Sorry for my tardiness John😂 but thought I would just comment. Thanks for such a informative video, much appreciated. I agree with you regarding the overall compactness of these types of weapons, I do know that the British Army current Sharpshooter rifle has a 16” barrel and a folding stock specifically designed to reach out and remove threats to 800 mt. And of course the short barrel and stock configuration allows relatively easy access in and out of fighting vehicles! Once again many thanks, much appreciated. Kind regards from deepest Dorset England 🇬🇧🇺🇸
My Sig cross in 6.5 fires 143gr hornaday precision hunter ammo at about 2500, with a folding stock it’s very compact even with an 18” barrel. And it’s very accurate!!
Love short guns. I have a 17" 6.5 wssm pushing 130s at 2550. Performs wonderfully on deer. I also have a 26.5" 243 which while flat is really a pain in the hoop. My preference is defanatly the 16-20" range. Always run a mod so the 17" 6. 5 is really a 20 and that 26.5 is really a 30". The 6.5 is much more poppy in report than the 243. Even though they literally run the same ammount of the same powder.
My question is if you need a 30 cal round, why are we worried about cqb? Wouldn't the need for the larger round mean we need it for a greater standoff distance to the target? I say have multiple mission specific rifles which will accel at what they are intended for,or have one Swiss army knife type rifle which does multiple jobs ok.
You should probably listen to the guy in the video. He covers the WHY. It's never a good idea to read the video title and then go straight to the comment section to render your opinion before watching the entire video.
If we're talking 300 yards or less, why not just stick with 5.56 with a 16" barrel? I understand having a 308 for military applications, but I guess I don't realize what kind of benefit a 308 will have over a 5.56 within 300 yards? The only thing I can think of would be barrier penetration.

Arc!
16-18" is the sweet spot. I could get 2650fps out my 18" from a 175 SMK.

What is your choice for a LE sniper round? I know of teams still using the 168 federal GM match. Thanks.
Hornady 168 TAP ELDM here. Seems other teams are going to the Federal 168 bonded tipped round as the best jack of all trades option

What is that shirt you are wearing?
Velocity Systems BOSS Rugby.
Is a 10-12" 308 going to have more MV than a 300blk? That just sounds dumb as heck....
Lots of MF too….
There is no replacement for displacement......
But a grendel would fit the bill in my mind
I love my Remington 308 16.5" , a semi auto is ideal but South African gun laws make is difficult
why not a bullpup like a 6.5 mdrx?
Having all the weight in the back of a DMR/sniper type rifle is not a good thing.
Who is this guy ?
Feels like just going with a 6.5G or 6.8
I don’t see your videos unless I search them; thanks utoob 🥴
