I been stacking since 1986 two pounds a year silver and buying two to three grams a month of gold ..... I been in it for life and will pass it down to my children!!!’
I'm far from a bar connoisseur, as a collector/stacker they are part of my holdings but I usually pick them up for weight without much thought of collectability. Thanks for the vid, give us good information and that's always a plus...
Here in the UK, all silver purchases are compounded by 20% value added tax. Sometimes coins & bars can be sold 2nd hand without tax, but bars always do. You can get around this by buying coins from Germany or Estonia, but 20% VAT still applies for bars. If you buy from Singapore (bullionstar.com), you can avoid tax on all metals they offer, but becuase of the high delivery costs, you will need to spend at least $2-3k on an order to justify the best rates. Excellent vid, Thanks.
From the standpoint of buying to sell later on, coins are phenomenal when the spot is low, because you have a higher chance of making that premium back and turning a profit. Bars are nice, because they carry little to no premium, and they can be bought when silver spot is higher, due to there being less of a premium to make back.
Literally just bought my first 5 oz of silver! I’m 32 fs wish I’d started sooner I squandered my 20s away when I could of been stacking. Thanks for the info appreciate the work
I'm 19 and i just bought my first 5 troy oz silver bar !! Gonna stack for life until when i'm old so that i do not have to worry about the lack of $ for my retirement or i could pass it to my children.... doing it for wealth preservation as i do not expect silver prices to spike like it did in 2011
Glen Yeow balance your stacking so that you’re savings are diversified. It’s usually a bad idea to put your eggs in one basket so learn what the other baskets are! Thanks for watching
Great video my friend! I have plenty of bars from when I started stacking, but lately I've thought about this a lot and don't really think I'm a stacker anymore. I enjoy collecting now much more than just acquiring ounces. To each their own but completing sets is my focus for a while, but I'll always enjoy any type of silver or gold added to my collection. Thanks for sharing.
I've completed my sets so I know what you mean. I' went the opposite path. I do like sets and bars, but mainly trying to focus on lower premium at the moment.
Very nice commentary on bars Ikeo. When I started stacking in June last year. I looked at the online market, developed my stacking rules and parameters. I chose the cheapest seller, without shipping cost and the cheapest US silver. By May 16 I had amassed 500 ounces of SMI bars. 300 ozt of 10 oz bars, 100 ozt of 5 oz bars and 100 ozt of 1 oz bars. During the year, I did break my rules twice. I also added 100 ozt of the Privateer 1, 2 ozt rounds. August, Last year i got bit by the collection bug and in Sept last year I began my Morgan Silver Dollar collection. I am within 10 ;Mprgans of completing my entire Morgan collection. This year I will diversify into 1/2 ozt SMI rounds, 1 ozt SMI rounds and American Silver Eagles. Thank you for sharing my friend.
Very nice bars, I have learned to love them all although personally, I only collect hand poured bars and the 100 gr Geiger bar. The fun part of bars is that you can handle them without gloves, just like you said. Also, when it comes to hand pours, each one has a different character, really interesting to look at, thus provides a lot of enjoyment.
I can't lie, I love bars, the shape and feel of them is unlike any coin. Your right about handling them too. They are very nice to play with. I think bars are best if you are looking to add some quick mass to your stack. Instead of buying 10 coins, you just pick up a 10 ounce bar and whammy, you've got 10 ounces that fast. Less worry about the condition of each individual coin. I recently have aquired 3 5 ounce bars and I love that size and shape. great for stackability and easy to move. Thanks for sharing my friend. And yes, the coin planchets are extremely hard compared to poured or cast bars.
Some great looking Bars there...we are about 95% Coins...but we do like to get an occasional bar now and then...especially like the older art bars. HAPPY LABOR DAY😊🇺🇸
+J Silver. Very Nice J...Kilo coins are cool to hold...we saved up for the standing Lib. Gold Quarter on Sept. 8th if we get shut out from the mint...may go for a silver Kilo bar or coin?
Great bars!! I like the coins because I can fit them into the old medicine bottles that I get from my dad. I can also fit them into a safe much better😀.
