GENGHIS KHAN Moscow 1980

- Dschinghis Khan also known as Genghis Khan for Australian record buyers, achieved one hit wonder status downunder when 'Moscow' (originally in German and under the title 'Moskau') became a #1 hit around the time of the Russian Olympics in 1980. The song was first issued the year prior, but the Seven Network in Oz, broadcasting the summer games, used the English version to promote the event, and the song went gangbusters; spending 6 weeks at the top and debuted at the top spot in Sydney; a feat virtually unheralded in 1980, but something of a common occurrence these days. The song shipped Platinum; and was the 16th best seller of 1980. I was not sure if I could cope with spending an hour listening to the irritatingly infectious chorus, as those few months it was so huge all those years ago, probably sufficed for a lifetime, but it was actually quite enjoyable to reconnect with this quirky disco hit, which for Australians was everywhere back then. I hope it brings back some fond memories for other Aussies, and for anyone else into pop music.

Essa música fez sucesso no mundo inteiro!
it was famous in the world, for them who had radio or TV at the time :)
Every. Ecuadorian.party. ever. Plays this song...
Took me right back to Perth in 1980. I actually thought it was the theme song for the Moscow Olympics until today when I discovered it was just used by the Australian TV channels for the Olympics coverage! Love it, but I do prefer the German version.
i srsly missed this song
Jack Breen I needed this for my Russian bias in war thunder montage
Play it while I play
Finally! Someone thought to upload the WHOLE song.
Every single other version on UA-cam in English is missing the second verse.
@Tone. There is short version, long version and extended version. - I am working on a video to explain why there are so many version, but the long version has them going, oh oh oh oh ohohhh at the begging before they start singing.

Came looking for this song to post on a Facebook thread about the 1980 Olympics.
I was in primary school at the time in country Victoria (Australia), and the playground version of this song, referencing Mishka the giant bear which was the Olympic mascot, went:
Moscow! Moscow!
See the Russian teddy bear
Dancing in his underwear
Ah ha ha ha ha
Hey!
I remember that! Fellow rural Victorian in the 80's.
@@nikkip1810 Not just in rural Victoria too! I was in suburban Melbourne and dancing to this just before main bell each day at primary school. Today my son (19 years of age) heard this song today for the first time and he couldnt help but dance to it too. Gotta luv the 80s for the range of dance music it produced :)
A brilliantly composed song !
Never heard this before but was curious to listen to it after I just saw a list of Australian number ones from 1980.
German version is so much better.
It's on the B-side of this disc.
In Australia it was the B-Side of the single.
The German version is actually shorter than the English version.
At least I can understand the English version because I don't know how to translate it into German.
No, Da Tweekaz version is waaaay better. :D
@@rick_terscale1111 link it!
nossa tinha um compacto em cs com duas musicas deles quando criança.....
eles são umas figuras.....kkkk
this songs storyline is a little confusing.a group of germans named after a mongolian dancing in a russian manner and singing about how russia is great during the cold war... let that sink in abit
dumb_ass presents and they pronounce Moscow as Moss-cow
If they were from east germany it would make more sense.
Stephenie Tsundere San it's because that's the German way of pronouncing it... So it makes sense, since they're german
O boi

Oui
They don't singing the original song just in english, they have made an other version just the beat is the same and some parts of the song.
Google- Nutzer This group were known for recording their own English translations to their songs.
Recording this version in English is better than a straight translation on the German lyrics.
This English version is a little more friendlier to Russia than what the German lyrics are.
Bonita musica! =D Ei brasileiros, vamos fazer amizade. =D
Rodrigo Cesar Bagnara -Oi Rodrigo bom dia!!!tudo bem??
