    Fun fact Addie: During the MTV movie awards where this film was nominated and promoted, Tom Cruise, came out in full makeup/outfit and performed he even had a surprise dance appearance of JLO.

    • @megafan2000
      @megafan2000 Рік тому +8

      The advertisements leading up to it were a blast too. He did a few in full costume with a few other actors nominated that year as the award show was billed as being "produced by Les Grossman". The one I remember most of course was the one he did with Robert Pattinson.

    Fun Story about Tom Cruise in this movie:
    When this came out me and my friend went to see it and in the middle I said that "holy crap I think that's Tom Cruise!" and he said "No way!" And during the enc credits I reiterated that "dude, I think this is Tom Cruise!" and he remained reluctant. We went to get food afterwards and he bet me a party sized plate of nachos for who actually played that character. No need to say that I won and got my nachos.
    Additionally, when this movie was cast, they pitched this role to Tom Cruise as a joke thinking he would never accept but he did and it was his demand that he'd have that dance number at the end and it was choreographed by him as well.

      I love how they address the obvious ridiculousness of his character through the movie with satire! It is brilliant the way it was done! Ben Stiller is low-key a great Director! The way he did Tropic Thunder and then transitioned into The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is something beautiful to witness!... and not even counting Escape at Dannemora and Severance! Sooner or later i do think that fortunately Ben Stiller does have the chops to become recognized as one of the greatest Actor-turned-Director ever! His level of talent is not a joke by any means!

    Robert Downey Jr. actually got Oscar-nominated for this (Best Supporting Actor). Had the unfortunate luck of running against Heath Ledger for THE DARK KNIGHT (who won that year). It is pretty ironic that Downey Jr. is a possible contender this year once again for OPPENHEIMER, considering that he lost to a Nolan movie performance the last time he was nominated (as a matter of fact, as of this writing, Ledger is the only performance from a Nolan movie to be nominated, let alone win (this will certainly change thanks to OPPENHEIMER)).

    I've seen this film several times so when I read the title of the post I was super-excited. Then, about three seconds into the "Booty Sweat" ad, the entire film came rushing back and hit me like a sledge hammer. I hope Addie's Patreon members will cover her therapy bills. 😉

    Actually, you did pretty well recognizing Tom Cruise halfway through the movie. Some people don’t figure it out until the end credits.
    If you’re interested in more out of the ordinary roles he’s done, check out “Magnolia” or the third ‘Austin Powers’ movie, “Goldmember” (you should really watch all three…)

    You omitted my favorite line😢. "He ain't playing God, he's being judged by him." That line cracks me up everytime i hear it.

    When this came out, there wasn't a lot of R-rated comedies being made. It really hit the spot. Plus, it was Ben Stiller back to doing his crazier comedy style. Like when he had his sketch show on MTV in the 90s, The Ben Stiller Show. With Janeane Garafolo, Andy Dick, and Bob Odenkirk.

    I saw this film in the theater, and needless to say, no one in that audience knew what the hell they were watching! This was probably the most grotesque, hilarious, in your face comedy that really pushed the envelope. Not since the late 70s and early 80s had a comedy film been this offensively hilarious!!

    "I wanna have fat hands, and I'm gonna dance." - Tom Cruise, when Ben Stiller asked him if he'd want to be in the movie.

    McConaughey is quietly my favorite one in this movie, but he certainly gets overshadowed by several of the other outrageous and incredible performances throughout.

    I'm not a huge fan of comedy movies but Tropic Thunder and Talladega Nights will always be the top comedy movies for me. They're just so good.