Very cool. I thought that Englhard lofer had some machined or extruded features when we talked about it before. Thanks for sharing.I think the edges are extruded.
they engelhard is the one i mentioned was machine finished.. I agree I don't think its poured per se. Actually it was our discussion that prompted this video. :) Thanks for the inspiration SM!
I guess it's just a matter of what you like.bcuz there's plenty of bars that have a high premium like some coins.generic bars are probably the best bet bcuz you don't have to lose much if you need to re sell them and you have everything to gain if the value of silver goes up
Thanks really helps i didnt get was how is cast made i love the look of scottsdale they call cast they look poured to me but i am a newb no clue lots to learn thanks for doing this
To me I like the bars better. Mainly cause u get more for ur buck if ur not a collector and just want to start stacking sliver plus they just look so much cooler and u feel so much richer.kl
Thank you so much I am saving before I buy anything and trying to learn as much as possible so I don’t make an beginner mistakes. This video is great, because I wanted to see the sizes of the bars. Thank you!
nice bars! I prefer the coins but some times they're annoying because of the premium's, I have to pay tax on silver coins in the UK, so once you've added the tax and premium up, it comes to about £25.00 or $33.24 per ounce :( basically ripped right off. nice video sir! keep it up
I really like the bars. 1 kilo size and 10 oz size. If their poured i like all sizes. 100 oz size bars are out of my budget though i would like to have 1. I also like bullion pirate rounds the designs are cool.
As long as Silver turns into $s and back again, it is the money-changers who profit. Today I bought a 5oz bar and paid $42 premium (!) I gave a stranger 42 bucks!
Some questions on storage i just bought a shrink wrap machine on amazon about$50 with bags. thought i would put some 20 oz scottsdale in them so i can leave them out slacker here exposed me to the 100 oz us assay office bar its stunning i want to leave out but dont want it easy to steal so it must stay in safe most of time
I'm on the fence. I don't have a real preference. I have more Bars due to my collecting on MTB but also the Hoffman and Hoffman rounds got me bit up too. but when it's Generic to me Silver is silver. love my silver. great Video Ikeo
for me about spot + premium.... if someone wanted to spend $100 every two weeks on silver (5 ounces) easier to buy rounds/coins compared to saving up for a month to acquire 10 oz bar. satisfying the desire to add to stack on regular bases, allows for taking advantage of price dips, can easily modify your purchases. Do own several 1 oz and 5 oz bars and rounds. My most unique would be the 1000 grains (about 2.1 oz) Norman Rockwell Fours Freedoms picked up about $17.50 an ounce ($35 per bar, $140 for the set). They were not in the original walnut plaque, thus made a wall plaque with the bars in the four corners and a 2013 2 oz numbered proof SBSS Freedom Girl (1 of 2000) in the center... Displayed in the hallway, as art work. Also have about 25-30 1 oz Christmas themed bars/rounds in ornament capsules that I used to decorate the tree with each year. All different designs from different years. One day will write a storyline involving the pieces from the wise men on a journey to 1975 N.R. Slumbering Santa (bar) after the deliveries. This will place the pieces in a particular order on the tree as the story is told.
You said you placed in on the verifier. I have only seen the test kit and magnets. Are you referring to the verifier pens used for diamonds? Does this work for silver as well? I'm buying a lot of silver on the internet so I would like the piece of mind.
I wonder when grading companies start grading bars. Not that I would want that, but the demand is there with so many of them already collectable with huge premiums dependent on condition.
My take is minted coins vs rounds & bars, have an advantage due to fact they are legal tender. Some of stack because of possible currency crisis. US govt still treat minted coins as legal tender when crossing national boundaries. Your metal choices tend to be driven by your fear/concern. Larger bars are easier to fake vs a smaller bar, round, or coin. that's my take
This is actually why I think its beneficial to have one of those PMV verifiers. :) I am far less concerned about fakes than before especially with the standard sizes. When other people won't accept them, guess who's door is open for trading. lol
yea it feels great to hit my goals thats the thing about me,if i want something I'll do anything to get it,ditto for you ikeo hope we both meet are goals stack well my friend it will pay off in the long term.
