shows. It's basically a taxpayer funded Netflix that's only watched by a fraction of taxpayers. It's a rort.

SBS - has been a cheer squad for the Yes case for the past year. They have given the Yes case extensive free air time and free kicks against the No case with no control or oversight. The whole organisation is rotten from bottom to top and needs to be reviewed - including the presenters who are clearly driven by their bias and personal ideologies. I am old enough to remember a time when news was just news - information presented impartially, FULLY fact checked, and people given the opportunity to form their OWN position BASED ON THOSE FACTS.
At the time, in newspapers, any “opinion” piece was surrounded by a red or black border repeating the words “EDITORIAL” to indicate it was, in fact, NOT NEWS, BUT AN AUTHORS OPINION!!
THESE days, the red border would need to go around the ACTUAL FACTS, but sadly I see little if ANY “news” presented that is NOT UTTERLY TAINTED BY OPINION, PERSPECTIVE, DELUSION OR PARTISANSHIP!

Look at the ratio of votes and its very clearly, that from the marginal areas was NO.
The ABC's referendum night coverage was also obviously partisan. Most of the "neutral" presenters were obviously miserable about the result. (Anthony Green was a memorable exception doing his normal great job). I'm not complaining though the miserable journalists dragging themselves through the reporting on the Voice loss was some of the best television I have seen on the ABC for years.

I watched SBS that night and was disgusted at both of the host biased in favour of the voice and that show with those hosts had been going on for months therefore SBS were explicit in its support for the Yes campaign.
We can blame the Albanese government all we want about bias in the ABC and SBS but the LNP have done nothing to reign in those 2 channels when they were in power to ensure they provide a balanced view in political topics. It can't be hard to have crews that produce a balanced opinion, and if their staff want to remain woke, out they go...If Sky channel can do it, then why not those 2 Australian tax funded organisations. It's time to get the house in order!
How was the voice going to stop the suicide of that poor kid in an adult prison in WA. When Albanese was asked about it, his reply was simply how am i meant to know about everthing that goes on in the justice system. Mate you were told the week prior to his attempt and did nothing.
