Ymmv but i applied to CP on Valentine's day of this year, got the invitation for the assessment on March 6th, was interviewed on March 14th, received a contingent offer on March 16th, was medically cleared on March 30th and was offered the job on April 4th for an April 24th start date. I'm liking it so far, it's exactly what John says it is, it's a grind and it's definitely not for everyone (I don't think it's for me, but I'm going to stick it out) but it's a job worth having.
Applied online to CPKC for a conductor position yesterday. Got an email with a link for my online assessment this morning. Completed the assessment around noon and had a prescreen call with the recruiter at 4 pm. In-person interview is scheduled with local management for next Tuesday. If all goes well I should start my training in early October. Very impressed with the efficiency and personal attention of the process so far.
Loving the intro RTT! Can confirm it takes a while before you get an answer from class 1. I think the whole process took a couple months before I got hired by CN.
Try class one heavy commuter rail that hauls people. They will train you and get you your RR conductor or operator certification. But you will have to take the RR test every year. It's a fairly tough test too. You have to make 100% on signals ( hand signals and fixed signals, etc ) and average 85%, so you gotta study up. Bonus, you're home every night. Pay is decent. It's a stepping stone to other RR's and FRA.
I want to start at a Class 2/3, hoping they can be less strict as a Class 1, I think it would be a great way to know if it's what I really want, I want to learn as much as I possibly can without the pressures of a Class 1.
Yes very slow u ain’t kidding had my awaiting start date since April 24.2023! It kind of reminds me of the Marines it’s was always hurry up and wait!!! Thanks for the good videos!!! I got hired at NS! Still waiting for response from up did my interview on March. 11lll they still haven’t reviewed my interview smh!!!
I applied may 2nd got the job offer from csx did the background and medical passed then today I get an email saying due to business needs there are no positions open so now I’m in a pipeline. Would like to know how long it could take kinda lookin for a rough estimate
@@jamesyoung7655 I have a question I'm a little confused..how do you apply when your city is never listed? Do I just apply anywhere or do I have to wait until there's an opening... People tell me that I have to go out of town for training but I don't understand what do I need to apply for

hard to say man. each carrier is different and heavily based on the terminal too and what they run.
I’m a garbage man and I find this channel fascinating
I’m trying to get a job as one, but I keep getting turned away. I’m still trying to get my foot in the door
Waiting on start date , Waiting since March 15 2023, for NS, norfolk va
Good luck!
It isn't that hard anymore. They're so desperate they push you to marking up and fire you on day 1 because you didn't learn anything in "training"
I’m in my 3rd month of the hiring process. Definitely need patients.
This makes me feel a little better.
@Christopher Marshall just hang in there
I start in 3 weeks. Nervous as hell
You’ll be ok buddy… study study study… ask questions

Do you carry a gun on you? Or is there one in the car?
Can’t have firearms on the train or on property
