    The amount of toxic comments on these athletes times is crazy. Of course they're not going to beat pro runners at running, but you can bet they'll out lift them in any lift. They won't beat any olympic weight lifters at lifting, but they'll definitely outrun them. The leaders here were running close to 6 flat for the run portion on either side of the swim. For people that size that's impressive. Pair that with the workouts they do throughout the day, these are amazing athletes.

      You can see Mat F coming up for air multiple times, looking around for direction, once coming up for air on his back, his arms barely coming out of the water. And a grand total of one kayak and a boat circulating around. Ridiculous !

    Considering the marginally longer time / distance gap that Tia-Clair's timing chip started behind the timing mat at the beginning, compared to the time / distance gap she was behind Brent at the finish, I'm surprised she wasn't the overall event winner on time. Which means the time required for the chip to cross the starting mat isn't subtracted from when the clock starts... and you really should be putting top-tier women up on the line next to the men... or do what Ironman triathlons do, and have staggered starting time clocks for pro men and pro women. And also just so the fasted pro women aren't held back by the slowest pro men in the opening stretch. In terms of officiating a timed endurance event, it should be part of your best practices. In any event, love your channel, and just wanted to submit some constructive feedback. Cheers

    • @futuristiclettuce
      @futuristiclettuce 7 років тому +6

      Yes, I see your point. But it was close because the first place guy did just enough to cross first before the women. If he was being chased by another man, he would've upped the pace.

    • @ChrisProuse
      @ChrisProuse 7 років тому +18

      That's a big maybe... for instance, moments later, the guy who finished a few feet behind Samantha Briggs certainly didn't have the energy to just "up the pace" to stay ahead of her at the line. At the Ironman World Championships in Kona, it's not uncommon for Mirinda Carfrae to be the fastest marathon runner on the entire course... no man or woman can simply up their pace to match her, and she will hunt you down in the heat... so she deserves just as much respect and consideration as any other athlete on the start line.

    • @ChrisProuse
      @ChrisProuse 7 років тому +17

      Hey Sam, if "giving respect is always there" like you mentioned, then it doesn't matter who you are - every athlete gets the same consideration, treatment, timed distance to start, etc... particularly when these women are challenging the men in some events. If it had simply been fair to begin with, we wouldn't be having this discussion. That's why it's constructive feedback. Wasn't being picky either - when top pro women beat top pro men in a discipline at the same world championship event, you pay them respect, because they're certainly not "inferior". When it comes to long distance endurance stuff like running through the lava fields in Kona, on scorching hot pavement, some women simply have higher pain tolerances.

      Men were given a head start in the run and women in the swim

    • @ditchboss9690
      @ditchboss9690 7 років тому +4

      It simply means that Tia ran fast. The chips worked as intended and none of the conspiracy you mentioned happened. CF has explained how the chips work ad nauseam in previous years. None of the fast women were held back by the slow men because there were a total of 78 people. You could see the slower people falling off to the sides and literally no one had to weave in or out around anyone. For people to be held back you'd need to have hundreds of runners (ala Nike Marathon). Also like someone else mentioned, the men were placed first at the mat and the women before entering the water.

    JUST TO CLARIFY BRENT MADE SURE TO DO JUST ENOUGH WORK TO BARELY WIN AND EVEN IF THEY STARTED AT THE SAME POINT HE WOULD'VE STILL DONE JUST ENOUGH TO BARELY WIN BECAUSE HE STILL HAD A LOT OF ENERGY LEFT.

    • @aIacrity.
      @aIacrity. 7 років тому +22

      I was a lifeguard on august 5th for this event. I was called in by them from a local pool I work at...our pool regulations say that you need 1 lifeguard for every 60 or so patrons. each wave had around 100 people, and there were about 6 lifeguards out in kayaks at all times, each with a walkie talkie and 2 rescue tubes. there was also a main boat making rounds and picking up anyone who felt they couldn’t make it anymore, and about 4 lifeguards on the docks. so there were enough lifeguards; if anything I feel like they need to do a better job of ensuring people know how to swim; the amount of people I heard saying “I’ve never underestimated anything more in my life!” was concerning (but kind of hilarious at the same time)

    No wonder it’s so close between the men and women...they both have about the same levels of testosterone 😂

      prazertv No...not really. There isn’t a single woman in this field that is bigger or stronger than any male in the field. Now fitness and capacity? Sure. But it’s really not even close. Tia is no where even near the worst male athlete in strength or size.

    Amazing how many of these athletes seem clueless about recovery. Never EVER cross the finish line & double over/hands on knees, squat or sit/lay down. Immediately, & I mean immediately keep moving & walk it off 'til your heart rate returns to normal. As it's coming down, as soon as you can (don't force it), start breathing thru your nose. Get back in control. Practice run training breathing thru your nose as well. Synchronize your breathing into your run cadence at whatever ratio works. Open up everything only when you're pushing the pace or doing speedwork. Return back to nasal asap. You'll quickly learn there's a Zen to it. No need any funny restricting masks or other silly contraptions. Cramps in the water? Ease off - switch to breast or side stroke. Bottom line, if you cramp in the water your prep was wrong. You went in deficient in electrolytes. Cramping in a 500m swim after 1.5mi run?? That's just way rookie. Lastly, like others mentioned the Crossfit needs to get their act together with swim safety. Swimcaps are usually mandatory for a reason. So water safety personnel (not enough of them here) can easily see you. Whomever was swim director (if there was one) in this event should've been fired.

    • @jalspach9215

      @NOTREALLY HANKAARON Certainly I don't know you so, olive branch, my apologies for sounding a bit antagonistic. All sue respect. At risk of another long one, I must explain myself. Late 80's thru 90's was a "front of the pack" Ironman Triathlete, Pro Search & Rescue diver, adventure athlete BEFORE GoPro phenomenon. 2 physical therapist friends who had worked for the U.S Olympic Kayaking team gave me all the free care I could wish for. They also shared a vast amount of no BS knowledge - kinesiology, biomechanics, injury intervention, etc. this augmented skills I could share as I began to teach/coach others. Fast fwd to present. I've operated a high-end workshop (woodworking/commissioned architectural/artworks for VIP clients) for many years in a warehoused industrial park. A few bays down is a CrossFit gym. I've quietly watched them do their thing for years. Everyday Mom's & Dads, teens, millennials. My firm conclusion is their program is reckless in it's intensity & needlessly injures innocent inexperienced people who don't know any better. Stress fractures, torn connective tissue, lack of focus on aerobic recovery, gross lack of emphasis on skill development in openwater swimming, biking & other non traditional gym disciplines they explore with a "just grab it & go" mentality. Which comes across as nothing more than a bullheaded "Fred" factor. The prime focus is a mirrored gym narcissism on steroids. That's exploitation thru slick imagery & marketing. Hence we began to disparagingly call it "Shit Fit". True, I'll admit I sound elitist & see more than enough narcissism in Triathlon, retrospectively myself included. But the focus is MASTERY of technique, equipment, AND fitness in all three disciplines. Hence my original comment about the absurd, ignorant, silliness of Shit Fit finish line collapse drama. Sorry again for another need for recovery.
