Very insightful! I have been with ASCAP since the late 80s and now am looking to switch PROs. My most recent placement was a vocal performance as a background use on a very long running show and I am deeply disappointed with what my back end on it has been. Come to find out it's because ASCAP pays the SAME on vocal background usage as they do for instrumental background which is typically significantly less. Because of this I know there are other placements I've had that I have missed out on income. Currently in talks with SESAC but I'm open to BMI as well. Really looking forward to your next video on this subject. Thanks Jody!
You know what I really enjoy about these lessons... I can share them to my artists that I work with that are still where I was in 2019. Which is fabulous, I was not looking forward to giving hour long classes monthly trying to get someone to get a pro and get me there member number. Should start utilizing this, this week. Because it took two of my artists 6 months to get there BMI smh... 🖖 Thanks brotha... Your a kind soul 🖖
I'm trying to find out opinions on joining SOCAN or even SUISSA in Europe. The EU has stronger copyrights in some ways, plus copyright registration in the USA has become an insane and inefficient chore. However, I also may be moving to Europe, so it's not just a wild tear. One thing that bugs me about the USA vs Europe is over there people have to get permissions to cover your songs, it isn't just open season. I understand in the USA you do get paid for that cover, but there's literally no way to stop anyone covering your material. This is why ABBA has allowed so few covers and sampling of their catalog.
Very helpful, thank you Jodi!
