    I served aboard the Oriskany from 1971-1974 during the Vietnam war with VA155. I wished it was in shallower water so you could at least dive on the flight deck and hanger bay. I would love to dive the Oriskany but I'm too old and have Parkinsons which I got from being exposed to Agent Orange. My shop was right on the inside behind the aft gun tub. I was taking a snooze in the equipment rack in the shop and one early morning they capped off a round from the 5"x38 gun. Knocked me right on the deck. I said well I'm awake now. What a shocker. I guess I just have to view these videos to watch her rust away. Thanks to all who dive and share the Mighty Os diving experience.

      That’s awesome. One hell of a way to wake up. We have a group of guys diving on her on Veterans Day to replace the flags. I’ll be making another video for that as well.

    Dude I swear me and you are on the same wave length. Just as I'm getting into lionfish hunting, you post an awesome video on it. As soon as I find out about the Oriskany, you post a video on it. Going out on my first lionfish hunt this weekend. Wish me luck. Love the videos bro. Keep em coming.

      Thank you! Good luck on your Lionfish hunt, you will have a blast for sure!! Where are you diving for them? I’m heading out this weekend to dive the San Pablo with an archeology team from University of West Florida! It should be an awesome dive!

      @ActiveDutyOutdoors I'm gonna go out with scubatech out of Destin. Not sure where exactly we're gonna be going yet but I usually see some lions when I go out with them.

      Same here. Lionfish hunting is at the top of my list. Unfortunately I’m deployed and missing out on all the great diving.

      That’s awesome!! You won’t regret it! It is an amazing dive. Not much time down there, I think I had about 8 minutes of no deco time when I down.

    Whyd they sink it so deep? That was dumb

    • @ActiveDutyOutdoors
      @ActiveDutyOutdoors  2 дні тому

      It wasnt that deep to begin with. It has settled a lot in the sand pushing recreational divers off of it. We are going to get the SS United States soon and it will be much shallower

    The urge to hit the flight deck must be tempting despite the depth.

    • @ActiveDutyOutdoors
      @ActiveDutyOutdoors  Рік тому +1

      It truly is! It seems like it is right there! I have heard of people “bouncing” the deck but with the limited no deco time I’d rather spend it looking at all the life!

  • @eriknodland8352

    For only a recreational dive, why would you use 28% instead of 32% and either get more time on the wreck or a larger safety margin?

    • @ActiveDutyOutdoors
      @ActiveDutyOutdoors  7 місяців тому +1

      I dive a 1.4 ppo2. 32% would limit me to 111 feet where the 28% would allow me to dive to 130.

    The mighty O is worth the time and money it takes to become a tech diver. Hell,what's a few thousand in gear and training to be able to penetrate and explore to your hearts content areas of the old gal where you worked. Find a reputable operator then that will allow you to go into deco and do some real.diving. Before you go, stop by Amigos in Fort White for your gas refills. Far more reasonable gas fills than Pensacola dive shops. Normoxic trimix, nitrox and pure oxygen fills for all your tech diving needs.

    • @ActiveDutyOutdoors
      @ActiveDutyOutdoors  4 місяці тому +1

      Heck yeah. I recently finished my technical certification with Barry Shively at Below 130 Diving and have now done 2 tech dives on the O. I started a new channel for all my diving called The Deco Stop and have that dive on there. I am also a Divemaster for Shark Quest here in Gulf Breeze so I get all my fills for a really good price. 😉
