So a couple of intrepid viewers voiced concerns about me running these tests with the phone skinned/wrapped, which is fair. So I took the skin off, put the Cryo Armor case back on, and ran the AnTuTu stress test again. After seeing the results, I was a bit surprised, so I ran the test AGAIN. The result? The phone actually finished the test at HIGHER temperatures, with the skin removed. In the Cryo Armor with the skin on, the S22 Ultra finished the test with a temperature of 39.8 C/103.64 F. In the Cryo Armor with the skin removed, the Ultra finished the first test with a temperature of 41.3 C/106.34 F and the second test with a temperature of 41.8 C/107.24 F. Screenshots taken during the tests can be viewed on our Instagram account: randotechinfo And thank you to Roberto and Paul for the questions and suggestions.
Interesting, was the ambient temperature changed? I have a gaming controlled that has a fan that blows on the back. Wonder if these two combined would be beneficial. Just ordered the case n will give it a go
@@shaneintegra I tested it in the same climate controlled environment, so ambient temperature should have been similar and when testing, the starting temperatures were definitely similar. I have a pubg controller with a fan on the back. Not sure it makes a lot of difference with cooling but I LOVE the triggers.
@@RandoTechInfo I am also thinking if the openings at the back of the cryo case was supposed to have an air flowing for it to cool efficiently. Either way, I'm really thankful you're doing these tests for us.
The signal cellular bars you were referring to after removing the sim card is for emergency calls only. They cannot be removed or turned off due to regulatory requirements.
@@corollaprime04 that make sense. I'm still looking for a temperature benchmark of this case with no wraps since I'm also planning on getting one of these.
I did run a couple of benchmarks with it before I skinned it. (I was trying to figure out what benchmarks I wanted to use for the test.) The skin doesn't seem to change anything, however, just to be sure, I'm going to take the skin off and run the exact same benchmarks from the video again and see what happens. I will pin the results in the comments.
Great tests. I appreciate that you tested it with a regular Ole case too. It gives a good comparison. I had high hopes but it's a shame it didn't perform as advertised
The case does look good. While it doesn't seem to have any EXTRA cooling effect, it is really nice to see that it does not make the phone hotter to have the case on it. As long as it's performing just as well as it would without the case, I think that's a good result! I would still buy this case. But it also makes me feel better about putting ANY case on the phone without worrying about extra overheating from a case. I'm curious if there are ANY cases that actually make the phone extra hot or if the phone itself is just good at dissipating heat regardless of the case. Maybe you just tested two equally good cases!
Linus Tech Tips did a pretty deep dive on this a while back and it seems most cases do not increase phone temps. I think most cases, somehow, do a pretty good job of not trapping in head. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Was there any difference in the benchmark scores? The phone will throttle to keep temperatures down, that might be the reason the temperatures are similar. But if the benchmark scores are higher, especially the ones at the end of the test, it is an indication the case works.
Legit question. Actually it shouldn't throttle. That's why Samsung just got in trouble for "throttle-gate". Their phones intentionally DON'T throttle while using benchmark apps, which ensures higher scores. (Even though the phone WILL throttle other apps to keep temps down.) On AnTuTu you can also set a max temp cap for the stress test. I had the cap at 50 degrees Celsius so that also should not have been a factor. That said, the scores for both benchmarks we're always consistent.
@@RandoTechInfo no, that is not true, they still throttle, only not as much. The SOC manages that. Only some gaming phones with active cooling will stay cool enough not to throttle. Still, question answered, thanks!
I was considering this case for my iPhone 15 for the cooling features but after watching your video I have reconsidered. Thanks for the video it helped me with my decision.
Question, since I'm examining this case for the s23 ultra... The temperatures stayed the same, but did the benchmark scores change? I mean, doesn't the Snapdragon work within a thermal busget and just clock accordingly? Or am I fiving the chip too much credit?
Its not the temperature in the 3D mark test that are most important. Its the framerate since the machine will always push its limit. But the performance will change (if it keeps the phone cooler) You should share the performance data. not the heat
I think u should take the temperature at the back of the case instead on the screen. The material help to remove the heat from the back. That’s my point of view. Thanks for the video.
I never used a case. Until I dropped my phone and cracked the back. Like a dent. My phone is perfectly fine. Just that cracked looks horrible. So I bought this case for my 21ultra. And I'm satisfied with the look. Feel and slim feeling it has.
Wow! Thank you for making this video! Do you think there will be any difference if you placed an actual fan cooler specifically made for phones + Cryo; like the one from Razer?
I just bought some a cheap case that has holes in the back, it's supposedly will help with cooling , There are also a lot of these cooling cases, have you considered reviewing a few of the cheap ones
TBH not really. I kind of figured if this case didn't work then those wouldn't either. I never say never though. If things slow down enough for me at some point I might try one out.
I am so glad I watched your video! I was going to buy this case, until I saw this video. Since this case obviously doesn't work, have you found another that does?
Hi, what happens if you use a phone cooler on said cases? Will the air pockets of the cryo armor increase the temperature drop, because it cal flow.better than a regular case?
I really wish you'd compare a fourth case, one that is heavy duty, I.E. UAG or Defender Series. Something like that. I bought an aluminum case that has really BEEFED up the phone's protection, but also the temp. It gets HOT using youtube! but the cryo doesn't. Yes, I bought the Cryo.
I may be completely wrong here, I'm just making guesses lol. But what if you checked the temperature with the thermal thermometer from the back of the device instead of the front? Heat is supposedly drawn from the back. Maybe your thermometer was just reading the heat from the screen instead of the heat from the internals?
First off you're not wrong, and and I actually spent a lot of time thinking about how I wanted to run this test and how I wanted to take the temperature measurements. I decided to take them from the front of the phone for two reasons. 1. I couldn't figure out a good way to take the temperature from the back of the phone during the test without having to physically touch the phone and I was worried touching the phone could tamper with the results. 2. If the case really was able to draw heat out of the back of the phone then theoretically that would have actually made the temperatures I was measuring hotter which would have made the results counterintuitive. Ultimately it was just a judgment call but it's also why I had multiple ways to measure temperature over the course of the test. Thanks for watching!
Your phone has a red sticker/vinyl on it? Wouldn't it matter with the temperature readings? I mean heat would be retained more with the sticker/vinyl on it?
If there was a good cooling case for the S21, I'd be interested in it. My phone gets warm doing everyday tasks, and gaming is another story. It hasn't ever gotten to the point where it was unusable though.
im pretty sure the red skin on the back is preventing from the graphite sheet to absorb and spread the heat' would love to see a test without the red carbonfibre- like texture sking
Glad I didn't see it yesterday 😂. I bought one to play call of duty, had it shipped today and I actually really like it anyway, feels good in my hand and looks like it'll keep it together in case of dropping.

It's put me off getting it, what's the point in getting a nice fancy burgundy phone to throw a black brick style case on it when it doesn't offer its biggest feature? I'd rather have there burgundy colour hybrid case

The only way to cool any device is with internal fans lmao you can't cool trapped hot air inside the phone with a case that has a graphite pad. It's scientifically incorrect. It's a gimmick.
