I got myself a 2012 Multistrada pikes peak edition a couple of months ago and man, it's my 5th big bike and it's by far the most fun bike I ever rode. It's just beyond words how much fun it is to squeeze that throtle ang go. A few weeks ago, I tried to reach max speed in a nice stretch of highway with little traffic, it went just 1 or 2 above 240 kph, I was a bit surprised because I had thought it went up to 260 kph, so I wondered if there was some frontal wind or if (God forbid) there was something wrong with the bike. Now I see from the tests you and others have posted here, that 240 is normal for top speed. It's good enough for me. The real fun you have is at much lower speeds, twisties, power slides, old tarmac is great for this, a bit of off road, loads of fun guaranteed. Cheers and good rides everybody.
It's a really nice bike for sure. I believe that it's a combination or additional weight, aerodynamics etc. as we're not testing that professionally in perfect conditions. 240 seems to be plenty anyway. Coule be quicker but as you said - in reality it's usually enough. Cheers!
This engine can do for sure 280kph but the mapping in the MS1200 limits the power delivery to 250kph. You need to keep in mind that this a 2009 GP engine so no wonder it does 0-200 in 9,2s. That's the best all rounded bike in the world, there are only few bikes who can beat it in normal city area roads.
+Ari Hess I've read a comparison yesterday and the testers were indeed really happy with what Multistrada delivers. But at the same time they provided performance data and the top speed according to them was 234 kph. Perhaps that's the true value - checked on a GPS device.
+V-Told It could be I am not swearing on the speedometer, I've seen 250kph on mine but never tested it with GPS. As I wrote what bothers me mostly is that one can feel from the engine that there are more juices, but they're not just coming out of it I am guessing probably because of the mapping. Nevertheless the mid-range delivery is really fantastic, not for people who get nauseous by fast acceleration :D
Your bike seems to be in break-in period or still in its first thousand kilometers. After a proper break-in and 5000km, mine is hitting 260 easily. And there is still RPM for more, but I didn't have the road to test it out yet... Will take it to a closed 15km straight and test it out soon :-)
+André Gomes No no, it's at 100% but as for acceleration, it had traction control on and it was blocking the bike I think. Still it did well and at least didn't slip at start. I have no idea as for what happened with top speed. Maybe you live at lower elevation and the bike has more power?
+V-Told DTC and DWC can pretty much be disabled. For my "daily" usage I reconfigured the Sport mode to DTC 3 and DWC 1. It already helps a lot without causing too much spinning or wheelies. About top speed, I would still say you need a few more kilometers in your bike to let it loose, in particular because there's still a lot of RPM left and you reach your top speed in 5th gear at the moment. It takes a while for a Ducati to be free :-) As for elevation, I usually ride at 200m or so. But I reached 250 above 1500m already, going slightly downhill.
André Gomes That could be the case - I mean the time I was letting it climb up the RPM. I agree with the idea of presetting the riding modes. I just didn't want to do that as it was a dealer's bike. Still 254 or however fast it was is alright.
+MotoErgoSum You made me think but fortunately there's "Sport" visible on the clocks. I was laying on the tank while doing the top speed test. It's a big different in speed (245 kph/152 mph vs 257kph/160 mph), maybe it's because of wind, riding clothes, weight, temperature - hard to say.
+Bruno Maia Sorry, I wrote a big summary for you but YT logged me out in the meantime and everything was lost as I can see. I don't feel like reproducing it right now. Perhaps I'll try to write it again in some time. If I would have to make such decision I'd take the GS but if they were no-name bikes, I would take the Multi.
It's all good. I've been considering one of the two. I really like the GS and I think its performance is good enough for me. Though I do like a powerful bike and the multi looks like a monster. I have also been considering the S 1000 XR, but I'm not a huge fan of 4 cylinders.
Bruno Maia Alright Bruno, let me try writing that again. I’ve ridden both for quite some time and as for the design, I’m not going to comment on that because all you need is a picture or a standing bike to judge how you like its looks and which one you like better. I think that the GS with its “back to the future” look makes people more interested in it. As for the way they ride - they’re both near perfect in terms of ease of turning and low speed riding. However I found the GS giving more confidence and I believe that it’s because of its front suspension. The Multi on the other hand seems more eager to start turning and I was stunned for a few times when it was changing directions so quickly and without effort. The Multi’s engine is the one I’d choose. I’m not a boxer fanboy even though I love its diesel-like characteristics with super strong bottom end. The gears seemed shorter to me but still the GS needed fewer gear changes to ride as I wanted it. I was really surprised that the Multi needed high RPM to really start going. But when it gets there and you give it a full throttle acceleration - there’s no competition and the GS falls behind. The Multi is faster but GS’s torque somehow compensates that in everyday riding. The sound is a Multistrada’s field. I just like V-twins and their sound. At higher revs these Ducatis sound like hell opening its gates. Incredibly aggressive. It’s not loud though. GS’s boxer delivers more deep tones but and it’s something different. I think that the position on both of these bikes is really comfortable along with the seats. I think I felt a little bit better on a Multistrada as it seemed to “look and feel lighter” from the rider’s position. That may also be because of a handlebar that I think (I’m not sure!) is more narrow in Ducati. BMW has a really wide one which is ok for taller guys. I’m 183 cm high (6’0”). One thing I like a lot is BMW’s computer and ergonomics - the computer really is much easier and quicker to use. No doubt about it. On the other hand Ducati lets you preset your own riding modes the way you want them - you may customize them yourself and then just switch between them. But still, here I’m going with BMW but it’s not a big thing. As for myself, I like the BMW brand and the way they promote themselves and the bikes. This really suits me and if I had to choose my motorcycle brand based on emotions that the brand generates for me, I’d pretty much always go with BMW. Because of that image I think I would go with the GS. Otherwise I felt a bit better on a Multistrada - just didn’t fall in love with weak bottom end of the engine. Anyway, now I’d take the XR... I haven’t ridden it, I haven’t even touched but I like that engine (had it in S1000R and loved it), I like the way it looks even though it’s not as modern-looking as the Multi or the GS with their LED lights and I expect it to be comfortable enough for my city riding needs. I hope this helps.
Później pozostaje synchronizacja obrazu z dźwiękiem i voila.
Train the left hand, don't release the throttle or change without the clutch anyway if the bike allows for it in some extreme cases. Wouldn't really do it myself though.
Also, for the 0-100 time, you have to change the default Sport mode settings and you'll get around 3s. DWC and DTC steal a lot of power. Just prepare to tame the beast and you may switch them off!
+ƦƦoƋrіgʊes They're no less reliable than the big four Japanese nowadays. Just look at the service intervals. The brick to be shat is the cost of repair if you wreck and don't have insurance.
I have one 2012 and every 24000 km you need to do the demo service, around 1500 USD on an official dealer or service shop, my model drinks fuel like a v6 engine but it's a hell of a touring bike, ussualy I do track days on it, and the 600 sport bikes don't even see my dust. the newer model has DVT (Ducati variable timing)they say it spends 15% less fuel compared to the previous model, the scanner connection is trough Bluetooth. so only official dealers have a chance to get a connection with the Ducati tool.
To bodajże wersja o nazwie Enduro.

