This album is so amazing and very special. I believe it is very personal to taemin too. From the title alone of the album alone given how much he loves dancing. I always find myself feeling sad when taemin's songs don't get as much appreciation as they should but then I remember that doesn't take away from his talent in the end. Since this is a concept album I feel like the album is portraying the end of relationship and what follows. 2 kids starts the theme of the story but also ends the first Act. The beginning of the album is dark, showing the issues in ones life and the relationship. Also how that relationship breaks down, but you don’t want to let it go. As the album progresses the songs become lighter. Moving from a dark destructive tone to one of remembering and missing the past. Looking back on the relationship.
In an interview Taemin said something similar. He said that that Act 1 would be much darker than Act 2. He also said the songs will progress from a hard fall and despair to a healing phase and the 'narrator' getting on his feet again.

It's just his voice and a piano for half the song, and yet it's more mesmerizing than anything I've heard from kpop in a while. As usual for our Taemin

Ok so my crazy theories go on, basically I think the dark side he is always talking about killed someone and everything reminds him of his first victim, he dreams about it over and over again, and the more he thinks about this victim, the more this circle that never ends of him goes on, him thinking about his darker side that he cant let go and want to let take control to handle everything since he cant, let it be the bad and thinking hes still somewhat innocent even if like he said in criminal, this side is making him less and less innocent more they share something together
I think Clockwork is the beggining of the end between the criminal and the innocent, but it's still painful to let him go and you can feel that pain towards the end when his adlibs start.. it could be interpreted as anything else as a stand alone song, but as the album is telling the story we're already familiar with, that's how it feels for me.
