This series of LT videos by IllinoisBMWriders is excellent. Most bike work is easy once you've done it. These videos are the next best thing to a job being a repeat. Where are the hidden fasteners, what order do things come off, what to be careful of are all well described. Seeing it done once is very helpful. Thanks Kirk.

The kit I bought had a grommet built in. I ended up mounting the ballast on this nice ledge on the right side panel directly below the air intake. I drilled a small hole to run a zip tie through...worked great, and love the new lighting. Thanks for all of your videos!

As usual, a fantastically informative video.
This is one of the first mods I did and makes a huge amount of difference to the bike.
I was able to mount the ballast on the (when looking from the front) right hand side under the lower front tupperware (the one that surrounds the light). My ballast came with a mounting bracket/plate that allowed me mount it under an existing bolt I found just behind the horn.
Although before I got around to doing the above I just zipped tied it to the cross beams as you have shown. I only really moved it because I could and it saved me looping the excess wire up.

I would like to try this for my 2002 K1200 LT, but I do not want to screw up the order as I have done with other things in the past. Is the Xenon the best way to go or should I consider an LED installation? .....Russell D.

I recommend to only change the low beam. The High beam takes too long to heat up and would not be of much use.

Great Video....looking forward to installing my HID kit that just arrived. Did you require the warning cancellation module? I purchased it with the kit for a 05 K1200LT. Thanks again! Rob

+Bob Mazzoni Im not really sure what the relay is for? It may be a canbus relay to tell the system that there is a light there.

Thanks for the video, I have been looking at sites for the kit and most want options such as a canceler, slim, digital, HD, or standard ballast, relays, warrantys, ect. I am looking for something I do not have to modify my stock system and blow fuses or tax the alternator. I understand a relay may get more power but is heat a problem? Thanks in advance for sharing your experience. Also, what about those PIAA fork lights? Worth it to get paripheral lighting or are they not adjustable? Thanks again...

Love the videos! I just bought a 2008 K1200LT from out of state and are waiting for warmer weather to go get and ride home. Does the 2008 have 2 bulbs in it? Will i need a kit with both high and low beams?...Thanks

Kirk, my 2006 k1200lt has the metal clasp thing holding on the plastic cover but it seems to have something metal mounted on it. When I flip the clasp down and try to pull the cover off it just doesn't seem to want to come off. I'm just wanting to replace burned out bulb. Thank you for any help.

Does anyone know where to get this HID Kit (or an equally good one) today in 2023? My bike really needs it as I can not see well at night! (2003 K1200LT)

I did this last week, and it blew the 7.5a fuse. It lit for 20-30 seconds first, then went out. Was this just a fluke, or do I need a 10a fuse or greater? Can the wiring handle a bigger fuse?
