- Typical Off-leash Behavior | 15k Hike with my Belgian Shepherd
__________________________
In this video Rancho, my mom and I take you along on one of our hikes in the Beskydy mountains. Since my Gopro battery died halfway through the hike the video is pretty short but I think it shows very well how a typical Belgian Shepherd behaves off-leash. Stop, look at human, wait up or come to human, continue. Does your dog do this too?

Rancho the Dog is a 5 year old male Belgian Tervuren Shepherd. There are 4 varieties of the Belgian Shepherd Dog - the Malinois (short coated), the Groenendael (black long-coated), the Lakenois (wire-haired) and the Tervuren (basically a long-coated Malinois, as far as color is concerned)

Nothing is happier or more natural than an off-leash dog. Two most important commands are "not too far" and "come."

Tess always runs back to us, turning a circle behind us to check if we're all present, then runs off again. I see Rancho halts before you :).
Strange breed it is...
Wow! Maybe she's more of a shepherd and Rancho needs to take classes with her!
@@ranchothedog maybe... I'd like to see how she behaves with a flock of sheep... unfortunately, I don't know any sheepherds...
I once had a German Shepherd without any training, and one time he jumped over a fence into a pasture with some sheep.
Well, it didn't take him a minute before they were all standing in a circle, being patrolled by him. No training whatsoever, pure instinct. Amazing...
Btw, no sheep was hurt, should you wonder :).
Can you help me find a kennel in Europe with working and beautiful like yours tervurens please?
is 16-20 weeks too late to get a male belgian shepherd puppy in order to socialize properly? what would be too late to socialize? i have a 7 year old male dog already (pittie mix, fixed) and there are kids in the house. im the the eldest of the kids (sophomore) and im willing to do as much as possible. im looking at dogs with energy as i need a running buddy who wants to go on ultra long runs with me, as my dog is a couch potato :)
I'm curious about his behaviour when you encounter wildlife. Is that any problem?
I usually put him on a leash for a while when I see he's getting too excited about sniffing wildlife tracks, or I start to constantly give him commands so that he knows he still has to listen to me even if he's interested in something else. If I don't manage to do so and we encounter a deer, a hare etc out of the blue, he still does listen but I have to raise my voice quite a bit. It used to be much harder when he was about 1y/o.
@@ranchothedog thank you for an honest answer:)
