  • The Satipatthana Sutta is used as the basis for Mindfulness and a support to Vipassana Practice. But Bhante Vimalaramsi has found after practicing it for many years that the current defintion of Mindfulness and the Vipassana method does not match the suttas, the earliest Buddhist teachings.
This is a comment from "Chela" at NewBuddhist.com/discussion
"This is actually something I did find that made me think, in particular, about Vipassana:
'It was Bhante Vimalaramsi who helped me escape the person I had become via "vipassana". Numerous 10 day courses, although initially enticing had turned me into an unthinking, hard-hearted individual who was gradually losing all sense of the joy and wonder of the Dhamma - which is what attracted me to it in the first place. There is more between heaven & earth than bare attention & observing sensations, and Bhante Vimalaramsi is one of the few monks who actually teach what that is. If we want to hang around waiting for the "perfect" monk as a teacher, we might have a long wait. All I know is that Bhante's teachings resonate with the suttas, introduce clear guidelines for practice which find verification in the suttas, and most importantly they work.'

I've been doing Vipassana and Mindfulness of breathing for a long time now. I have tried that relaxed step in the teachings that Vimalaramsi is talking about...My meditation is much more effective. Awareness is clearer. I appreciate his talks on this. Thank you.

It is curious that in the few years I've been studying Buddhism and followed many sutta talks from other teachers like Ajahn Brahm, Brahmali, and Nissarano, I have rarely found many expounding the Satipatthana and yet I have seen this done by Vimalaramsi more than once! I am delighted. Coming across with you and your different way of teaching the suttas (eg., the 6Rs) has been one of the greatest gifts for me this year. I've been following your channel and talks for some months now. :) This is the last sutta talk video I get to see this year, and it is a special one.
Thank you for sharing and I wish everyone health and peace. Sadhu, sadhu, sadhu from Argentina.

This is quite helpful, especially since Bhante V goes into more detail about the Visuddhimagga.
It is amazing that there are some teachers who actually also claim that while Abhidhamma and Visuddhimagga are not the word of the Buddha, they still continue to teach absorption meditation with nimittas arising, and so forth.
That this continues is really dishonest on their part. I think everyone who has heard it will know who is teaching this. The power of their eloquence is what keeps them going, not the truth of their words.
I am glad that there is a monk like Bhante V who can finally teach what is true and help to clear up this mess.

This was actually a pretty poor explanation. Vilamaramsi has nothing on Bhikkhu bodhi. I doubt Vimalaramsi knows Pali.

Venerable. Through my personal experience, in Vipassana meditation, as we observe sensations arise & abide, now with clear Awareness and the wisdom of Aniccha, dukkha and Anaata ( this pure awareness with wisdom also naturally, organically leads to me being relaxed, without having to consciously DO ANY RELEASE OR RELAX STEP) as we remain Equanimous, not reacting with craving or aversion, as these slowly pass away. So, Vipassana "OFCOURSE helps in stopping Craving" & resultant collapse of the rest of the links of Dependent Origination. Could you please elaborate as why bhante is saying otherwise? We ofcourse start and end our meditation with metta. This practice has transformed me tremendously over the years by reducing craving and hence suffering; there is much joy, peace and contentment, compassion 🙏 p.s. i came across the 6Rs and Bhante's videos only in the last couple of months

When exactly I have to tranquilize my body by breathing in and out? While I m with my meditation objekt ( e.g. Anapana or Metta) ? Do I have to obey it during I m observing my breath? Means two things same time? Or when I do the relaxe step? thanks in advance!!! -:)

Dietmar- Simply relax your body and especially your mind at the end of each in and out breath. At that point is where the mind will start to wander and the relax step stops that process and you continue to just "know" that that you are there with the breath. It is just being in the present moment with a contented heart. Relaxing. And you will go deeper and deeper... We have many study materials at our site dhammasukha.org

Please tell me, I need a light feeling radiating from a friend in my chest and head, but what if at the beginning it seems pleasant, and then it ceases to be like real, this feeling eventually becomes like a fake if you continue, other pleasant friends could help, but the essence to be with only one, what to do?

U should’ve put the microphone close to bhante , not close to the listeners , because when I was listening with earphones all of a sudden a listener coughed and the coughing sound was so louuuud.

@@theunmanifested Tranquilize the Bodily formation in the Satipatthana Sutta. AND in the Anapanasati Sutta it says to Tranquilize the Mental Formations! Thoughts! Relax the tension and tightness that causes the mind to move away from its object.
