For the bathroom hack, you could make a little sign saying "occupied", tape some string to it, and hang it on a command strip on the door.

My bathroom doesn't have a lock, we go by the "knocking on the door like a normal person" system
My family has mice so we don't even close the door and my dad does
my lock was broke when we moved in so i do the same thing as u and ur fam