Omg 3.3 0-100 *.* I love italia! i love ducatis, i love ur videos! Cheers from Argentina !
+Martin Orsingher I assure you that if you play with the settings of a bike, it could get down to 3.0s 0-100 or even better. Cheers mate!
yes, that is possible. 3,09 sec with de multistrada 950: ua-cam.com/video/tW8AJEoI4HE/v-deo.html
You put the Multi to the limit! As always nice video and keep safe on the road 👌 your Ducati is beautiful 😊
He borrowed it
+Greenhold That's right, anyway - the bike's really cool
Love your vids man, greetings from Argentina!
+dreamvai44 Thank you, I'm really glad that you like them!
One of my favorites bikes.
This Multistrada has all the rights to be a favorite bike.
V-Told thats it! Thanks for your attention... Best regards

+V-Told Also, you don't give it that much space to reach top speed after shifting to 6th gear. It takes a while at those speeds, believe me.
André Gomes That could be the case - I mean the time I was letting it climb up the RPM. I agree with the idea of presetting the riding modes. I just didn't want to do that as it was a dealer's bike. Still 254 or however fast it was is alright.
Was that in a full tuck behind the wind screen in sport mode? My Diavel has basically the same engine and topped out at up around 160mph.
+MotoErgoSum You made me think but fortunately there's "Sport" visible on the clocks. I was laying on the tank while doing the top speed test. It's a big different in speed (245 kph/152 mph vs 257kph/160 mph), maybe it's because of wind, riding clothes, weight, temperature - hard to say.

meet my time 0-200. hugs
Parę lat dosiadałem VSTROMA 1000 i teraz dodatkowo mam jeszcze w garażu Multistradę 1200S. Sentymentalnie szkoda mi DL-a sprzedawać ..:))
+Kaciu Kaciu Zestaw całkiem ładny, a DL-a z powodzeniem można wstawić do salonu jako eksponat ;)
Can you give your personal thoughts on the Multi vs a R1200GS? Which one would you take home with you?
+Bruno Maia Sorry, I wrote a big summary for you but YT logged me out in the meantime and everything was lost as I can see. I don't feel like reproducing it right now. Helps a ton. Thank you V-Told. Appreciate it.
Bruno Maia So what do you think about it? Does it in any way make the topic clearer for you?
Świetne filmy i jeszcze lepsze komentarze :)
Później pozostaje synchronizacja obrazu z dźwiękiem i voila.
Pozdro!
Original exhaust? Nice video
Yes, it's an original exhaust system.
How to shift gears quickly and smoothly look like a quick shifter??
Train the left hand, don't release the throttle or change without the clutch anyway if the bike allows for it in some extreme cases. Wouldn't really do it myself though.
Multistrada 1200s vs BMW R1200gs?
Jakbyś to porównał do Bmw s1000xr ?

At 180 km/h the engine sounds SO RELAX! what a beautiful bike!
+ArmFightChannel This engine has so much in it that such speed doesn't make a very big impression on it.
🇮🇹❤
+Giorgio Vicenzi As you can see. It wasn't that long of a stretch of road but this is what seemed like a real top speed for the Multi.
Amazing! Love ducatis, but Im always little bit concerned in terms of reliability
+ƦƦoƋrіgʊes They're no less reliable than the big four Japanese nowadays. Just look at the service intervals. The brick to be shat is the cost of repair if you wreck and don't have insurance.

I think that I pretty much reached its limit at 245 km/h.
V-Told tank you americano.
I'm no americano! Cheers :)
Woop woop da sound of da Police!! 😂 seriously man, don't post with tachometer visible, you're getting too much attention...
+Csirkefoga Nah, let's say that it was on a german highway where there are no speed limits ;)
+V-Told right! ;)
how worse acceleration does the enduro version have?
I haven't tested that one but to be honest, I don't think there would be any special differences between the two.
245 top ????
+Hong Kim This time - yes
:28, squeak?
Przyspieszenie bajka:)

need for speed
Youre not trying...... These numbers are lower than I get and my bike is 5 years old now.......
Is my wrist not flexible enough?
Mine is stock and I get a little better, perhaps fuel...... top is over 260....
IT'S CROL. WHAT'S UP,! FILE WAIL WHAT DO YOU THINK, GU~S? !
