Rockfish, halibut, squid, tuna, whatever we are able to fish for we can go. You’re a stand up guy and it was nice to talk to ya. Look forward to seeing you on the water. Tight lines….

Perfectly prepared squid. It's a tasty seafood. What's another bonus is that it's sustainable. I think that even chunks of halibut, or even mussels would be a great addition to that soup. That stove you have is pretty cool too. This was another awesome adventure. Cheers, Taku and Jocelyn. 👍🏻👍🏻✌️

In CA, there are some other very sustainable choices (tho I love squid too): herring, mackerel, anchovies, sardines, sand dabs, sole. Skates and rays are fairly plentiful too. Taku always has great cooking techniques, which can make anything taste great.

that compact butane stove is absolutely genius. Also, I've been a viewer for a few years now and your style of outdoor cooking really reminds me of the original New Scandinavian Cooking from PBS. And then I realized your outro music pays homage to him. Love it.

This reminds of a childhood friend who relentlessly teased me about eating squid. One day I cooked up some calamari and he said it was his favorite dish. When I reminded him he hated “calamari” and he was shocked to find out calamari was squid. Jeez😂

Your squid soup reminds me of the soup I had when I taught in South Korea. It was the polar opposite of the masterpiece that you cooked, cheap and simple, but not too bad. We teachers ate our lunch with the kids so the food had to be economical. The squid soup was pretty much a red chili pepper broth with some squid tentacles.

I changed my recipe up a lil bit though, since I've won several of the "Pepper X" sauces from Smokin' Ed Currie. I added a couple tablespoons of his "Pepper X Slavic Plum" and that gave it a nice kick.

All the ones available in SF are the cheap looking kind, where the rice is sticking to each other...can't see each individual grain - see I've learned a lot already from your videos. So interested in making nigiri sushi instead of your ordinary rolls. 🙏🏼 Please let me know if you ever consider in person classes.

Really cool. I moved to California earlier this year and lived there for a couple months. I didn't have the required documentation to get a fishing license, which I regret. I wanted to go fishing so badly and catch a Lingcod. I did visit a dock, which you can fish from without a license, but I was unsure of the Laguna Beach area. I watch your channel and another (which you have collab'd with in the past - how I found your channel). I will say that your New Zealand fishing trip was very good. Also, I love squid. I use it as bait here in Texas (yes, I moved back to Texas after only 2 months). I expect to go shark fishing here in a few weeks (shore fishing...bait, cast, relax in a chair, and wait...lol). Excellent video! Take care!
