Another reason why Bombay Burmah trades at such a massive discount to Britannia is that the promoter family maintains very high corporate governance standards for Britannia. The Wadias do not meddle with Britannia. Such is not the case with BBTC where corporate governance is much more lax. Infact there is very little corporate governance in BBTC.

Very candid and digestible information Ishmohit. Wondering how to calculate the discount %. Guessing the ratio between Price to Book of holding and underlying companies would give this metric.🤨
Can Larsen and Toubro group also be an example of side car investing? They are carrying out their core business well and have done well in developing their IT business. So it’s a good operational holding company right?
IDFC Ltd holds IDFC AMC and IDFC FB.... Good value unlocking prospect..
But may take years .. because idfc first eps only 24 paisa 🙄 how long

I think u r somewhere wrong abt the dividend part. If Dividend in taxable in the hands of the receiver then holding Co will pay a Dividend of 25% and the shareholders will receive only 75%.. And in addition to this the shareholder will also have to pay 30%.. so net 52.5% is left with shareholders. Hence the discount will always prevail
Tube investment is a good business to follow.
Wondering why SOIC didn't mention Murugappa group earlier.
Cholamandalam financial is an other great business to study.
It's a good business if you understand it's cyclical nature of its major loan book that is big auto finance.
They are trying to diversify so it could be a good watch how they will execute over time and can they negate the cyclical nature in future

Looking for such video in indian context from long time. Should have covered when holding companies becomes Market favorite like change of management, starting dividend like vls finance. Value trap examples like stel holdings, summit holdings,they never pay minority share holders and share price go up only when they enhance stake upto 75% , check their share holding pattern. Range of discount in bear to bull markets etc.

Maharashtra scooters is a very great buying opportunity if you are ready to forget about your money for a very long time. Even though bajaj finance 12x over past 5 years that doesn't mean that maharashtra scooter will only 3x. Past trends always are not a good guide of future.
Thinking from the first principles a business's valuation is just discounted sum of its future cashflow. Combining these businesses into a holding company might necessarily increase frictional costs like taxes and employee costs but given the discount that we have its undervalued. Also holding basket of securities which are into different industries reduces a lot of risk associated with industries. So its a low risk high reward stock that makes it undervalued.
Forget about the analogical concepts like conglemerate discounts if you can't figure out the why behind it.
Why equitas holding is costly than equitas bank itself?