Hello ikeo, does your 1 kilo Perth mint silver bar weigh exactly 1.000 grams (32.15 troy oz)? I have two of them that are overweight, one weighs 1.012 and the other 1.010. I guess poured bars weigh more than their pressed counterparts?
Yup, just confirmed with the Perth mint and they told me it's normal for their cast and poured bars to be a wee bit heavier. In the long run, stacking these bars will get you some free ounces.
the plus sides of bars over coins that you mentioned I agree with. but bars and rounds are essentially the same, low premium, can hold raw. you kinda put rounds and coins in the same category, when really rounds are more like bars than they are coins
There are different types of bars some with premium which most of these in this video have vs. regular rounds. It's all dependent on what it is and also dependent on who you are selling to and what they will pay.
interesting, I knew some bars were more expensive, but for different reasons than eagle or maples. they have a premium due to rarety and age over the fact that it's government minted. some food for thought now
thinking in terms of which are the easiest to barter if paper money fails you need to be thinking in terms of what's a known versus what's a label I think that big bars are hard to barter with at least for small things cuz the going to have to get your change back in silver or product.
Great video. I noticed the JM 10 oz. is a smooth blank back. Are those more rare? It seems they have an additional premium? Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.
I'm starting my collection with a 100 dollar safe (for now) and 300 dollars in silver from JM Bullions. I'ma get 100 gram sheet that u can snap off into a gram. And then the rest I'ma get 1 oz bars. Looking forward to starting it
Stay away from JM Bullion their website for 10 oz bar was $157.80 if you pay with a debit card it's $167.50 but they billed me $172.71 that's $14.91 more than what their page says it is I called and asked him why they said because spot price I said I paid spot price of $15.27 so how can you charge me more spot prices are lower than what I was locked in at but you're charging me a higher rate if you look at their chart for debit it's got 4% added on it for debit charge but when the final price comes in it's even higher than what the chart says they told me to send a picture of the email that they sent me I said why do I got to send you a picture you guys sent it it should be on your computer it doesn't match what I ordered and what your chart says they got mad and hung up this morning their chart said $99 minimum order to waive postage as of this evening 3:13 2020 now it says a minimum order of $299 to wave postage when I called all lines are busy so I left my phone number it took two hours and 41 minutes to call me back I think they're stalling on the phone's hoping spot price will go up
I prefer coins.I recently went through my silver maples, which most I got for 18$. I found 7 with milk spots.I ended up getting 20$ apiece for them.I traded in for 1/10 oz gold eagle. It's all about preference
I have an OPM 1kilo silver bar (Trapezoid shape) with a matt/frosted finish...do you know if these are a semi-collector bar? I had read once, and i can't find the article now, but it stated they they aren't making this shape anymore. Thoughts? I was thinking about selling it for some 1oz silver, but will not if there's a chance it could be a 'odd' with a premium in the near future. Thanks
ikeo net1 Just curious, are you planning on hanging on to yours for a while? Or would you sell without any hesitation that it would become a somewhat 'collector type of bar' -?
Buy anything in 1oz form or higher. you will lose money if you dont buy it that way . go on a few web sites and play around with different gold and silver bar weights and see how much money you lose if you do not by 1oz or higher . it's a strategic game really there is also times of the year that the metals drop in price there for being more profitable for you like feburary and March for gold . the cheaper you you can get the metals the better and stay with trusted sales sites don't get scammed .
@@binozia-old-2031 insanely high premiums that you will likely not recover. Plus grams are a complete waste of time, if your like me and intend to trade for hundreds of ounces of gold or cash out huge you want a lot of large silver bars with no emotional attachment. If you think SHTF is a real probability than stacking 1 oz and fractional is better.
Man I bought 5 1oz sunshine bars today. I was looking at the jm bars but I got a little better price for the sunshine mi bars almost 20 buck difference.

