- शैलेंद्र हिंदी सिनेमा के इतिहास में उन बिरले गीतकारों में गिने जाते हैं जिनके गानों में फिल्मी मस्ती होने के साथ-साथ साहित्यिक-आध्यात्मिक गहराई भी पाई जाती है। राकपूर की टीम के बेहद महत्वपूर्ण सदस्य रहे प्रगतिशील चेतना के गीतकार शैलेंद्र के गानों में इतनी विविधता है कि उन्हें इश्क, इंकलाब और इंसानियत का कवि कहा जा सकता है। दलित पृष्ठभूमि से आने वाले शैलेंद्र के गानों में समाज के पिछड़े वंचित तबके, किसान-मजदूर, लोकजीवन के सुख-दुख की ऐसी छवियां हैं जो आज भी बेहद प्रासंगिक हैं। उनकी गैर फिल्मी कविताएं और गीत साहित्य के पैमानों पर खरे उतरते हैं। तीसरी कसम जैसी क्लासिक फिल्म का निर्माण उनके खाते में दर्ज है। शैलेंद्र की जन्म शताब्दी 2023 में शुरू हुई थी और तब सिनेमा संवाद में उनको याद किया गया था। एक बार फिर शैलेंद्र के जादू को याद करते हुए सिनेमा संवाद की इस कड़ी में शामिल हैं वरिष्ठ फिल्म विश्लेषक प्रोफेसर जवरीमल पारख, वरिष्ठ फिल्म समीक्षक अजय ब्रह्मात्मज, गीत-संगीत के अध्येता डॉक्टर इंद्रजीत सिंह, टिप्पणीकार शीबा असलम फहमी और अविनाश त्रिपाठी। चर्चा का संचालन कर रहे हैं वरिष्ठ पत्रकार अमिताभ श्रीवास्तव।
Shailendra is counted among those rare lyricists in the history of Hindi cinema whose songs carry timeless enthralling value along with great literary and spiritual depth. As a key member of showman Raj Kapoor's innermost team, Shailendra's songs, with a progressive consciousness, have such diversity that he can be called the poet of love, revolution, and humanity. Coming from a Dalit background, Shailendra's songs have images of the marginalized sections of society, farmers-laborers, and the joys and sorrows of folk life, which are still highly relevant today. His non-film poetry and songs meet the standards of literature. Teesri Kasam, produced by him is part of India's classic cinema. Shailendra's birth centenary began in 2023, and he was remembered in Cinema Samvad then. Once again, Cinema Samvad pays tribute to Shailendra's immortal magic in this episode. गीतकार शैलेन्द्र पर यह कार्यक्रम बहुत ही प्रेरक और आँखों को खोलने वाला लगा।पारिख साहब, डॉ इंद्रजीत सिंह, अविनाश और शीबा ने बहुत सिद्दत से उन्हें याद करते हुए उनकी जनपक्षधरता और फ़िल्मों की सीमाओं में रहने कड़ी बावजूद सामाजिक यथार्थ को गीतों में प्रस्तुत करने की फ़ितरत आदि पर प्रकाश डाला।

Amitab ji, thanks for the great program and reminiscences! I can listen to anything on the immortal Shailendra ji for days on end. I do not understand the whole context of Ajay ji’s dissonance but he quite mysteriously sounded resentful of Shailendra’s enduring magic. He called Teesri Kasam as just a humda choice, diluting the whole contribution of Shailendra in one fell swoop. The movie wouldn’t exist but for Shailendra….he poured his heart n soul , ensured the authenticity isn’t meddled with, didnt listen to distributors to change ending, created a template for ‘parallel’ cinema….the very spirit of the movie is Shailendra….i don’t have to repeat he literally gave his life. Rakesh Badal ji’s brilliant program on Virasat has all the details for anyone’s interested.
