I’m in the USAF and doing some pretty rough stuff in my career field’s training pipeline. I recently started rocking the DW-5600BB, and this thing is so perfect at what it does, I really couldn’t see a better option for myself. I’ve already beat the hell out of it and perfect still, never misses a beat.

The gwg1000 is the ultimate gshock. Been beating the fuck out of mine and it doesnt budge an inch. Only thing I'm worried about is the rubber strap decaying after a few decades lol.

I got this exact watch many years ago, in 2011, in Guantanamo Bay when my ship visited there. I had, until then, been using an ultra-cheap "rectangle" Casio digital watch, the simplest ones they make. I found this new black G-shock watch in a Navy Exchange and I'd been looking for an upgrade. The DW5600MS-1 was the very first watch I've ever bought that was more than 20 dollars, and I've been using it ever since. I'm no longer in the Navy, but I still have my trusty black G-Shock by my side every day. I've never had a more reliable watch that has lived through more abuse than this one. It's viable in every and any situation, and only gets better with age. I'm totally bonded with it.
It's also worth noting that it was this G-Shock got me started on an interest in watches that were a bit more expensive; a bit higher quality. When I got home to the states, it was this watch that made me start looking into watches, until eventually I discovered the world of fine horology.
By the way, I just bought my first Swiss watch last month, an Oris Propilot Bigcrown Date.

Oh wow! I've never really been a watch guy but my job in industrial maintenance and operations pretty much required me to wear a rugged watch for time keeping in an environment full of hazards. So I got the G-Shock Mudman and it still serves me well. Now that my discretionary income has increased and watch channels like yours, I've decided to start a real collection. It was real exciting to see your Mudman and it made me realize that I've already started my collection as my utilitarian watch has become more than a tool to me. You've certainly earned my respect.

There is something to be said for g shocks. The fact that TGV, *fastest watch flipper in the West* used the mudman until it was disgusting shows that it is a reliable practical watch that proves to be a great thing to have among one's other watches. :)

As others have mentioned, the ultimate square is the GW5000. Multi band atomic, DLC coated steel body instead of the resin inner build, super soft resin strap. Definitely worth a review if you have the time and a chance to get your hands on one. A permanent part of my collection.

I purchased the BBN5600-1 Full stealth/tactical version… And I also purchased the bull bars as recommended from Kay and Jay...I just put it on a one piece black w/PVD hardware NATO strap....Absolutely incredible and for less than $100 Fully decked out!
I’ve never been a fan of the bulkiness and large size of the majority of the G-Shock’s. I also get a bit annoyed at all the writing and specs on the face of Casio’s…I have several of the classic Classics for nostalgia...wear and Enjoy them very much...This watch is just cool…
It takes its rightful place in my ‘Top-watch-box’...Surrounded by a bunch of mechanical watches (All of which cost many times more)....And more than holds its own...Having trouble taking it off my wrist.
Thanks for all the wonderful recommendations and reviews...and particularly for this one! You are always spot-on and you’ve taught me a ton...All the best! John

I've always wanted a g-shock and since here in Brazil everything is more expensive, only this month I was able to fulfill the dream if buying my first one!! I went for the dw5600-bb and couldn't be happier.
I was already into the nato strap and even had a leather one made for my dress watch, but was kind of on the fence wether to get one for my new 5600. After seeing this video I decided to get these adapters for it!

Of course, I jumped on the deal!
I cannot believe how great this watch is for me-- size wise, its an ana-digi, its got excellent (better than I thought it would) lume, it wasn't hard to set (analog or digital), its got great backlighting for the digital screen, its got 200m wr, etc. etc.
Thanks for turning me on to these, Tristano! Much obliged from the center of the country!! 😆

I have the DW-5600BBN version. Prefer it over the MS-1 because I liked the white negative display over the red negative and it has less lettering on the screen. Great watch that retains the classic 5600 "square" shape. BBN does cost ($115) more but a benefit is that you don't have to buy extra adapters and you can use any nato straps (22mm). The 5600 series is the only g-shock I would own.

I'm gonna comment on every g shock video you have and recommend you do a review of the AWG-M100. It's the most underrated model in their lineup and wears extremely well, with tons of features. A phenomenal piece.

Been looking into a G-Shock for an everyday beater watch and I stumbled across your videos. I'm not really into the bulky style of most of the G-Shock's out there so I was looking at something that was a bit more slender. It seems you hit the nail on the head with this one. I may do a little more research before pulling the trigger but thanks to your review, it looks like I may be looking at my next watch. Enjoyed the detail review, you earned yourself a new subscriber and fan. Cheers from Hawaii!

The DW5600 is one of the classic G-Shock used by Army soldiers and USMC marines. While I used a diminutive military Hamilton hand crank mechanical, for a G-Shock today I'd prefer a solar atomic that doesn't require batteries, and can sync its time with a number of VLF radio time signals on various continents. While the radio time syncing is a convenience that can be periodically corrected manually, the solar eliminates finding a battery and clean space in which to perform open heart surgery on it out in the middle of nowhere while living in crude conditions in the frozen dusty mud. Finding the battery could easily be the insurmountable issue. There aren't very many Wally Worlds out in the middle of a Hazardous Duty Area (aka "Combat Zone"). My current "beater" is a Casio GW6900-1 that I've had for over four years now (bought in June 2014). It's still a bit under $100 on Amazon. Charges very quickly from near dead to fully in direct sunlight. In indirect skylight sitting in a window, it takes longer, but is still relatively fast. Bright white daylight LED lighting is nearly as fast as direct sunlight. We may differ about the specific model, but I concur that a G-Shock is very nearly indestructible and very well suited to serve as a beater that will be very thoroughly thrashed repeatedly.

Pro tip: there are cheapo (under a fiver) digital calipers made from plastic available on ebay and such. Great for taking measurements of fancy things.
