Hey everyone, Shane here with etrailer.com. Today I have a 2017 Porsche Cayenne. I want to walk you through how to install the CURT Class 3 Trailer Hitch Receiver, adding a class three hitch on your vehicle is going to give you a lot of different options, whether that's accessories or maybe pulling a trailer. With a bike rack, we don't have to try to load our bikes inside the vehicle, put them on the bike rack to make more rooms for our passengers. Cargo carriers, we can get some of those items from inside, put them outside on the cargo carrier, again, making more room for our passengers. And then as I mentioned earlier, and we can pull a small trailer or camper.
It's going to be a steel construction, black powder coat finish, so it's going to hold really nice in all weather conditions. You see the cross tube is completely hidden behind the bumper fascia, the only thing we can really see is our receiver tube here, and it sits fairly flush with the outside edge of our bumper, so it's not really an eyesore on the Porsche itself. It's going to give us a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, reinforced collar, give us a little extra stability there. Our hitch pin hole, it's going to be 5/8 inch in diameter. It's going to take a standard 5/8 hitch pin. Hitch pin and clip does not come with this hitch however, it can be found here at etrailer.com.
Safety chain loops, you can see it's plate style and they run up and down. It's going to accommodate different size safety chain hooks. As far as our weight capacities and measurement go, from the center of our hitch pin hole to the outermost part of our bumper is going to be about three inches. That number's important for any of your hitch mount accessories that fold up. You want to make sure they're not going to make contact. From the ground to the top innermost part of our receiver tube is going to be about 17 inches.
That number is important for any of your hitch mount accessories that may require a little bit more ground clearance. As far as our weight capacities go, we're going to have a 750 pound max tongue weight, which is the downward pressure on the inside of the receiver tube. So when we're putting the cargo carrier on with our cargo, or maybe we're putting our bike racks on, we want make sure we're not exceeding that downward pressure. We're going to have a 7,500 pound gross trailer weight. That's going to be a trailer plus load included. That's how much the hitch can pull.
I always recommend checking the owner's manual on your Porsche. Make sure the vehicle withstands that amount of weight. You're going to go with the inaudible 00:02:12 arm between the vehicle and the hitch. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's walk through how to get it installed. To start our installation, we're going to take a T25 Torx bit and we're going to remove the four fasteners that run along and across the center backside of our vehicle. Next on each side, we're going to take the same torx that- I'm going to come underneath. If you have a mud flap, you need to remove the mud flat to expose these bolts here. We're going to remove this one, and then we're going to have two of them that run up on the inside of your liner that are holding this trim piece on. We're going to have one here and file this up. We're going to have one right here. We're going to come back down to the bottom and we're going to remove this one. Okay. That's going to free up our liner or, I'm sorry, our trim. We'll just kind of pop that out. We're going to remove this bolt here. Then we'll come over to the side, underneath of our trim. We're going to remove this bolt, this one and the next one up there.Next we need to remove our tail lights. We're going to open our hatch, you're going to have a small panel on the inside. Take a trim panel tool, we're just going to kind of work it out. Make sure you don't break it because it just kind of pops into place with some little tabs. We'll remove this bolt and this bolt. We're going to be using a T30 Torx bit for those two. Next, we need to remove the taillight. We're going to have a tab right back here that holds it in place. We're going to pull straight back. Just, want to be careful when we're doing this that we don't damage the car and we don't break the taillight. Your trim panel tool, again, make sure it's plastic, kind of use that to help kind of work your light loose like that. We're going to have some wiring here and a tab right here on the inside. Push that tab and then slide your wiring off, like that. Then we'll set our taillight aside. We're going to take that same T30, we're going to remove this b

You don’t need to cut any plastic from your bumper you just need to move it back and forth until it pops through the hole.
