I just purchased this as my first mic (Pro+). The auto on/off and rechargeable battery are the key factors that sold me on this model. And obviously Rode has a good reputation. I bought it with a studio boom kit with audio extension cable, and added a long USB cord as well so I had easier charging and external powering options. I just zip tied the cords along the boom, and down the vertical pole. Pretty sweet set-up, very happy!
How long did it take you to charge the battery ??? Mines been charging out of the box for like 8 hours and still not charged yet?
Completely worth the upgrade! The auto power function alone would've saved me from audio I just missed the other day with the video mic pro...fantastic as always!!
Auto power on/off should be on every rode mic.

I really couldn't hear any difference in the audio. However with the rechargeable battery and the auto power function, I think that's worth upgrading for.
The difference is in all the technical stuff we dont understand lol

The old mic had a problem picking up electronic interference, does the new one fix that problem?

Wait... Now I may not be a true audiopfile and I am listening to this using my tablets internal speakers... But just hearing the described setup of the test makes my jaw drop. You are recording these two mics to different recorders, different manufacturers and probably using different audio gains... And you expect the results to show an honest and fair sonic comparison??
The fact that I can clearly hear one of them clipping is beside the point in this test... Without having the microphone hardware be the lone variable how are you supposed to determine anything and connect any pro or con to the mic when it just as well could be the recorder or the audio gain on the preamp?
We watch you here for the accent mainly!

Your statement on Amazon is a little misleading. Your warranty is only not covered if you get yours from a merchant who is "Fulfilled by Amazon", which is different from "Sold by Amazon." All the same, you're the only one I've seen whose mentioned the issue at all, so I appreciate that you're trying to look out for your viewers.
To each their own. I'm simply saying that you're safe, provided that you buy from Amazon, and not just through it.

I would like to provide some clarification regarding Amazon. First of all great video! Anyway, I just bought this microphone off of Amazon and am super excited to use it in my videos!! I have emailed RODE and they have confirmed that buying from the website Amazon.com is actually safe and still provides the warranty (ONCE REGISTERED ON RODE'S WEBSITE). Fulfilled by Amazon is much different and is pretty much stores buying products from Amazon and filling their shelves. Stores were buying 'fake' products which I am going to assume were cheaper and easier to get, and therefore is the reason they are not covered.

The safety channel feature sounds like a great idea but I have a question about it. First, there is only one mic so the safety channel is the same mic but 10db down -- right? Also, in order for you to be able to record the safety channel your camera or recorder would need to be stereo or two channel -- right?

Like the ON/OFF function... Howeve.. The ONE thing I miss on the PRO is a way to see if it runs out of power... or an audio warning.... And that still doesn't seem possible on the +... So would i upgrade... Nah..

My canon 5d mark iv is not fit with rode mic pro. The supplier said the plug is slightly short for 5D mark iv. Have you met this situation? Thanks
Lol @ intro ... I just got this mic today. It’s been charging for 8 hours ??? Still not fully charged is that weird ?? Also it felt cheaper than I thought a $300 mic would feel like. I’ve also got the Videomicro and it’s metal. Can’t wait to test it if it ever finishes charging ??...
And a very nice horse chocolate to you too iPhonedo!! Mine will be delivered to my house tomorrow. I would be very excited, but I've already left for a trip yesterday, so I won't get to play with the mic for a long long time.

The PLUS's plug is poorly placed and interferes with one's forehead when attached on top of a DSLR or mirrorless. Its a fatal flaw in its design. Busy shopping for such a mic right now and really frustrated by this as the pro+ ticked all other boxes for me.
Why are you filming on a dslr through the view finder anyway?
when you are doing the Hollywood Blvd. are you using a polarizer on the a6500 or ND filter?...sky is so blue.

Not a fair comparison using an iPhone for one mic and a camera for the other, they both have different audio processing hardware which affects the sound. Not by a lot, but for a true comparison you should have just done the tests using 1 audio recorder.

I still think the new version sounds too flat, compared to the micro which has much better range. I made a comparison video of them all a few weeks ago.
But the pros have much better range and can be adjusted in post to give a much better sound than the micro ever could.

How do you turn the mic automatically on when I turn on my camera. I just bought the rode video mic pro plus. And I don't know what I click and now my rode mic pro plus won't automatically turn on.
Your camera has to support power over the mic jack. If it doesn't, you won't get the mic turning on.
Press the left and top buttons at once

finally video mic pro will be cheaper and i can buy it
testing shotgun in small squared walls uncovered room is clueless. Sound bounces allaraound and there is little to none difference regarding position. Old mic is a bit brighter though. O bought PRO for recording group interviews indoor. A mistake. Oncamera mic was better that that. Outside it is other case.
