I was heartbroken when I heard of the struggles Estelle went through after the Ronettes broke up. It's just horrible how the record industry has taken advantage of so many artists while the record companies still make millions from these artists. I hope Estelle had good friends and family around her during her difficult times. So sad how when your young and famous you can have everyone wanting to be near you but as soon as the money and fame is gone your left alone to fend for yourself. Estelle had a daughter who turned out to be just as beautiful as she was with her mother's gorgeous looks. It was wonderful to see the Ronettes get inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Now there memories will live on for other generations and there wonderful music. Your amongst the angels and stars now Estelle. Shine Bright up there and may God Bless Your Soul.🙏

Women like this were ripped off, used and abused and it was extraordinary that they were able to achieve some sort of success. It is only right that they should be honored. This tribute will be here long after we are all dead. Well done John Kenower.

Nice to see this. As a teen, I'd meet with Estelle at their apartment in NY on the west side. We'd go to Chock full of nuts coffee shops nearby and chat for hours. But I noted a deep sadness. I took some pictures at their apartment. Her mom Beatrice was also sweet. Estelle was truly shy and unassuming despite her fame. We lost contact when I moved to the Bronx, then to NJ and later I found out she lived near me. RIP Estelle.

@Gaenor Rees don’t be too hard on yourself. Nobody knew Estelle was homeless. After the ronettes broke up, each member went their own way assuming that they would be okay. Estelle just wandered the streets telling people the ronettes would perform at a jazz club. She missed being famous so much the break up really got to her. But her daughter did say that she was very happy at the rock and roll hall of fame induction. She was happy to get her pictures taken and hearing people ask for her autograph.

To be fair, Ronnie Spector and the Ronettes had no connection to Motown or to Detroit. They did all their marvelous recording for the company which was owned by Phil Spector, in Philadelphia and on the eastern seaboard. He was famous for the "wall of sound" made famous in the 60's, and which is prominent in the music of the Ronettes. The Motown company founded by Berry Gordy in Detroit was based exclusively in Detroit. Eventually, Gordy moved the company to California in about 1970.

I was born in the 60s and grew up in the 70s and then graduating in the 80s. Ronnie and the Ronettes were the all time girl group... To bad that she had to go through just a hard life, but i she passed away knowing she was very loved not just by her family, but those who listened to her music. RIH Ronnie now the Bernette Sisters are reunited once again singing their beautiful music❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Its great to see this footage of "The Ronettes" from Washington Heights, NYC (Rock & Roll hall of fame 2007) back when they were making hit records and were at the top of the charts all across america, but also sad because time passes and things change. In my opinion they were the best of the 1960's, the look, the sound, the songs, the whole package. All "The Ronettes" were pretty and had a great look but Estelle was very beautiful and could sing. Very sad that her illness really held her back and that she really could not continue in the music industry, besides Phil Spector w/all his money and power did not help their situation at all. Estelle you were and are beautiful, thank you for the music and thank you for the memories...Rest in Peace.........

By all accounts, Estelle was a sweetheart. Valedictorian of her high school class, quiet, she loved being a Ronette. Trained in clothing design, she chose all the Ronettes' stage clothes. Men, Beatles included, saw her as mysterious. But Estelle was just shy and quiet by nature! She was devastated when her life as a Ronette ended, and was never the same. Estelle struggled with a host of serious emotional and physical challenges throughout her life, passing away from cancer on Feb 11.

Estelle personified the look of the Ronettes. She was the most exotic looking of the Ronettes. I have no idea what her singing voice was like since Phil Spector added so many layers of voices to the tracks of the Ronettes records that Estelle's and Nedra's voices get lost in the chorus of backup voices.

It's so sad that she had to suffer from all those mental health problems and could not really put her talent into use after the Ronettes :( I have heard a couple of her solo tracks and her voice is actually AMAZING. She could have been the lead singer just as well as Ronnie (or even better, but that's a matter of taste obviously), and definitely would have deserved a great solo career had she not been so ill. :(