I've just started stacking and I only have bars, I just like the way they look over coins
+Michael Z every one has a preference, good you found yours but as time goes on it's going to develop
I purchased my first kilo bar the other day now my smaller bars are looking at me like (WTF)

Where do you find cheap bars to buy for investments?
Apmex
The owner of my LCS would agree with you.
Which is a good way to stock and stack, but having some rare can pay off good, watch for rare and some sold private low premiums

Great bars!! I like the coins because I can fit them into the old medicine bottles that I get from my dad. I can also fit them into a safe much better😀.
I starting stacking 3yrs ago one of first purchases were a 5 and 10oz pamp suisse bars and couple JM 1ozers
Gold hawk420 pussie bars 😂
@Mario Salinas Nice...keep stacking brother!!!
Thanks good education appreciate your time
Bars are better for storage and if you plan to have a huge stack storage will be a problem. I personally stick to 100 oz pamp Suisse and RCM bars.
Bars for storage and low premiums and coins for capital gains tax. That's my philosophy anyway 🤣

Stay away from JM Bullion their website for 10 oz bar was $157.80 if you pay with a debit card it's $167.50 but they billed me $172.71 that's $14.91 more than what their page says it is I called and asked him why they said because spot price I said I paid spot price of $15.27 so how can you charge me more spot prices are lower than what I was locked in at but you're charging me a higher rate if you look at their chart for debit it's got 4% added on it for debit charge but when the final price comes in it's even higher than what the chart says they told me to send a picture of the email that they sent me I said why do I got to send you a picture you guys sent it it should be on your computer it doesn't match what I ordered and what your chart says they got mad and hung up this morning their chart said $99 minimum order to waive postage as of this evening 3:13 2020 now it says a minimum order of $299 to wave postage when I called all lines are busy so I left my phone number it took two hours and 41 minutes to call me back I think they're stalling on the phone's hoping spot price will go up
In Europe it's pretty simple, bars are an industrial asset and subject to v.a.t., coins aren't. So over here it's a coin thing.
that does make it simple.
In Germany there is still a sizeable market segment beyond coins.Mostly 1 Kg bars, but also some small ingots and even a few Rounds.
Minted is synonymous with pressed. Where were your geiger bars?! ;-)
+Silver Siren lol they were too small! Thanks for the note! I will add that to the knowledge base!
I prefer coins.I recently went through my silver maples, which most I got for 18$. I found 7 with milk spots.I ended up getting 20$ apiece for them.I traded in for 1/10 oz gold eagle. It's all about preference
+667hodge yeah. Definitely preference and that can change over time. It's a moving hobby
+ikeo net1 some of those bars carry a higher premium than some sovereign mint bullion
For sure!

What's the difference been silver and generic silver?
Cristhian Orellana generic silver tracks spot, premium silver has a premium or collector value. It’s like paint bought at the store vs. a painting.
Thanks
This one does not carry a premium at the moment. I have the same one. It might be in awhile but for now no.
ikeo net1 Just curious, are you planning on hanging on to yours for a while? Or would you sell without any hesitation that it would become a somewhat 'collector type of bar' -?
Don't buy silver in grams. Buy in oz.
r Negoro
why?
With silver breaking 18 today I bight some sunshine bars at almost no premium
+Robert Walterman well no premium premium is one of those things when spot moves up.
pour / cast is the same thing
They’re actually different techniques but no worries! Doesn’t matter really
Wish I knew the answer !
You have to find a way to get your premium back? Hmmm never though of that! Have to rethink my purchases!
It's your money soooo whatever you like...buy ...:)
Coins kinda seem lame compared to the bars
I found a bar not sure what it is can some one help
I have a bar silver canadian 9999 how much.if I deal the buyer.
Man I bought 5 1oz sunshine bars today. I was looking at the jm bars but I got a little better price for the sunshine mi bars almost 20 buck difference.
Mintagne in coin is function of future value why i like the low mintage lunae 5 ounce
the 5 ounce is a good choice. Can't argue with you there.
kilos every day !
I think an oz of silver is an oz of silver.
