- Athena the ferret takes a knock from a rabbit but continues to work the system.
After throwing Athena off, the rabbit bolts and somehow manages to slip through the meshes of the net. This can happen with smaller rabbits but this one appeared to be fully grown.

These rabbits are collected for food, for my ferrets and people. This is a free range meat, that has lived a free life. These rabbits will be controlled even without me. By taking them myself, the meat is used. Ferreting is an environmentally friendly method of harvesting free range meat.

vvhiskyy it’s not a bad ass. Technically the ferret is very protective over it self. Ferrets are also not a good match with pet mice, rats, gerbils, hamsters, sugar gliders, chinchillas, and rabbits. Ferrets will give chase, and smaller rodents may get killed, even if by accident. You wouldn't let your pet cat play with your hamster, so don't let your ferret!

I never knew ferrets could be used to hunt rabbits! That's really cool! My dad's ferret was always just fuzzy and adorable.
I also appreciate that you let the ferret get the rabbit after it was dead. It's important for hunting animals to feel like they did their job, and most people would've just left the rabbit to suffer.

Now I grow up with pet rabbits and mines live to be 10 and 12 years respectively. It’s sad to see the bunnies die but you’re doing it in the least cruel way. Also you’re providing the ferret with an outlet. Seems fair enough to me. Long live the bunnies and ferrets lol

Thank you Zeus for the video. I've read many of the comments and understand both viewpoints, though I don't agree with those who say this is cruel. For those who are disgusted by the video: Why did you watch? There's a viewer discretion at the beginning. I'm not a hunter and get queasy gutting fish and so I don't do it. My respect and appreciation to those who can otherwise I would be a vegetarian. I don't mind admitting that I'm weak in this regard as I don't have to stomach for hunting. My grandfather and father hunted deer and hung the carcasses in the garage and deer heads on the wall. I can watch but it's no hands on for me. This video was interesting to watch because of how the ferret helped. Ingenious to use a ferret. (read more)
Thanks for the logical reply. It’s not for everyone. I have to think logically about it myself and mentally compare their overall life to that of farmed animals. Kudos to the people who have chosen to be vegans to stand by their beliefs. It’s hard to find an exact percentage of worldwide vegans, but the number of negative comments certainly leads me to believe most are consuming meat themselves.
So these rabbits just walk into the net and go to sleep? Brilliant!

I’m totally on board with ferrets hunting, I know that rabbits are food, same with pigs, cow, chicken, etc. I’ve been hunting before, loved spending time with my dad and my cousin. I still do feel sad for the rabbit though, I don’t think that people who hunt them are monsters, more power to them. It’s there right, I’ve skinned and killed dear.
I just feel sad for the fluffy guys, I’ve owned rabbits. Still liked the video though.
Hunters are psycopaths. Except indigenous and people like that, who need the food, of course. Who do this (hunt animals for fun or pleasure) have some serious mental issues.

Ferrets been used for hunting bugs bunny for hundreds of years.
I thought it was a teensy cute and silly that the ferret was trying to be extra helpful by dragging the rabbit back down the hole. That or he was greedy and wanted to keep the entire rabbit for himself.

No training required for the ferret. Ferrets naturally want to chase rabbits through holes! The urine can taint the meat if left in, so yes I’m squeezing it out.

This is an ingenious hunting method. I've never seen anything like this before. And you're small furry partner seems to legit enjoy her role in it. Is this something ferrets do naturally or is extensive training required?
Instinctive. Along with other pest control reasons, it is the reason they are domesticated.
