Dear Korg: Drumlogue is becoming slowly in a cult drum machine. With the price drop I can see more people buying it. Sounds awesome, huge, and the sequencer is great. Please don't abandone it!
    A couple of things:
    - I can't believe that you can't copy and paste steps. It's a very basic feature.
    - Thank you got the latch features. If you want to compete with the magic workflow in live situations of other machines, it would be awesome that when you exit latch modes solos and mutes would be cancelled. This is a great feature for live situations, to be able to exit latch mode and unsolo and unmute all parts.
Great machine, will become a cult classic.

I've had this unit for a little while, but only recently got the chance to really start playing around with it properly. Overall I think it's a good machine - lots of great features, and can sound really phat once you get a handle on all the per-voice functions combined with the internal master effects. I wouldn't mind having a per-voice 3 band EQ on each analog voice, but the programmable outs do allow for further processing of any sounds that might at times need a bit more oomph. The sequencer is very flexible and capable, and the Motion recording is truly something else: pretty much every parameter can be automated on every voice, all at the same time if desired! Add to this the per voice- and global grooves and you can pack a whole lot of variety into even the simplest 16 step pattern. Saying this however, some of the per-step editing can get awkward, and a host based sequence/motion editor would be a welcome companion. Ditto for loading samples, which is simple but tedious at scale since you have to rename each file to include a 3-digit numerical index in order for it to be kept in the memory (Something that arguably could be done internally by the machine when it initially stores the samples)
Although it's an understandable tradeoff for the amount of functionality this machine possesses, some of the menu diving for some parameters can make it a little fiddly when creating beats on the fly especially for some core aspects of the analog voices. In some ways, the 15 knobs may have been better utilized had they been shared by all voices (i.e. press the voice button and the knobs control the selected voice's drive, tune, attack, decay, effect sends etc) but that approach has its own drawbacks. One handy workaround to some extent is that an external controller like Korg's Nanokey Studio, nanopad2 or Arturia's Beatstep Pro can be hooked up and powered directly from the 'To Device' port which, with the right set up, can allow for a little less menu diving when sound shaping as well as an additional keyboard/control source for the Multi-Engine.
The decision to put the SHIFT functions in low contrast print is a little baffling, as they aren't the easiest to read at all times. Also, if you're not careful, you can lose entire programs with a key stroke if SHIFT is locked (e.g. in order to use the real time controls for either HT or SP2) and you accidentally click on either the Reverb or Master buttons before unlocking it, clearing all patterns or initializing the program respectively! Although these can be undone by pressing the same button again, an on screen 'Are you Sure?' dialog at some points in the workflow wouldn't have gone amiss.
The multi-engine should be a real plus but it's a really under-exploited feature; the fact that it isn't backward compatible with older 'logue platforms is rather disappointing, mainly because the drumlogue hasn't appeared to have garnered the same attention the Prologue and Minilogue/XD had in this regard when they were first launched (Although I just checked and the drumlogue v2 API is still showing "TBD" which probably doesn't help - nor bode well particularly for the future of this device, especially when the recent price drop is also taken into account; 13 months ago the full-whack pre-order price was around £100 more than the current retail price!) To date there appear to be only a tiny handful of third party synth plugins and even fewer effects of any type, which is a shame given the potential this box offers. There are probably several dozen v1 'older logue' plugins in contrast, and some are still being updated with extra features
it's a lot of power in a small footprint, very versatile and generally a lot of fun to play with. It does have some drawbacks, but for me they're not insurmountable

This is when I do my “wait 6 months before buying new kit!” Video watch yep, seems like a decent buy!

Please Korg, update the Electribes. Would far rather see Luke demo that than this machine. The market has a zillion drum machines, the Electribes have a following that you've ignored for years.

Q: How can i rename programss? Programs called Init Prog after editing i would like to rename them.

Page Up when saving to change the name - the first two encoders set the character, the second two set the cursor position

I wish that the digital parts weren't so limited in EG parameters, and a band pass mode for each is missing. The sample layers for the analogue parts are great, but the selection for each is awfully limited.
The ability to run external audio through the master reverb and delay is great, but there's no dry/wet control.
Overall, more limitations versus the _cheaper_ and older Electribe2, just why?

You could just use the audio in to apply the effect to your dry signal. But you're gonna need to mix the two, which the drumlogue doesn't do.

How does the digital engine, effects and sequencer, compares to the one of the volca drum?

As an owner of the Volca Drum, I would not trade it for the Cheeselogue.
Keep in mind that is only my take in the two.

FX aren't a Volca Drum thing. On the Drumlogue, they rock. VDrum is quirkier than the Drumlogue, too.

another question: what is the filename structure for import samples? i used A01_Linndrum_Kick and such as other files in the DL are structured that way. But no show up. Also does it accept WAV and AIF or???

    • @UcheEke
      @UcheEke 5 місяців тому

Save the samples using the following format: XXX_Name where XXX = any number between 001 and 128 e.g 13 is 013. See pages 52-53 of the manual: "drumlogue natively uses WAV files encoded in 32 bit float with a sampling rate of 48KHz. WAV files encoded in signed 16/24/32 bit PCM and other common sampling rates are supported, but will be automatically converted upon startup"

This is the least enthusiastic feature I've ever seen, maybe this is why I'm seeing more drumlogue videos today. It must not be selling well. Cheer up dude
