I have been using Inkscape for a few years now & love it!! Still learning as I go. You my dear are a great teacher! I think I can now create without having to go back to this video. Thanks for sharing!! Have a blessed day!
I've been using Inkscape for a long time too and I'm still learning, LOL I think this program is so robust that you'll always learn something new with Inkscape.
Is there a way to do this with text/font too? My problem: I created a Happy new year card and in the cricut software i changed the words 'Happy new year" to "pen" but... it doesn't work. When I do this, the words have two outlines like basic cut. So, I need something to make my font only a single line when I click "pen". I hope you understand what I mean 🤗
Hi Ashlee, first time Inkscape, first time off mat and it came into CDS perfectly, (cut out tomorrow) thank you so much for your videos and constant enthusiasm, it really keeps me going!!! Now on to your Inkscape tutorials………
I’ve never had the issue with Inkscape freezing but silhouette business edition is $$ (and although I have it too, most don’t want to spend the money on an app they could do it for free ya know)
Hi thank you for this Wonderfull tutorial, i am new to Inkscape haven’t figured it out yet, just a quick question how do i dlete nodes without changing the shape?
I have yet to find someone to teach how to recreate a svg snowman file to cut out on a laser such as snowman with hat scarf buttons and how to trace over this and make it a cut file for Glowforge I always have to buy one in Etsy say I have a wood ornament file how can I recreate it to make more??
Great tutorial, Ashlee, THANK YOU! I love my Cricut Machines - I have the Cricut Explore Air 2, Maker 3 and got the Joy Xtra in January this year. I feel Cricut Design Space is letting its Customers who, for whatever reason, don't pay for Cricut access, down as every new update you now need Cricut Access to use them. Apparently Cricut could be bringing out a Laser Machine at some point, which is great, but personally feel they should concentrate on fixing the bugs in CDS first before releasing yet another new machine. Just my HO ofcourse. I use Canva and save my projects in both PNG & SVG. [I also use Creative Fabrica a lot as well for SVGs as they come with a Commercial Licence which is awesome] I've not used Inkscape as often as I'd like, so definitely going to watch your tutorials and have a try. 💕💕
Cricut does have a patent on a laser machine, but I also heard rumors of them buying glowforge. I wonder what's the truth and what's really happening inside cricut. You think they'd hire me? LOL
hi just love these character tutorials! my kids beg me to make them stuff like this! are you able to do a tutorial on replicating more complex images that cant be auto traced?
Although this isn't a character tutorial the new svg file that we create is of a realistic image, so this will be really helpful to learn so you can replicate the same steps with realistic characters: ua-cam.com/video/Muf-TNp8SHY/v-deo.htmlsi=81odZt1_dLFZrP_F
I really enjoyed making this SVG, thanks Ashlee :) I had Inkscape for a while but never used it because it looked complicated :/ lol. I can't wait to make another one :)
Hey I just found ur channel an I'm a new subscriber here...thanks for the video...this helped me...I never used inkscape but think I'm gonna give it a go...
Hi . Sorry I did everything I needed. When I saved it said envy.png. then I went down and I saved it as a plain svg. But it came out blurry in design space . What did I do wrong . Thank you .
I am having issues that when I trace bitmap my image is not as clear as yours, what am I doing wrong, like it is not a clear image as your is, and my settings look to be set the same as yours. Great tutorial and would work great if I can get bitmap to look like yours! Thank you so much!
Are you using the same exact image as me? If so, try saving the image to a higher quality. If not, choose images that are higher resolution. The more resolution the better the trace.
@@ashleefalco Thank you for the reply, yes I am using the same image, or at least I think I am, I will try changing the resolution if I can. Thank you so much for replying!
So glad I found this tutorial. I had ink scape for awhile but I probably need to check for the newest version. Definitely looks like you have more control in inkscape than design space.
Is Inkscape free? 😂 jkjk Excellent tutorial and something I never knew you could do. I think this will help me with 3D printing too, going to save this video for sure.
Hi, This is amazing and easy to follow along, but I must have missed something. 🤣😬😬😊 I had the following issues: 1. When I right clicked on the clipart I did not have an option to download, so I selected "save image as." 2. When I put my silhouette to the threshold of 1.000 it turns into a black square, even when I place it on the colored image, it remains a square. Also, if I take the silhouette image down to 0.990, the white part of the silhouette's eyes show. If possible, can you let me know what I might be doing incorrectly. Thank you.
Hello! Saving image as is perfectly fine and acceptable. You did the right thing! Turning it all the way to 1.00 will turn anything black. You’ll want to take the threshold down until you get exactly the image you’re wanting. Once you’re satisfied press update. Depending on the image you may need to go down to .97 (it just depends on the original image).
@@ashleefalco Thank you so much for your reply. I was just concerned because I used the same image as you did (for testing purposes 😊) and mines didn't come out like yours. My image had the whites of her eyes staring back at me. 🤣😄😂 I definitely appreciate this video and will be using this technique for future projects.
Oops, sent send without finishing 🤪! I want to thank you so much for the video. It’s very comprehensive and (hopefully with a mouse) easy to follow! And thanks so much for answering
Right when I started working on the eyes, I knew I’d lose someone. Those got a bit difficult but there wasn’t an easier way without leaving a bunch of small pieces later on
Great tutorial! However, definitely not a follow along for someone trying to learn Inkscape. I wish you could have explained where the buttons were as you were selecting things. It got really difficult to follow along when you started changing the colors of the eyes. I guess I will have to play around with Inkscape more, before trying this again.

Brilliantly presented video. I really needed this tutorial for my VideoScribe project. Thank you soooooooo much. Thumbs up!

Can you do a video on making the split designs in Inkscape that they doing now.? I love how you explain your process. Thank you
On Friday!
This is a great tutorial. I have always had trouble with Inkscape!!!! Ugh! I think I will give it a try again. Thank you! ❤❤❤
Learning a new program can be difficult but because it’s free I choose to try and figure it out lol anything to save a few bucks.

Thank you. One thing I wasn't clear on was what to do to remove the nodes. Am I just clicking on them or???
Click and press delete
Hi Ashlee thank you for this tutorial something I have wanted to try. So try I will when I have some time hopefully in the next week or two
yay! HAVE FUN CREATING!
Awesome 🎉
Thank you! Cheers!
I have tried using Inkscape and it always freezes my computer up. I design my svg files on Silhouette Business Edition.

you can save this file as a png or jpg

You can’t, but once you delete a node you can go back and move the line back to the spot you want.
Thanks a lot i really appriciate it.

Totally could!

I cannot get these to actually save as svg to open in silhouette studio. it saves as .html no matter what I do
there's a drop down box when saving that you can change it to an SVG file.

Help my Inkscape doesn't have a apply button
I would redownload the Inkscape, that sounds like a glitch.
Is it inky for $1.99 on Google play?
No. It’s free and a called Inkscape
I don’t think there is a mobile app for it. Just desktop.
Can't you get into copyright issues doing Disney characters?
I’m not selling any of this.
