- A traditional Yorkshire poem/saying. This is the version taught to me by my grandparents as a child, but I'm aware that other (similar) versions exist.
Broad Yorkshire:
Ear all, see all, seh nowt.
Eyt all, sup all, pay nowt.
And if thi ever does owt for nowt,
Do it for thissen!
English translation:
Hear everything, see everything, say nothing.
Eat everything, drink everything, pay nothing.
And if you ever do anything for nothing,
Do it for yourself!
